Ok, well most of the league got it wrong in Mahomes, too.

Romo wasn't even drafted, but he outperformed every QB who was that year in his career.

It's a tough position to evaluate.

I have always felt that TD to INT ratio was one of the key features that measured a QB. That and YPA
Understandable.

Funny how @Motorola brought up Dak's INTs to try to use that against him. Meanwhile, Mahomes has thrown 63 total INTs while Dak has thrown 74 after playing for 2 full years longer.

We should have been looking at replacing Aikman about 99 or so, and the best Jethro could come up with was over drafting Quincy
and since then Dak; and Dak was third choice after two others that bombed badly

Since Aikman it has been 35 years that we used a first. No NFL team has gone that long without doing that; not by far.
I'd be just fine with a 2nd......they did that with Quincy Carter who should have been a 4th and Jerry's been gun shy ever since.

And? Dak still has the lowest total INTs by far in Cowboys history for a Cowboys franchise QB. Look up Troy, Roger and Romo's career INT totals in almost the same amount of years played.
So we should be on the same page regarding Prescott's remarkable ROOKIE YEAR regarding interceptions -- along with his low career INT total to date.
Capisce?

the draft is not an absolute. The entire thig is a crapshoot. You're taking a handful of darts, and throwing them at your teams draft board, hoping to get a few near the bullseye. Some will be great, some just ok, then some will be, total misses. QB might be THE hardest position in football to get right. Its just all educated dart throwing contests. QB has always been about choosing your flavor. YES, teams miss on gems all the time. Mahomes are very hard to find. SUPER RARE to find a college QB that can translate his game to the next level like Mahomes. I mean, who knew? I doubt the Chiefs thought he would be THIS GOOD.
true , but KC saw something special, because they moved up from 27 to 10 to get him!
You dont do that for a project, or a maybe he is ok.
They had a good qb at the time, who led them to the playoffs previous year.

They saw more in mahomes than anyone else , question is why?

Mahomes was a Texas product, so cowboys should have known about him and had probably evaluated him.
Of course they evaluated Taco too lol.

Which is strange as he likes shiny toys. Sadly Tony and Dak convinced him you did not need to spend a lot of draft capital on QB

Everything I have heard is that Reid saw Mahomes and just fixated on him.

He used to.......now he loves over the hill cheap veterans and project/ injured/ previously failed players that need developed, rehabbed or careers salvaged.

There's a reason he's been a baller executive in the NFL for almost half a century.

with int's, dont you look at int/td ratio?
Also how many passes thrown?
And then each int is different, where on the field did it happen, and did it give up points?
How many were pick 6's?

In 2016 dak didnt throw many passes, and struggled to get 200 yds per game. The run game is what won a bunch of those games.

I just find it odd that mahomes is so good and his team is winning multible SB's, and yet no one could see his potential in 2017.
I think therefore that teams, scouts, and experts are mostly wrong about players most of the time, and that is why so many busts each year.

Also just because a team has a good qb, it is stupid then to stop looking at qb's in the draft each year.

I did quite the opposite, America's Cowboy.
DandyDon52 created the thread on a revisionist, hypothetical premise that the Cowboys should have been looking at drafting Mahomes in the 2017 draft.
My response was that after the phenomenal rookie season Prescott had as the starting QB, the Cowboys were in no way even thinking about picking a QB in that draft -- which they didn't.
Romo read the writing on the wall and retired, Cowboys then signed Rush as an UDFA to compete with to Kellen Moore as QB2.
That's how you should have interpet my response to DD52.
No team -- the Cowboys, or the 30 other NFL front offices - were looking at drafting Mahomes in the first round - much less moving up to pick him - except the Chiefs.
End of story.

No one saw Tom Brady's potential either...with every team passed on him for FIVE ROUNDS - including the Patriots.

Ok this is fun to look at, all 3 on this show, said Watson was better than Mahomes, and that Watson was a definite "Winner".
Dallas had pick 28, KC had pick 27.
KC moves up to 10 and takes Mahomes.
Dallas stays at 28 and takes Taco !!!! lol ( they didnt need a qb especially Mahomes, because they had a great QB in Dak ! lol again)
I think had Dallas moved up for a qb , they would have taken Watson.

If anyone knows, I would like to know if Dallas had Mahomes on their board, and where on their board.
Chicago took trubisky lol who busted bigtime, houston took watson at 12, I doubt they were going to take mahomes if he was there.

If KC moved up from 27, Dallas could have done same from 28 to get mahomes.
KC gave up a 3rd in 2017 and a 1 in 2018 which would be a low 1st round pick to buffalo for the # 10 pick.

So KC saw something in Mahomes that no other team did, none of the "experts" did either, Kiper said Mahomes would be a bust.
Now mahomes is the new goat, and Jerry is still saying Dak can win in playoffs and win a SB.
Meanwhile Mahomes has won 2 SB's in a row and could possibly win his 3rd in a row this year.

Dak is still looking for 2 playoff wins in a row ! lol

Which just goes to show, just because your current qb is good, dont ignore the qb's in the draft each year , or you will miss a guy like mahomes.
Same for other positions too.
Had Dallas been smart enough to grab mahomes, and know he could be what he became, they could have traded Dak for premium picks at that time,
and actually upgraded future picks, so that they get mahomes @ 10 for nothing!.

here Broaddus and other 2 bozos show love for watson lol, and smh Mahomes !

Hindsight 20/20

There were lots of questions on mahomes and system he played in. He was not slated as a top 10 by many. However Andy Reid and company saw something the other 31 teams didn't.

There quite a few pundits on this board swearing on several other QBs and called mahomes going g to be a bust.

So pundits, please find the next Mahomes.
