Brett Favre's advice to Tony Romo: Sit until you're needed

Listen man, I'm not trying to rain on his parade, but if guys like Montana were replaced, AFTER WINNING 3 SUPER BOWLS. who is Romo? Romo has never ever ever ever won anything of significance here in Dallas, and I mean never. So why are we being so precious with his feelings? I'm sorry folks, I just can't help myself. I thought that the importance of watching football was to win something. Isn't winning the number one thing? And it's been two decades, that's 2 decades. 20 years, not even an NFC championship game.

No one said Dak can win either, but we've all seen what Romo can do and I personally am not impressed. I don't care about all this dynamic plays where people spin out of sacks and throws touch downs, that's one freaking play. It takes consistent QBing and a penchant to limit mistakes to win things other than the regular season. IMO, he's a walking injury waiting to happen, not to mention, he just doesn't have it, never has. It's not me speaking, it's 10 years speaking bro.

If you worked for me as a car salesman, and I you had 10 years to sell a car, how long will you work for me?

Interesting take and difficult to argue...

San Fran pushes Montana out of the town despite him winning 4 Superbowls. The had Young and knew he was a better player.

Favre got the NFC Championship game in 2007, was runner up to MVP that year, and the Packers pushed him out of town to get Rodgers onto the field.

In both cases the up and coming QB came in and won a Superbowl.

If hypocrisy had real life consequences...

...this would be Favre's fate.

do you want to know what Romo has as a consolation prize? A hundred million dollars. This franchise owes him nothing more.
You think Romo would give back every penny of it for a ring?

The key point in this is they had actually won before. Romo hasn't even won anything. The regular season is nothing for Romo, it's the playoffs where he sucks.

I agree with Favre but the only issue is what if Dak never really struggles? Romo might never ever see the field again. He'll want to come back and start whenever he's 100%.

Struggle is in the eye of the beholder. Technically, he struggled against the 49ers in the first quarter. If Dallas faces a scenario like that when Romo is healthy, that's when you bring Romo in.

We're going to have games where we trail, and that allows Dallas to transition to Romo better than just replacing Dak whether he's winning or losing. So I guess I agree with Favre to an extent. Pick your spot to take the ball out of the hot hand at a moment when it's not so hot.

I think it's good advice for the FO to not do what they did last year with Romo. Romo may have been "medically" cleared but he could have used a couple more weeks to get in the groove of things. He rushed back and got re-injured. With Dak tearing up the league the FO has the luxury with each win to make sure they're making a wise decision with Romo. Romo will see the field this season whether anyone likes it or not but he will be completely ready to play before he gets on the field due to Dak winning. Again I said this in another thread. I would love for Romo to come in and do mop up duty on a bad team like Cleveland or Tampa Bay before being placed in a position to win or lose a game. We can see if he's rusty, how his body will respond, how his mind is and all of that stuff without risking momentum.

That actually isn't exactly what happened, both players were offered the starting job, but chose to move on because of tensions created between them and the organization. I wonder if that is what could happen with Tony...

So after 10 years of consistent failures, you still think he can do it huh? What planet are you from, because earthlings know that after 10 years of trying something, all of a sudden you can't take a hit anymore, you can now turn into a Super Bowl champ with the likes of New England, Pittsburgh, and teams like Minnesota on the rise. Okay, gotcha.
Is that the same Pittsburgh that lost 34-3 to Philly or a different Pittsburgh?

Tony will only sit himself if he believes his play is a detriment to the offense, which it very well could be with all the injuries mounting up

But why not just give the guy a chance? I still believe Romo can take this team to the promised land, he deserves a shot

I also think Romo deserves a ring. He doesn't necessarily have to on the field to get one. If Dak is our best chance Romo should just wait until called upon. Its really that simple.

No need to insert him and risk losing him again and losing a game. Thus all the momentum we built up till now would have disappeared.

LMAO if that your analogy of Romo being a car salesman than its pretty hilarious. Romo has always been able to deliver. He has always made the "sale" each and every sunday. However, the dealership always gave the customers a bad car to begin with. Its not the salesman fault the car broke down after the sale. Its the dealership.

Thus your logic is wrong here. Romo carried this team thru bad coaching and bad defenses to the point where he had to take it upon himself to carry the team. No other QB in the NFL has done more with less.

If you don't think Romo is any good just use 2014 as a reference - where we finally got a running game going. He basically should have been the MVP that year. Not Rogers.

So to say Romo haven't done much means that you have a personal agenda - and it has nothing to do with Romo's performance.

Favre was also still productive after leaving the Packers. So was Montana. Its not like they were washed up. They still had miles in them even though they were replaced.

Yeah, the team with The Identical record as us. When was a loss not a loss, whether by 1 or 81
Normally top notch teams - you know the ones you say Romo can't help us beat - don't lose by 31 points to rookie QBs.

Easier said that done.

Maybe Dak never struggles and rides this team right into the Super Bowl.
If that happens, or even if the Cowboys make the NFC Championship, Romo never gets a chance to start unless Dak gets hurt.

And if the above happens, he will leave the game thinking if only he had gotten the chance, the team would have done the same with him.

Romo wants to win a Super Bowl - like Favre did. He's not about to throw away the few remaining chances he has. Dak has time on his side.
Well tony would get a SB ring !! More than one way to get a ring !

If I win the Super Bowl by luck, I'll take it. A loss is a loss, no one cares how it happened.
