People are so quick to forget that Murray played well behind one of if not the worst offensive line in football his first two years

True, but let's not forget we were also a completely pass happy offense in those years. I'm sure opposing safeties were more shocked than anything when he got the ball, much less stacking the box. He probably got 2 YPC just on general surprise.

No, they feared the run when he played

Yeah, no. Romo had 648 pass attempts in 2012 vs. 435 last year. Anybody "fearing the run" is doing it wrong.

Look, I liked Murray as much as the next guy, and I think without a doubt we are a lesser team without him this year. I don't think it was ALL the Oline last, nor am I particularly happy with the incumbent replacements.

But this guy is not an elite RB. I would never place him in the same category as Emmitt or AP or LT, etc. I'm sorry he's not here (although not at that pricetag), but his performance in his early years was on limited carries and change of pace, and his later years behind a dominant OL. Period.

Just because Romo through more doesn't mean teams didnt fear the run. Teams defended the run with Murray in the game. Its not like they were into Nickle and dime sets on running downs. Murrays presense was noticable in the passing game VS when Felix Jones had to start because teams had to respect the run, even with an incredibly poor line.

Point is, Murray has proven very capable of running behind a poor.

Short yardage back. I don't see him having a huge impact over what we have already. Insurance once Mcfadden or Randle go down. I like it a lot more than paying murray 8mil per.

Brian is always off. That is why he is not a scout for this organization anymore. Thank god, I am sure he worked the Campo years. This guy is much more than a short yardage thumper. See for yourself.

Did you watch Randle last year? He didn't go down all that easily.

As far as Broadus' comments, I'm not sure what he means by saying Michael looking like he runs on rails is the opposite to McFadden. That's exactly what I see with Darren.
Luckily we didn't trade for him to be our designated rapper...
Hey should definitely keep his day job.

Don't know if anyone already said this, but as I listen to Garrett talk in light of everything else that's been said, struck me that it sounds a lot like this guy is what they were originally thinking that Ryan Williams would be.

I think that is a fair assessment. I think Garrett is tired of answering stupid media questions. I got the impression Garrett has been working around the clock.

I like our RB corps now versus paying murray big money.

And murray isn't as much of a "playmaker" as he is a product of the oline. He got what was blocked. So will the guys we have now, for much less $$.

I think Murray was a very good, smart and strong back for us. However, "playmaker"is not the first description that comes to mind.

No way. This guy has crazy burst. Wait till you see how quick this guy hits the hole. Put it this way, if he was running the ball in Green Bay Peppers would never had gotten a hand on him.

I hope your right. Murray was slow hitting the line and his vision at times was not there.

You would see many opposing DLinemen faking injuries before they play us.

how were they going to do it sooner? Seattle wasnt getting rid of him till jackson signed like a day ago

You dont just trade a pick for a guy if you dont feel like youre upgrading that position 3 days before the season starts. If we're comfortable doing it now, then they should have done this before. If Seattle was willing to sign a 34 year old RB two days ago and part with Michael, then they probably werent that high on Michael as it was and essentially this could have been done a month ago.

IRVING, Texas
– The speculation surrounding the Cowboys’ running back committee was already at a fever pitch, so it’s understandable that the addition of Christine Michael would shine the spotlight even brighter.

It’s also understandable that, with his team beginning preparations for its season opener, Cowboys coach Jason Garrett was quick to pump the brakes on what Michael’s presence means going forward.

“We just wanted to make our team better by adding a guy like that and getting him into our structure and trying to teach him how we want to play and see if he can help our team,” Garrett said on Monday. “You try to do that at the running back position, but you really try to do it throughout your team.”...

Scouting Report: Evaluating The Game Tape Of New RB Christine Michael
Sunday, September 06, 2015 4:46 PM CDT
broaddus-twitter-small.jpg

By Bryan Broaddus
Football Analyst/Scout @BryanBroaddus

Name: Christine Michael
Position: RB
College: Texas A&M
Height: 5-10
Weight: 220
Draft: 62nd overall by Seattle, 2013

Games Studied: 2015 preseason vs. DEN, KC, SD, OAK; 2014 regular season vs. NYG, PHI, ARZ

Report: Michael is a square-built player that is thick in both the upper and lower body. He shows an initial burst to and through the hole, he but doesn’t have long range speed. He was much better in the preseason turning the corner with speed than he was last year.

He’s a physical finisher with the ball in his hands -- more likely to run over you than avoid with moves. Will lower his shoulder or throw a stiff arm in a tackler’s face to buy separation. Always trying to extend the play and fight for extra yards. Runs with lower body power.

In 2014 he was put in against the Eagles to kill the last two minutes of the game, and, against an eight-man box, he was able to grind out a first down. He runs low to the ground and keeps his legs moving.

If this evaluation is accurate, Dallas has just traded for the best RB on their rooster. Dunbar is s waste of roster space . DMac can not stay healthy and Randle is an immature role player.
