I hear the Seahawks may cut that WR who made that crushing tackle on special teams last night (Dockette - spelling?) Can we make him a free safety and our special teams gunner ace please.

Lee: Gone

Scandrick: Gone for 4 games

Holloman: Career over

Demarcus Lawrence: Gone for maybe half the season

Spencer: Who knows when he'll be back at full strength

Carter: Not living up to expectations

Matt Johnson: lol

Okoye: Injured

This is a list of compromised or missing players. Not an argument that other teams aren't looking to bolster starting lineups at weak spots, too. They are. This is parity in the NFL. We're not as unique as we like to think we are.

It's more like duh, of course Dallas is Exhausting All avenues to upgrade weaknesses, All teams that Want to win do..

Jerry is at least willing to throw some $$$Millionaire$$$ Pocket Change at the problems... (Plural)

People seem to think that because Broaddus works for the Cowboys media dept. that he checks with Jerry, Garrett, Stephen and McClay on everything that he says.

I'm fairly certain that a very high percentage of what he says is just his opinion.

This is true. I'm just simply stating why this team is looking for starters for certain positions while other teams are looking for depth.

That's 5 potential starters that are gone for a minimum of 4 games. Furthermore, there are starters from last season (Heath, Hayden) who aren't even guaranteed to be on the final, opening-day roster.

What positions do you think they are looking for starters?

The only desperate need is for a rush end. You lose Lawrence and you lose some of your depth there and maybe the starter you were looking for.

You lose Lee and you lose depth at LB. Now your, at present, next best LB in Durant is playing out of position besides losing depth. You lose Holloman and you lose what was probably a starting nickel LB which is over 50% of defensive snaps.

I'm with you in regards to the giant hole the front office and scouting department put us in over the years and we're still paying for it. But you can't cry we have no OL then bemoan the lack of high defensive picks esp the DL. Our squandering of draft picks and lack of cap us put us in a talent deficit.

We're trying to crawl out of a deep hole and all these injuries on defense isn't helping.

I don't really see them looking for starters. A replacement for Lawrence would likely be a Nickel pass rusher.

They might look at some coverage LBs that could end up as pseudo-starters in the Nickel defense.

Does 'every team' have holes everywhere on their entire defense?

This thing is shaping up to break it's own records for futility.

Let's not minimize this train wreck in the service of fandom.

I'm not blind. Why do some of you insist on putting some of us in a cubby hole of blind homers defending the club at all costs? When you do that you see everything we say thru that prism.

I'm critical of the club and have been for years. You must just ignore that part of my postings.

Back off the ledge and let's see what we have over the next few weeks. Some of these injured and/or absent players will contribute. We will likely add some more players as we continue to churn.

But you're right to be concerned. We have some problems to address.

That's my assessment although they can add depth anywhere on the defense IMO. Maybe even a starter or two in the SPs. Rush end, coverage LB, and #4/5 CB can be improved right now.

Now that's thinking outside he box! :) Hey, if he's better than #4-6 WR then pick him up and he can play STs as well. Safety....well nothing is impossible....mostly. :)

Have you read Bob Sturm's in-depth analysis on the Cowboys' blitzing futility last year?

If not, you should check it out.

Informative and sobering.

Last year shouldn't be ignored but it is not entirely predictive this year. The effectiveness of blitzing is part talent of the blitzer and even more so pressure from the front four.

It the Pro-Garret built in excuse. We have all this talent if they can get healthy.

I would like to think people are done with that excuse. Especially after this whole Matt Johnson and Sean Lee nonsense. I'm injured out lol. I don't even want a guy who has headaches on this team.

True, every team does "dumpster dive".

The difference; they're dumpster diving for depth while we're dumpster diving for starters.

Well I do agree with that so what's the solution? Don't dumpster dive at all? You have injuries here and you have guys you let walk in free agency. There's too much turnover from last year to just all of a sudden be able to fix a already poorly constructed defense.

How exactly do you think Denver acquired Manning?

Osmosis?

Might be that neck injury he had lol.

Like that idea, switch him to FS while we're at it. Seahawks, Patroits and Panthers should be the teams we are studying for any D cuts. Lots of talent on those teams especially at our need positions.

There definitely is a need for a rush end, but I don't feel as if that's the only area of concern when it comes to our starting defense. When our opening day LBs look something like this: Hitchens, McClain, Durant; I would like to think that they would be searching for someone to come in and help this team and possible start. One guy is a 4th round pick with a 7th round grade and another has retired twice and has questionable work ethic.

I agree, we can't have our cake and eat it too. To be fair, I never complained about the Zach Martin/Travis Frederick picks. I thought that they were good choices. However, we have very little to show thus far for bringing in guys like Carr, Melton (verdict is obviously still out) giving up picks for Lawrence and Claiborne, etc. Which is where your point about the front office comes into consideration.

Simply, one wants a tuna that tastes good...not good taste.

I don't know what we have on the DL. There are just too many unanswered questions. Brent, Spencer, Melton, and McClain are out there. Lawrence is on the horizon still and unanswered as well.

I don't see Hitchens starting at first but that is possible. Carter is a question mark. Ro is one. Claiborne. OScan is out 4 weeks. How are the fill ins and depth going to play. I'm not too worried about safety but its still a concern. All the DBs are somewhat at the mercy of the front seven.

We have three weeks for some of this to start to focus. Still too fuzzy to see well.

I'm wondering if Brandon Graham gets cut in Philly...

He played pretty well on Thursday and the local talk is he'll probably make the roster now.

I'm more interested in Vinny Curry. But he probably makes it too.

Its always fun to look for an opening day pass rusher on the waiver wire in late August.
