I'm going to guess and say that he is thinking that Melton would be unwilling to come back at a smaller contract.

I wouldn't blame him though, he took a prove it contract and in his mind he may think he proved he's worth the pay increase.

Among DTs he is 7th in sacks. The guys ahead of him are Dareus, McCoy, Marks, Paea, Donald, and Tom Johnson. He is tied with Kyle Williams and Dontari Poe. While we shouldn't be giving him all of what is on his option, it would be silly not to try to bring him back considering he will likely be even better next year and he is in pretty good company this year.

Okoye, really??? If we go into next season still needing good (not practice squad types) DL, we will struggle on Defense again. Why do people have a problem paying guys who we need?

I don't have problem with paying Melton but if it comes down to paying him or a very good FA DE big money, I rather pay the DE. At least we have some options at DT. We have none at DE.

I wonder what not exercising the option does to our reputation with free agents. I get and I know that they all get that this is a business, but if agents know we aren't willing to pick up the option on players who played well (like Melton has IMO), we probably won't get anyone else to sign a similarly structured deal.

I still that the deal, with his $9M 2015 base, was set up to be restructured all along. It also protected the team from Melton not being healthy, but I'm sure they told Melton he would get his money if he played well.

Coming up big in the next two games would help his case, but so far I'm just not seeing it...

I think keeping Melton is a must. Wouldn't mind grabbing a DT in the draft bit what we really need is pass rushing DE.

I still think Ben Gardner will make this team when he gets healthy.

I'd like to see if Suh would take $9.5 million (or so) on a 3-4 year deal instead of picking up Melton's option. Pipe, I know, but I'd rather Suh here than Melton next year.

If Marinelli comes back and wants Melton they need to make it happen. Last year he wanted Hatcher and they let him go. He's doing miracles with what they've given him this year to the point that Jerry even called attention to it.

Forget Melton.

Marrinelli is the one that concerns me about leaving.

If he goes..

we have shoes to fill.

When you think about this Cowboys team and its coaches..

Marrinelli, Linehart and our OL coach have made a really good support staff for Garrett.

I'm relieved to see it finally.

I hope he stays too but his contract is up and Lovie Smith may still try to get him to come to Tampa and with him loyalty may out weigh money. I think Keeping Monte is a plus for us. If he did leave they've speculated that Eberflus might be a candidate to replace him.
