Ok this is fun to look at, all 3 on this show, said Watson was better than Mahomes, and that Watson was a definite "Winner".
Dallas had pick 28, KC had pick 27.
KC moves up to 10 and takes Mahomes.
Dallas stays at 28 and takes Taco !!!! lol ( they didnt need a qb especially Mahomes, because they had a great QB in Dak ! lol again)
I think had Dallas moved up for a qb , they would have taken Watson.

If anyone knows, I would like to know if Dallas had Mahomes on their board, and where on their board.
Chicago took trubisky lol who busted bigtime, houston took watson at 12, I doubt they were going to take mahomes if he was there.

If KC moved up from 27, Dallas could have done same from 28 to get mahomes.
KC gave up a 3rd in 2017 and a 1 in 2018 which would be a low 1st round pick to buffalo for the # 10 pick.

So KC saw something in Mahomes that no other team did, none of the "experts" did either, Kiper said Mahomes would be a bust.
Now mahomes is the new goat, and Jerry is still saying Dak can win in playoffs and win a SB.
Meanwhile Mahomes has won 2 SB's in a row and could possibly win his 3rd in a row this year.

Dak is still looking for 2 playoff wins in a row ! lol

Which just goes to show, just because your current qb is good, dont ignore the qb's in the draft each year , or you will miss a guy like mahomes.
Same for other positions too.
Had Dallas been smart enough to grab mahomes, and know he could be what he became, they could have traded Dak for premium picks at that time,
and actually upgraded future picks, so that they get mahomes @ 10 for nothing!.

here Broaddus and other 2 bozos show love for watson lol, and smh Mahomes !

I'm sorry but that's a terrible perspective on how to look at that!!!

we just had a guy who was rookie of the year and let me tell you this like you said even Chicago probably wouldn't have taken mahomes ..

in hindsight nobody knew if either of those Qbacks you're discussing above were going to turn out to be anything.. why would you waste a first round pick and picks to move up when you're rookie of the year just won 13 games and played well in the playoffs...

he's had a great NFL career and please don't say Watson is a better prospect then my home because we all know my home is the best quarterback in the league he's elite and Watson's not better then Prescott they're about equal all said and done but at least we have the one not getting in trouble off the field and has like a terrible pass and has been traded from his team....

So I wholeheartedly disagree with that premise yeah it's nice to be sitting here in hindsight talking about Patrick mahomes paired with Andy Reed like Tom Brady was paired with Bill Belichick that's just how their careers went nobody predicted either would be great so there's no way to just go hey we better move up and waste capital when we already have a starter just in case there might be a generational guy which by the way let me explain my anti view to your point I eat my counterpoint 95 quarterbacks have been drafted since 2016 and only one of them have won a Super Bowl and that would be Patrick mahomes which nobody knew was gonna be like this you never can read the future you just hope in this league that the quarterback you picked is not gonna turn out to be Mitchell trubisky... So no that would have been a dumb move only in hindsight if we had like a time machine to go back we would take Patrick mahomes but with him and Jason Garrett you think they're gonna have the same career probably not so it's moot to have these discussions...

Again 95 quarterbacks have been drafted since 2016 and only one of them has won a Super Bowl so we do have a quarterback like deshaun Watson and we didn't have to trade up to get him we got him in the fourth round I'm sorry if you think he's better I say he's not both on and off the field he is not better than Prescott maybe on the field they might be very close and equal but I'll take Prescott career all day every day over Watson nobody saw mahomes coming again moot point just keep drafting guys until you find the next generational one when you already have a great quarterback there's 16 teams in the league that wish they had a Prescott that have been drafting and drafting and drafting and could not find one how do you think Russell Wilson Peyton Manning deshaun Watson and these guys end up getting compensation and moving to a team because they tried drafting and it didn't work...

Shows what a crapshoot drafting a QB is. Funny that Buffalo gave KC the opportunity to draft Mahomes. Man, did that come back to haunt them. Lol Had they taken Mahomes they could be where the Chiefs are.

Kiper said Mahomes would be a bust.
I watched most of his games in college. I don't see how anyone could not see how his game translated to the NFL.

When the Chiefs traded up I told the family they are getting Mahomes and sure enough it happened.

Living in the heart of Chiefs territory has been pretty rough and I don't think it's going to get easier any time soon.

Delusional to automatically think if we had moved up and got Mahomes that we would automatically have won 2 SB's, just because he won 2 SB's in KC.

What a stupid post
Agree....it read pretty generic.

Mahomes as KC QB___4 SB appearances, 3 victories.

2016 - Prescott wins NFL Rookie of the Year, with a performance that overall still ranks as his best season in his career before 2023 (and probably top-five for a 1st-year QB in league history).
His 1st year achievement made 10-year starter Romo expendable.
Picking a quarterback AT ALL was way down the list for the Cowboys going into the 2017 draft ____very much less the 1st round.
(Cowboys did sign Cooper Rush as an UDFA that year.)

One had just won a National Championship beating Alabama by going 36-56 420 yards 3 TDs 0 Ints, the other played for Texas Tech. It's sort of hard to think Mahomes would be >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Watson.

I agree that Cowboys would have taken Watson.

Sadly, Mahomes dad said he wanted to be a Cowboy, but knew he probably wouldn't due to Dak being here.

DD, Mahomes is very good. Those of us who follow the Big 12 college football knew how good he was for Texas Tech. Dumb Longhorns passed him up when Mahomes wanted to be a Longhorn coming out of high school. Remember, Mahomes has been lucky to be surrounded by very good players and some of the best coaches in the NFL, so that certainly has helped him. Can't say the exact same for Dak. If Mahomes was here the last few years with an oft-injured and getting old Oline, only 1 legit WR in CeeDee, no run game, a defense which continues to struggle to stop the run and these coaches? Mahomes would definitely struggle. My point is Mahomes is very good but he's also been surrounded by a very well built team and coaches.

Also while Watson was never going to be what Mahomes is, a lot of people were high on him in Houston for a few years until he turned out to be a serial sexual assaulter or whatever he did.

NO one thought Mahomes was going to be anywhere near as great as he has turned out.

NO ONE in any position I think in the NFL at least

IF so, he would not have lasted until 10
It amazing how things work out with great coaching and a GM that knows how to build a team.

We can all agree Mahomes is a generational talent, the type of player that only comes around once every ten years or more. Just special all-around.

And he did not win consistently at Texas Tech. And people still think coaching and a supporting cast does not matter.

Even last year was a statistical down year for Mahomes because his receivers were dropping passes all over the place.

the draft is not an absolute. The entire thig is a crapshoot. You're taking a handful of darts, and throwing them at your teams draft board, hoping to get a few near the bullseye. Some will be great, some just ok, then some will be, total misses. QB might be THE hardest position in football to get right. Its just all educated dart throwing contests. QB has always been about choosing your flavor. YES, teams miss on gems all the time. Mahomes are very hard to find. SUPER RARE to find a college QB that can translate his game to the next level like Mahomes. I mean, who knew? I doubt the Chiefs thought he would be THIS GOOD.

But...that didn't happen...hence 2016 is the second-best season overall for Prescott thus far in his career.
For example - look back to that 2020 season___Prescott threw 4 INTs in the first 5 games before his season was cut short due to that gruesome looking injury.
In 16 games as a rookie, Prescott had 4 interceptions TOTAL.
Overall still ranks first for his career, along with the interception percentage ___0.9%.
Dak also averaged over pass 44 attempts per game in his shortened 2020 season so of course the interceptions were high based on volume of attempts.

Also as a rookie in 2016 a lot was working in Dak's favor: nobody had any film on him, the Cowboys were running the ball extremely well with prime rookie Zeke, and he was able to convert a lot of safe; high-percentage throws.

As defenses figured Dak out he had to adjust and develop his game; which explains the 2017-18 drop off. Since then, at least statistically, Dak has been a top 5-8 range passer. Which is pretty remarkable still considering where he was drafted and what the initial expectations were of him (though I know this means nothing today).

We can't even get Jerry to draft Qb higher than the 4th round on the last 20 years......
