Anyone can catch anyone off balance, particularly late in a game when they are tired. He was immediately re-routed by the Tackle and was a non factor in the play. No one cares, other than on an emotional level, that Bennett fell down.

While the strip fumble is nice other than that he has been largely invisible the past several weeks - not even "Almost Anthony." I would like to see a lot more from him the remaining three games before I offered him anything other than camp body money.

He wasn't a factor in the play because there was room for the QB to step up, and there were open receivers in the area he was looking to throw it. It was still a good play by Spencer, on top of being amusing. You can give the guy credit for a couple big plays a game. It's really ok.

This was his best game since his first couple outings in weeks 4-5, as far as I could tell, just watching in real time. That's good news. Let's hope he can keep it up.

Again, he knocked over a TE with a bum wheel in the 4th Q. If I thought that was somehow impressive I would happily give him credit for something.

I came away with a different impression real time. If I get a chance to re-watch I will, but I certainly didn't come away from that game with the same impression as you. I will happily revise my opinion if a re-watch shows me differently. I certainly am not bad-mouthing him for fun.

I think we can both agree he has not been CLOSE to himself pre-surgery.

your bad mouthing him for what reason then?? if you have not yet re evaluated the film?...i never said he was playing pre injury but whos to say he wont? i only said we may have a decision in our hands on letting him go...

Because except for the strip fumble 13 yards down the field he was invisible to me during the game and pretty much a non-factor. Other than knocking over a TE, I haven't seen anything that refutes that.

Can definitely agree there. He's been largely disappointing this season. He still plays the run ok, and make the occasional play like he did this week, but the big plays are too few and too far between.

I don't see all the DE's (outside of Lawrence) being replaced in one offseason.

On top of that Mincey hasn't been bad. Neither has Spencer.

What the defense line needs is a 1 technique DT who can supply some kind of a pass rush.

Yeah, we like to rip the DE's for not getting sacks, and rightfully so to some extent, but the Cowboys are getting NOTHING out of the #1 DT spot.

In 484 snaps, Hayden has 0 sacks, 4 QB hits, and 3 QB hurries. That's 7 times out of 484 snaps when Hayden has caused any sort of disruption to the QB.

Just for comparison here is a good, but not real good left DT:

Kawann Short 490 snaps, 2 sacks, 7 QB hits and 14 QB hurries.

There are many NT who are putting more pressure on the QB than what Hayden is.

Add a DE who can supply 10 sacks and a DT who can supply some pressure at the #1 DT spot and you'll see all the other lineman benefit.
Those numbers are atrocious. Brent is slower than Hayden and he can probably do better.

Spencer is a pretty good effort guy but he has 33 career sacks and wanted large money not long ago.
At his peak he was probably Pro Bowl caliber but that was across from Ware.

At this point with .5 sacks and really providing ZERO pressure he is part of the problem.

I'd bring him back on a very cheap deal but he'd have to work to make my team next training camp.

yes. i dont see a problem with signing him cheap and letting him battle through camp and preseason. Could be that this year he is just getting back into football shape and may be a better player next year. By better player im thinking someone that can contribute in a part time roll but play well as long as not asked to do too much.

the team certainly needs an improved pass rush presence.
brent helps with strength because he demands two blockers or a qb will eat his center's backside.
crawford and melton both apply good 3T pressure.
issue is outside we have zero DE's currently who demand a double team even one play per game.

when your DE's can't beat single blocking you have no real shot at pressure over time.
dlaw has potential and spencer has done it before so those two come back for sure.
mincey brings a lot of vet leadership and effort so returns.
I can see selvie being let go but again they'd have to determine how much of this year is because he hasn't been fully healthy.

I seriously doubt we have a ton of new DL next year. but it would be nice to have 1 guy who demands double teams(for 30 defensive snaps per game at least), making everyone else better.

I agree with you Michael. First off, Mincey has been better than any of us had any reason to expect. He shouldn't be playing your primary pass rusher spot, but that is a team problem, not a problem with Mincey. It was just like playing Crawford outside...it was more by necessity than because it was the right spot for him.

We have a lot of vets at the positions that are rotation players and not starters. At DE, we currently have 6 guys that DC.com lists at DE on the active roster: Selvie, Mincey, Spencer, T. Crawford, J. Crawford and Lawrence. I would not be surprised if we only have Mincey, Lawrence and T. Crawford back from that group. If we were going to resign one, I would take Selvie on a cheap deal over the rest. Boatright and Edwards are probably back in the mix next year, as will be Ben Gardner. At DT, we have Brent, Hayden, Melton, McClain and Coleman. I would say Brent, McClain and Coleman will be back there. Melton is a toss up...I'd like him back for a reasonable price but not for what he currently is scheduled for. There is Bishop, Okoye and Whaley that should be in camp. I think we need two pass rushers more than anything else, definitely a DE and a pass rushing DT if we don't resign Melton. Can roll with what we have at LB and maybe a cheap vet or two or resign Durant. Still need a corner or two and a S.

Getting that 10 sack guy will not only help the rest of the DL, he will help the secondary.
