Last year shouldn't be ignored but it is not entirely predictive this year. The effectiveness of blitzing is part talent of the blitzer and even more so pressure from the front four.

I do wonder if Marinelli is going to deviate from his past defensive scheme. He's said that they plan to play a lot of man-coverage which would be a change. They also seem intrigued with Wilber at SLB and as Nickel DE. Having an SLB with DE pass rushing skills would make it easy to run some hybrid looks.

It seems that in the Marinelli/Kiffin type defense, they normally have the RDE rushing either outside or crashing down inside with minimal regards for run contain. It they had the RDE hold back and had the SLB up on the line next to the LDE and the SLB rushed, it would be somewhat of a 3-4 look. They've also had Bruce Carter practice in pass rushing drills starting at about the same time that he started practicing at SLB.

They seem to be playing a lot of single-high safety which indicates that they are not in the Tampa-2 alignment on those plays.

I'm not blind. Why do some of you insist on putting some of us in a cubby hole of blind homers defending the club at all costs? When you do that you see everything we say thru that prism.

I'm critical of the club and have been for years. You must just ignore that part of my postings.

Back off the ledge and let's see what we have over the next few weeks. Some of these injured and/or absent players will contribute. We will likely add some more players as we continue to churn.

But you're right to be concerned. We have some problems to address.

On that last part, we agree. Let's go from there. I'll be here regardless, good or bad.

It's the best direct evidence we have, even if the truth hurts.

I'm thinking of the San D game where the inside handoff/ crossbuck to Woodhead gutted our run defense several times, and then also the 2nd Philly game with basically the same play with McCoy to the other side.

Interesting. I want to see what we have in our DL. If they can get pressure then the blitz will be so much more effective. I don't like having to blitz just to get decent pressure.

I don't know how much generic Tampa 2 is played by anyone. I imagine it is some but I don't know. I have no idea what will be our base defense.

They did go this in the Miami game. I remember them doing it at least twice. Later in the game the RDE didn't rush and LB Will Smith rushed from the other side. They did it earlier in the game also, but I don't remember who the rusher was on that one.

There was a play where the LB tapped the RDE on the butt and the RDE then dropped back in coverage.

The SD game last year or the SD preseason game?

more the regular season game. Its a case of no penetration by DLine, where the offense hands the ball off on the right side of the center and Woodhead was able to run all the way to the left side with the OT just taking D.Ware where he wanted to go--crash down, but stay on the los. Needed Hatcher to do what 3 tech is supposed to do--penetrate.

If Bowers is going to be cut I'd just rather see them make a trade with Tampa for him. They could use Oline help and that seems to be our strong point. Give them Parnell & a 7th for him

Bowers has a degenerative knee - I would look elsewhere
