Broaddus: Not sounding positive on Tapper

On the surface, it seems Broaddus may suspect Tapper's back issues are significantly more severe than what the team has reported at this time. Other than that, it's anyone guess. Can't help but wonder if he suspects Tapper's back issue is an exaggerated claim by Tapper to avoid practice when he's physically able to do so but not mentally disposed to try. If so, it's quite understandable why he might be reluctant to claim as much. (Understand that I'm not necessarily saying it's so, but the thought haunts me . . .)
Projecting what will happen is not a strong suit for Broaddus.

I will say that he has done a decent job on the radio broadcast with Brad Sham for the preseason games. He's better than Babe.

Back injuries are tricky at the best of times, but it's the worst for lineman, who are constantly up and down in their stance. Carrying the large amount of weight that they do doesn't help either.

I don't believe anybody has any idea how long he will be out, other than possibly the trainers. He could be practicing tomorrow or he could be out another month. Or anything in between.

It's not like a broken bone that you can pretty accurately predict when it will be healed.

That sounds fair to say -- like all of us, Broaddus has his strengths and weaknesses. I'm hoping Tapper turns out well for the team. Trying to say what he is at this point in time might well be an exercise in futility. I think Tapper's samplings of activity and his physical durability have likely been too scarce to make an accurate evaluation of this early. What he is or isn't is yet to be determined.

What Broaddus is or isn't good at is an interesting thing to observe.

He can look at a player on a particular play and generally do a decent job of analyzing what that player did or didn't do; however, when it comes to the big picture, even just the big picture of 1 complete game or 1 complete practice, things get muddled up for him. On the radio broadcast of the game, he can just talk about what a player did at that moment which is more interesting than hearing Babe tell war stories or other things about himself.

Broaddus said today on the Break that he has no inside information about the injury but could not understand why Tapper was not back practicing at this point.

He answered his own question to be honest, Tapper apparently has a back strain and they may be exercising caution so it does not linger into the season.

This is a pretty good description of Broaddus. It's like the deductive part of his brain just doesn't work. But he does do a nice job with the specifics of what players do at each position.

I always think it would be really irritating to do a broadcast with him. Because he gives you good detail and then turns around and draws the wrong conclusions from it. Or he'll listen to what somebody says, and then completely misinterpret their argument for them and spit it back at them as if it's what they actually said. And they just sit there with this 'what are you talking about' look on their faces as he gets louder and overrules them. In real life, the temptation to slam him in those situations would be overwhelming for me. And then I'd look like a jerk for overreacting to it.

Lol. He needs to come with his own disclaimer.

Broaddus said that Kelvin Benjamin couldn't play.

We saw his rookie season.
