“***gtFlo1: @BryanBroaddus is Arkin a lost cause?” I was really wrong about him. Going to get one more chance but Leary is ahead.

One more chance :bang2:

I have big hopes for Leary this year, with a full offseason he can really only benefit from it.

That's not the point. When you've got him, you might as well bring him into the start of training camp to see if he got stronger or better somehow in the offseason. No reason to banghead just because the guy's on the roster going into a third offseason.

It's the typical being-negative-about-something-that's-not-in-any-way-a-negative that can be put alongside criticisms like the criticism of our challenge flag process or our criticism of Tony Romo's extension. The team does some dumb things. That doesn't mean that everything it does is dumb and needs to be complained about.

Kahill Eatman Eckerley and Eagleton were talking about Arkin. They were saying hthat one of the big risks in taking a guy from a school without a top end weight program is that you cannot tell whether or not the prospect will be able to train as NFL players have to be able to train.

They described how the body could go into shock from overwork and while they didn't out and say it I got the impression that Arkin was who they were talking about. They brought him up immediately as well as Matt Johnson.

We got to see him last preseason and I think it was pretty much agreed that he didn't make many mental mistakes but he just didn't have the strength to anchor or get push.

I work out but I am far from a kenesiologist so I was wondering if anyone had a take on that from an advanced perspective. If he indeed went into shock from training too hard does that mean he has topped out in how hard he can work or is it like other things where you can continue to get better at it?

I don't like just giving up on guys especially when they have not given me any indication that they are anything other than good people.

Hey now, Tree actually made a play once in a blue moon. Arkin hasn't done anything worthwhile

I think the biggest problem as far as weight training was that the players were locked out (/) and couldn't work with Woicik. Hopefully he is catching up this time.

My ideal starters at guards would be Leary at RG with Cooper or Warmack at LG...

Well let's see.

Ogletree, after being on the squad in the same offense for three years, would still line up wrong and run wrong routes. He also had all of the speed and quickness that one could want in an NFL WR.

Arkin after two years on the team and missing an offseason due to the lockout, appeared to not have mental lapses in his play and blocked his assignments. He did not have the size and power that one could want in an NFL lineman.

The only similarities that I see are that you don't like them and think that both should have been off the team even before now.

Neither had Dwayne Harris a year ago. I have no clue if Arkin will do anything but developing players does take time, and O Linemen usually take more than most. Its purely a question of whether Arkin can add the needed strength and there are zero reasons to not bring him to camp this year.

Yes, over-training is a real concern. I think we're just starting to get our hands around it. The body needs rest time to repair before it gets bigger and/or stronger, and everyone is different. The thing is you draft some small school guy and think he's just going to "catch up" with his peers who played 4-5 at a NFL minor league farm team like like Alabama after one or two NFL off-seasons, but the body doesn't always react the way you want it to. Probably the reason why Nate Newton didn't begin to flourish until he was nearly 30.
