And vice versa. Joe Gibbs won three Super Bowls with three different QBs with three completely different play styles. Troy Aikman was never really great after Norv left. Steve Young was dumped in Tampa (was that Coslett?) then became a hall of famer after working with Bill Walsh. There are numerous examples of the right pairing needed to be made for both coach and QB to succeed. The truly great coaches figure out how to get the best out of their guys and lot of potentially great QBs have been hamstrung by idiot coaches. But recall Reid had to clean up the Todd Haley/Romeo Crennel mess when he got to KC. So it was not JUST about the QB.. but then it never truly is. And "fail" might be overstating what happened in Philly.. They were 11-5 McNabb's last year 2009 and 10-6 in Vick's first year 2010. Those final two years 8-8 and 4-12 were probably as much about age and injuries as anything else. That and guys just needed a different voice. It happens.. and nobody's to blame for it.
Joe Gibbs was one exception but those QBs played exceptional during those SB runs. Joe Theismann won MVP one season, he was an excellent QB. Not going to get into a lengthy debate over this. Look at Belichick before and after Brady.

As I pointed out to the other poster Reid was 1-4 in the playoffs with Alex Smith. Any HC will succeed with an all-time great QB. Look at Belichick’s head coaching career before and after Brady.
So why didn't the Saints and Payton win more than one championship with Brees? Why didn't McCarthy win more than one with Rodgers? Why didn't Holmgren win more than one with Favre? Why didn't Shula win any with Marino? Levy with Kelly? How many coaches failed to get it done with Warren Moon? Sorry but having an all time great QB guarantees you nothing. It takes it all coming together as a team for you to reach the promised land .. and there is no guarantee that's going to happen even while the QB is playing lights out. No amount of putting it all on the QB is ever going to change the fact that this is a team game and you need 40+ guys playing well at the right time to win. Yes the QB is the most important one of the 40... but he's far from the only one.

Aikman won another SB after Norv left. His numbers never changed until later in his career when the team was in decline.

Because they didn’t have good enough teams. Both QBs were carrying their teams. Look at the numbers both QBs were putting up. Everything was put on them. Marino never won a championship because everything revolved around him. He ended up with a losing playoff record.

There would be no Brady at all if the Patriots don’t draft him.

All those coaches had success. Everyone of them had a ring except for Levy and the coaches that had Moon. They all won a lot of games. Not winning a championship doesn’t mean a head coach wasn’t successful.

Sorry this simply is not true.

In 1993, Troy's final season with Norv he completed 69.1% of his passes 15 TDs and 6INTs while compiling a 99.0 passer rating.
In 1994, Troy's first season with Zampese he completed 64.5% of his passes 13 TDs and 12 INTs while compiling a an 84.9 passer rating.

I don't know how anyone could look at that and say there weas "no change."

Troy was never as good after Norv. Even as the team was winning the Super Bowl in its second year with Zampese his numbers were not as good as '93. Despite having the league's leading rusher, a 111 catch 1600 yard receiver, a pro bowl tight end and 4 pro bowl linemen, Troy's '95 numbers were not as good as '93. And we know his numbers in '96 and '97 were terrible.

Coaching matters. It really does.

The discussion was about head coaches and QBs and now you want to argue about QBs and their OC’s? Appears you want to go all day on this. Not wasting my time with it.

My apologies my main point has always been about the voice in the QB's ear molding him into the best version of himself. In many cases, in fact I would say most cases, that voice is not the head coach. We have apparently been arguing about different things.

Also while Watson was never going to be what Mahomes is, a lot of people were high on him in Houston for a few years until he turned out to be a serial sexual assaulter or whatever he did.
Agreed. Watson was definitely not a miss, his rookie contract alone (before his legal issues) he was 4x NFL top 100 and 3x pro bowl. It's not like they took Ryan leaf 2.0 over mahomes.

Ok this is fun to look at, all 3 on this show, said Watson was better than Mahomes, and that Watson was a definite "Winner".
Dallas had pick 28, KC had pick 27.
KC moves up to 10 and takes Mahomes.
Dallas stays at 28 and takes Taco !!!! lol ( they didnt need a qb especially Mahomes, because they had a great QB in Dak ! lol again)
I think had Dallas moved up for a qb , they would have taken Watson.

If anyone knows, I would like to know if Dallas had Mahomes on their board, and where on their board.
Chicago took trubisky lol who busted bigtime, houston took watson at 12, I doubt they were going to take mahomes if he was there.

If KC moved up from 27, Dallas could have done same from 28 to get mahomes.
KC gave up a 3rd in 2017 and a 1 in 2018 which would be a low 1st round pick to buffalo for the # 10 pick.

So KC saw something in Mahomes that no other team did, none of the "experts" did either, Kiper said Mahomes would be a bust.
Now mahomes is the new goat, and Jerry is still saying Dak can win in playoffs and win a SB.
Meanwhile Mahomes has won 2 SB's in a row and could possibly win his 3rd in a row this year.

Dak is still looking for 2 playoff wins in a row ! lol

Which just goes to show, just because your current qb is good, dont ignore the qb's in the draft each year , or you will miss a guy like mahomes.
Same for other positions too.
Had Dallas been smart enough to grab mahomes, and know he could be what he became, they could have traded Dak for premium picks at that time,
and actually upgraded future picks, so that they get mahomes @ 10 for nothing!.

here Broaddus and other 2 bozos show love for watson lol, and smh Mahomes !

What KC had that made them a better team and organization over the Cowboys at the time of this draft was both a real GM and a HC in Andy Reid. Had the Cowboys actually moved up in this draft I could see the Cowboy BRAIN TRUST taking the great Mitchell Trubisky as their next great QB....LOL!

It's fun to make stuff up.

yes it is ~!!
I got that from the title of a vid on same page, and I went back and looked at it, and it was the idiot Mikerphone !
He makes up fake titles , then puts something else in the vid. So my bad.

Did more looking, and kiper had mahomes going 13 to ariz, and mcshay had him going 32nd to the saints.
Trubisky and Watson were both predicted to go before mahomes.
No one said mahomes would be a bust.

lol a real GM !!!! That is something I forget about after all this time with uh uh Jerry !
A real HC, yeah that has become a pipe dream too!

So yeah Jones boys would have taken Watson or Trubisky.
But they were so happy about having cheap dak at the time, they thought they had hit gold again ! Cheap gold, which with the 2
scrooges, made it even sweeter.

But to be fair no one saw mahomes to be the next goat , like he has become.
And to me that shows how stupid all the experts and nfl coaches, Gm's, and owners are.

KC is right on par with NE with more championships in their sights, except when KC took Mahomes they were hoping to get that decent starter in the NFL. As for NE, there is no way they thought Brady could be more than a backup on their team when they drafted him in the late rounds of the NFL draft.

KC had a decent starter, they were in the playoffs with him.
Brady was a longshot or project , but during his rookie year BB was impressed enough to make him # 2 qb, and he played
well enough to keep the starter role even though bledsoe was ready to play again.
Tom wasnt great yet, but BB saw something in him by that point.

Watson won a Natty and played against the best college teams. Mahomes was in the Big 12 playing scrubs and didn't win crap in college. Yes, Watson was the obvious choice.
