I know there´s been a lot of debate on if Garrett gets fired if they miss the playoffs, even though Jerry said he will be back I 2014 I think he´s outta here if they don´t. Saying that I think they win the EAST this year..
This is Broaddus take on the matter.
On to the head coaching situation, does Garrett need to make the playoffs to keep his job?
I think he has all along. I know the general manager/owner came out and said he was safe. Even if you listen to the owner talk the last several weeks since then, the stance has softened. They realize the division if there for the taking and you have to find a way to do it. Jason Garrett has had two seasons – the Giants game two seasons ago and the Commanders game last year – to get this team in the playoffs, to win the division. He hasn’t been successful. I don’t see how the general manager/owner could stand there and say, ‘ok we’ll bring you back’ if this team doesn’t get into the playoffs. I don’t believe that’s the case. I’ve never believed that’s the case. It’s a bottom line business.
As healthy as this team has been all year, if he can’t complete the mission then they’ll find someone who will. Garrett has to get this team in the playoffs or he’ll be looking for a job. That’s the way the National Football League is. Garrett knows it.
Does Garrett have to win a playoff game as well?
I think if he gets the team into the playoffs it would be a home game because they’d likely be the division winner. It depends on who you play. I’ve watched some of Carolina and they play great defense. Carolina, San Francisco. Who do they play? That’s what you have to see.
But if they do make the playoffs it will be deemed as an improvement and they’ll likely pick up the option and move onto next year.
