I think we are gonna be stuck with a decision next year. Spencer could probably come back next year at a fair price, and i think we should. It would be about time that we had a underpaid Good Veteran instead of a Great OVERPAID one...

I don't think it is much of a decision. I wouldn't pay him a lot more than the veteran minimum, and his job is on the line every week.

Spencer is a good player. He deserves to be paid as such. His play should improve. But he is upgradeable. The problem I see at times is people want players replaced when there isn't a better replacement out there. We do need to hit on a couple of DE and another DT. I think the DTs are here although you're always looking for that next HOF player. It's DE, CB and S that needs playmakers IMO.

People are always quick to shout out problems.

Good solutions? Not so much.

I like Spencer but I don't see him coming back. I think his production can be replaced with a younger cheape option.

Was I the only one unimpressed by Spencer's effort in pursuing that play? He basically gave up 10 more yards after he got completely turned around by Forte. Once he did catch up, he managed to cause the fumble.

He got turned around the same way against Philly, and McCoy didn't fumble. It seemed like the same play that Philly ran on Thanksgiving.

it might have been but that play a screen pass is almost unguardable when you are expecting pass.....it takes someone shedding a block and making a square up tackle, if not then a strip ball down field works. I would not be suprised if it was run on us again and successful

Solutions? Draft pick. Signing a unproductive, 30+ year old player coming off injury makes no sense. Spencer is done.Time to move on.

I disagree. Depends on his play and demands. He's playing reasonably well although many here are hearing the drums.

Spencer is the oldest of seemingly endless DE's that provide zero pass rush. Of all the DE's on this team, only demarcus Lawrence is worth keeping. And thats only because he was a high draft pick and hurt most of the year. The rest of them are pretty much useless.

Lack of pass rush is what is killing this defense.

Thats why Marinelli is taking his best 3tech. tackle in Melton and moving him outside. He's desperately looking for pressure off the edge.

When you can replace him then fine. Until then he has to rotate and right now will start. Wish in one hand and crap in the other and see which one fills up faster.

I'd really like to watch these games that Anthony Spencer isn't absolutely terrible in.

I've seen enough of Spencer not setting the edge and getting turned around in space to know he's not played well.

We would only bring him back if it was on the cheap. The question will be does he want to stay here on the cheap or go somewhere else on the cheap. He won't be getting any "non-Cheap" deals from anyone. I would like him back, but he may not be a starter but hopefully he can be part of a rotation. And a better rotation that we had this year.

He played reasonably well his first couple of games back.

He hasn't looked good in a while.

If he wants to come back for a vet minimum type deal, then bring him back for cheap depth. If not, let him play elsewhere. Spencer's age, injuries, and unremarkable play make him expendable.

I haven't focused on his play but he's been serviceable the times I've looked. I'll look at the last game this week and say something right or wrong.

I'd bring Spencer back but not sure how far you are going with "he is good and deserves to be paid as such"?
He does not have the production to warrant more than a couple mil per season based upon his play this year.
He may well be vastly improved another 7 months and a full off-season from now though.

This is not a case of needing a miracle fix to upgrade. Spencer is about as good as Selvie, DLaw and Mincey this year.
Which is they Melton is playing DE.
