Broaddus tweet on Arkin

On a side note, I appreciate Broaddus for his sources in the scouting department and maybe he can break down film .... but man ... sometimes he says things that are just pants on the head stupid.

On the latest Talking Cowboys he was making the case that the Cowboys should draft a QB soon to prepare to replace Romo with. He then supported it by saying the Ravens cut Trent Dilfer after they won the Superbowl and drafted Joe Flacco to replace him. Dilfer last played with the Ravens in the 2000 season, and Joe Flacco was drafted in 2008 ... so he was only off by a mere 8 years give or take. I understand a slip of the tongue or the occasional brain fart, but connecting events that happened 8 friggin years apart? This isn't even getting into the catastrophic cap ramifications that would be involved in releasing Romo after 1 (or even 2) years into this extension. This guy is a former longtime NFL employee, and he sounds like an ESPN messageboard poster.

That's not even the dumbest thing he's said. He keeps mentioning trading 18 for 31 (SF) and swapping 47 for 34 and saying that the 49ers would be giving the Cowboys a deal but they might do it. When in reality the Cowboys would be big losers since 2nd round picks are not near as valuable. I think the point difference ended up being a mid 3rd round pick.

Excellent description.

He occasionally has something interesting to say, but logical reasoning is not an ability that he possesses.

Best of luck to your PM box if he sees this...

He actually means he was wrong about him being able to play. He liked him when he was drafted. That said he may end up being wrong twice if Arkin gains the need strength because he's given up way too early on the kid.

One reason he struggled is because he played several OL positions and never really got to stick at one and learn it.

True. I don't much he says seriously. He's wrong more often than right, imo.

forget Broaddus and everyone else, why do the Cowboys insist on drafting these projects? It never pans out, Skyler Green, AOA, Stanback, Hodges, Brewster, that 3 rd LB in 09, and of course Arkin.

In Arkin's case, the second string OL we drafted from Wisconsin in the 7th round, and Kowalski passed him by in training camp. So why did we waste a 4th round draft pick on him. It would have made more sense to use it on one of these guys, and sign Arkin as an undrafted FA. I seriously doubt any other team would have drafted him before the 7th round.

He was drafted about where the scouting sites had him projected to go. Several draftniks gave the Cowboys thumbs up for the pick. He wasn't a reach. He may just end up being a 4th round pick that didn't pan out.

And our 6th round pick from a small school in the same draft has worked out okay so far. (Dwayne Harris)

And our 5th round pick from a small school in the same draft is doing okay for himself too. Unfortunately, not for us. Josh Thomas got caught in a numbers game in his rookie camp and we tried to sneak him on the practice squad, but the Panthers snagged him (the Cowboys coaches were reportedly sick about losing him). He had a solid year for Carolina last year and reportedly has a good shot at being their 3rd/nickel cornerback this year.
