Broaddus tweets on Melton

I'd like to see if Suh would take $9.5 million (or so) on a 3-4 year deal instead of picking up Melton's option. Pipe, I know, but I'd rather Suh here than Melton next year.

I think everyone would but Suh is going to get maybe a little less than JJ Watt money, which was around $13.5 /yr (8yr for $109m with $52 guaranteed). The only reason** he would take less would maybe be if the entire contract was guaranteed. Not sure you'd want to do that with Suh at 28.

**Unless there's something that will happen regarding tv contracts where the cap will shoot up in a couple of years.

Also, if we though the other owners hated Jerry before, wait until he's the guy who fully guaranteed a giant contract.

If we could keep Melton for 4-5 years at around $5.5M, I'd like to see Dallas sign him up. He's been very good but not a franchise level defensive player. If we're dumping Carr, essentially it's a Melton contract and another player for the equivalent of a Carr contract.

Also, keeping a strong rotation at that spot will reduce Crawford's snaps. Fewer snaps will limit some opportunities of injury, keeps both fresh, gives us a very strong interior pass rush on passing downs, and might make Crawford cheaper to sign in a couple years.

Agree with this
Give me Crawford and suh and then draft a DE high (at 32:))

Goodbye Melton, Carter, Spencer and Sadly Murray.. Just my 2 cents..

Forget Melton.

Marrinelli is the one that concerns me about leaving.

If he goes..

we have shoes to fill.

When you think about this Cowboys team and its coaches..

Marrinelli, Linehart and our OL coach have made a really good support staff for Garrett.

I'm relieved to see it finally.

Agree. JJ should open the wallet for whatever $$$ it takes to keep Marinelli. I for one like the fire he shows on the sidelines. He's doing a lot with no pass rush, and a DB group that still has some glaring weakness.

Take what Broaddus says and expect the opposite :p

Anytime Broaddus answers a question on twitter it's meaningless. You might as well use a Magic 8-ball.

He tries to respond to a lot of people and gives these answer Zero thought. If he spent a full minute thinking about each question he would spend 24 hours a day answering them.

I hope he stays too but his contract is up and Lovie Smith may still try to get him to come to Tampa and with him loyalty may out weigh money. I think Keeping Monte is a plus for us. If he did leave they've speculated that Eberflus might be a candidate to replace him.

Time for Jerrah to step up and open the checkbook

Nothing he pays out applies to the cap anyway

Then again.

If Rex Ryan leaves NY..

would he take a DC job?

Clearly he won't make the 9m but I don't see why he his not brought back on a friendlier contract. I would be shock if he not back.

It's highly unlikely that Lovie is going to firer Leslie Frazier after 1 year.

How about this......keep melton, bring back whaley, sign roy miller, sign lamarr Houston if available, and draft malcom brown............

Lamarr Houston
3/11/2014: Signed a five-year, $35 million contract. The deal contains $15 million guaranteed, including a $4.95 million signing bonus and first-year roster bonus of $3 million. 2014: $1 million, 2015-2017: $5.95 million, 2018: $7.95 million, 2019: Free Agent

various:
Started the year assuming Melton was gone.
Now I am exactly the opposite. He has been the best DE we have in his limited snaps there and proven disruptive inside.
9.5. isn't cheap but a 1 year commitment is what you want with an older proven player.
I think they hand him 9.5 in 2015 but extend his deal a couple season's to lower the cap hit.
Say 3 years 15m with 8.5 up front and his 1m base also guaranteed.
Play Melton and Crawford together on 3rd downs and let them split base set reps and both stay fresh and VERY effective.

Not sure where this Rod M stuff comes from. Tampa is struggling mightily and Rod has a chance to coach a team here to accomplish something in the playoffs.
I think he'd take a gig with Lovie if out there looking but he'd be replacing another of his buddies to do so.

Also FWIW. Melton might have 12 sacks had he been playing beside Ware and Hatcher all year. He has shown real explosion and the rest of the DL has shown none.
Other than Crawford's consistent push and effort we just don't pressure outside of Melton.
If you want to know how impactful Ware really is look at the stats for Selvie and Hatcher this year without his drawing double teams.

You would want to sign a guy, who is out for the year, after celebrating a sack?

Suh probably will probably get 12M+ per year.

He would better a better value at 12M than Melton at 9M, IMO. Melton is playing slightly over 30 snaps per game. Suh plays over 60 per game.
