Broaddus: D-Line Stands Out At Rookie Minicamp

Sorry, in this case, but everything I've ever read from Broaddus has been completely wrong.

As Tyron Smith declared for the 2011 draft, Broaddus predicted that he would be a good player in this league.

That’s just one thing he was right about.

Maybe you need to expand your reading!

You mean except for how the way the draft went and what the team thought about certain players?

He was dead on for player evaluations and who the team had their eye on. He told everyone not to expect us to sign Jernigen and that they liked Ealy... Stephen even verified this. He said on his minicamp vid to watch out for their new undrafted corner (Panton?) and then Kiffen says he reminds him of a young Ronde Barber... So yeah I guess completely wrong fits. o_O

Shorts or no shorts and pads or no pads, I'd rather be hearing positive things coming from onlookers than the opposite. There's a long way to go before the reviews bear something more substantial to go on, so no need for pessimism to rule the day as far as I can see. Let's keep some measure of hope alive before assuming nothing will change. I'm pleased with this draft until such time as they prove they can't or won't get it done. Considering the extent of our needs in the offseason, many were addressed, IMHO. How well they were or weren't is yet to be determined.

So because he said that a player, that was universally understood, was going to be good makes him right?

I just think he blows more smoke than fact.

Example?

These so called Cowboys fans obviously want to hear bad news about the rookies, maybe that they look weak or they are getting hurt...that way they can post their usual I told you so, I hate Jerry, Romo's fault post.

yes it's a strange brew

My thing is this, even in shorts there are things you can look for. Technique, quickness ....

Exactly, and also there is a lot that goes on that we don't see, what the media does not see. Meetings and film review. Things that aren't on media camera's.
Players attitudes while being coached, can they be coached. How well they pick up on things. A lot of moving parts that we think we know but we really don't know.

It isn't my target to invite a comparison, but I specifically remember when DWare came in his first camp, the comments were "athletically he is a freak, but he must improve his technique and learn some moves." He wasn't great with his hands and relied a bit too much on his inside spin or bull (can't remember which).

It doesn’t look like you’ve been on this board too long, so I suggest you good back to before the 2011 draft and look at the arguments on this board (and others) about whether he would be good or not and whether w should take him.

There was nothing universal about it.

And while he gets more inside information than the regular hacks, he sometimes has to make an educated guess just like everyone else (although with more education than many who post there).

I agree you can't tell much with players not in pad but that is not to say coaches do not see anything at all. Marinelli talked about looking at the guys to see how they moved, reacted and the use of different techiques. There is enough there for them to see things they feel players need to work on and improve on heading to training camp. I know some just do not want to hear any positives and given how things have gone it is understandable. For me it starts to confirm my view that we have some young talent that the coaches just may be able to develope into good ball players. Long way to go but I'm encouraged

I would say that Broaddus is about as accurate as a coin flip.

He is accurate in reporting what the team has told him but is highly inaccurate in his own opinions. Unfortunately, it's difficult to discern which is which until after the fact.

It did seem obvious when he said the team liked Lawrence that he was correct because his own assessment of Lawrence was just so-so.

Well listening to the draft show before the draft (they first covered the DL in Feb.) that wasn't the impression I got from Broaddus about Lawrence.

As for being inaccurate in his own opinions, that still puts him way above most posters on this board.
