Listening to Garrett's press conference, I was glad when a reporter asked him basically why we didn't get Brian Waters who is having such a good season with the Patriots, and probably could have helped us.

Garrett's response was absolute garbage. It really made me feel as though the front office doesn't do enough due diligence around the league. Unless there is a behind the scenes reason for us not getting Waters, it really doesn't make sense.

That said I really hope our guards continue to get better, but this move (or lack thereof) really strikes me as foolish.

Help us out here - what did Garrett say about it?

makes sense! Mr. Basement-Monday Morning coach.

Monday Morning? Are you serious? The day he got cut quite a few of us were clamoring for him to be signed. Weeks went by with nothing, and we eventually signed Derrick Dockery... The Patriots signed Waters.

Dockery instead of Waters? Come on man.

Isn't Dockery younger? That could have been the reason. Waters has one, maybe two years left.

No one could have foreseen Dockery fracturing his leg. That just happens. He played pretty well when he was in there.

We signed Dockery to a one year deal 910k dollars. 750k available in incentives.

Waters signed a two year deal worth 3 million dollars with 2.5 available in incentives.

I'm sure there's quite a bit more to why we didnt sign him then what Garrett said in his presser. It's not like HC's go around giving out in depth details as to why FA's aren't signed.

How do you even know he was interested in coming here?

It doesn't at all. We have the cap space to afford him, and he is a legit starter, not a borderline guy like Dockery who has been bounced around the league.

The difference in money for a pro bowl quality guard... come on man...

As I said unless there was something behind the scenes, this reeks of stupidity.

The guy was a free agent for a few weeks, it would go to reason that if we had offered him a contract similar to what he got in New England that he probably would have taken it, again assuming that there isn't something behind the scenes.

It just sucks to see a great player available in a position of need, and we didn't get him, and the result of not getting him has resulted in struggles where another team has thrived.

Dude it was a dumb question and it got a coach speak answer. Of course they do due diligence, but with the offensive line playing as well as it is who gives a crap about Brian Waters?

Dockery may be younger but he's never been close to Waters in production. Dockery was not even playing last season while Waters was going to his 5th pro bowl.

Here's what Garrett said:

"He's been so good for so long, pro bowl player for a lot of years. And he's some we certainly talked about; we talked about a lot of different guys. He seems like he's settled into a role up there, that's helping their football team. He looks like the same kind of guy that's been playing for a number of years."

Read between the lines. They thought he was done. NE took a chance, and it turns out that he's still playing at a high level.

Oh well, sometimes you guess wrong.

Seems he started to decline at 34 years old.

"Chiefs fans closest to the epicenter knew that the Pro Bowl tag applied to Waters final season in Kansas City seemed based on his reputation more than his play".
" But it's been a strangely silent market for a player who seemed to have such a strong reputation and some ability left in the tank."

Quite a few teams passed on him as well.

If he was available for that period of time, it's likely that many teams weren't interested in him, not for a higher priced, multi-year contract. It could be as simple as Dallas wanted to sign a OL for one year, while Waters wanted multiple years.

Complaining is like holding a wish in one hand and a pile of crap in the other, it serves no purpose other than making one of your hands stink.

Put down the crap and deal with the here and now.

We didn't sign Waters, good. Move on, let it go.

Very very telling here..... Looks as if his performance from last year really turned teams off.

Perhaps Waters is waiting for his chance with the right team. He's a celebrated vet, after all, and doesn't need to go to the first team with a hole in their line. He's been around the game enough to know that multiple teams will experience injuries and/or will not like what they see after some weeks of training camp. So maybe the plan is for Waters to wait and strike later on. Or maybe his phone just isn't ringing, with the Chiefs move representing what scouts opinions are saying around the NFL.

Most likely it's the former and the word out of Dallas is that they're "kicking the tires" on Waters, good news for the Texas product as it would provide a homecoming of sorts at the end of a career. Richie Whitt of the Dallas Observer writes, "At 34, he's still got a little tread on the tire and I hear he has a desire to finish his career close to home in Dallas. The Cowboys haven't made him a contract offer, but a source last night told me his name comes up daily in conversations."

What's garbage about that?

It is a non answer, leading to the perception you never really thought about the guy so you gave a vague non answer to cover your arse.
