Brett Favre's advice to Tony Romo: Sit until you're needed

But Favre feels that Romo should wait until Prescott struggles before getting back in the lineup.

"You have to look at the dynamics right now and they really are hitting on all cylinders," Favre said on his SiriusXM NFL Radio on Tuesday.

"So, this is hypothetically thinking, if you are Tony you say, ‘You know what, as much as I want to play, I don’t want to press the issue. I want to play, but I’m going to let it play out right now and it is probably better if Dak starts struggling and then they bring me in rather than they put me in and then all of a sudden we’re not hitting on all cylinders and everyone’s like, ‘Ah, they should have got rid of Tony, blah, blah.' You know what I mean?

"I’m not saying that you tell [Jason] Garrett or Jerry Jones, ‘Look, I don’t want to play.’ I think, you want to play but, look, I don’t want to mess up the dynamics of the team. If we get to a point where we’re struggling then it is time for me to come in. Now, I know that’s a hard thing to do. … I just think you are better if you wait ‘til you are really needed. And I mean no disrespect whatsoever to Tony.”

Easier said that done.

Maybe Dak never struggles and rides this team right into the Super Bowl.
If that happens, or even if the Cowboys make the NFC Championship, Romo never gets a chance to start unless Dak gets hurt.

And if the above happens, he will leave the game thinking if only he had gotten the chance, the team would have done the same with him.

Romo wants to win a Super Bowl - like Favre did. He's not about to throw away the few remaining chances he has. Dak has time on his side.

Favre suggesting Romo do something he himself would NEVER do. Child, please.

Tony's a better teammate then people give him credit for. If he thinks they should ride with Dak, they will ride with Dak.

I get what Brett is saying but Tony is too much of a competitor to sit. He won't wait one play longer than he has to.

Tony will only sit himself if he believes his play is a detriment to the offense, which it very well could be with all the injuries mounting up

But why not just give the guy a chance? I still believe Romo can take this team to the promised land, he deserves a shot

Am I missing something? When did Tony get the right to decide when he starts?

I do think Brett's advice is pretty good advice for the FO/coaching staff. Don't make a change while this team is doing well!

i dont think this is about Favre vs Romo. Its more, does the team need you. Does it need Romo right now? no. teams needed Favre , regardless what we think or stats or any of that. Right now, and i have stressed this, ride Dak, let him falter, let him learn let him play. In that aspect Favre is right. The team doesnt need him right now. If they were 0-4, Romo would probably be pushed out early and hurt. This way, does Romo need to force anything? no, ride it out. no shame in it.

Really? Because Favre exited stage left and the Packers promptly went on to win a Super Bowl.

So after 10 years of consistent failures, you still think he can do it huh? What planet are you from, because earthlings know that after 10 years of trying something, all of a sudden you can't take a hit anymore, you can now turn into a Super Bowl champ with the likes of New England, Pittsburgh, and teams like Minnesota on the rise. Okay, gotcha.

I think Brett meant well. He's right about one thing--if Dak plays well and Dallas beats GB and then Tony comes in rusty the next game and plays like crap, the public reaction will be worse than nasty. I think we all know that. My take from it was that he was just trying to think of a way to sidestep that scenario.

What he doesn't realize is Tony has lived with that kind of negativity his whole career.

I agree with Favre but the only issue is what if Dak never really struggles? Romo might never ever see the field again. He'll want to come back and start whenever he's 100%.

It's hypocritical to say the least.. Favre was way too egotistical to sit behind Rodgers if it was suggested to him and would be offended if anyone suggested it. I mean, he went to Minnesota just so he could play against GB. He tripping. lol
