They won't spend big money on a de and then take one in the first.

It doesn't have to be big money.

The contract might also be designed with a second year escape clause like Henry Melton's.

If the team isn't counting on a veteran free agent to remain on the roster long term or he's viewed as working best in a rotation, using an early draft selection on the position would be justified.

That doesn't mean Dallas needs to reach for a DE in the first or second round, just that the option is on the table if the right player happens to be available.

Melton will want to stay with Marinelli. Dallas will restructure his contract and he will be back.

I do wonder if there is any tension with Marinelli in regards to Jerry pushing for Josh Brent to be active. I could see Marinelli telling Jerry that Melton would have to be inactive if Brent was active because they can't count on either Melton of Brent to play much more than 30 snaps. Hayden is not very good but they can count on him to play a lot of snaps.

If there is Marinelli needs to watch practice more closely. Brent more than warranted his active status and game play.

I don;t know what was up with the Melton situation but he wasn't a scratch and then wasn't even benched for not making the bus... tho it was considered.
He also got the best pressure we had and batted down a pass.

If they scratch him over Selvie(who's clearly injured) at this point they are insanely stupid.

Agree.

I think the front office has been pushing for Brent to be active but for some odd reason Marinelli loves Hayden. I think the front office might just avoid re-signing Hayden who is free agent after the season.

We can move on from Marinelli. He has his talents. But I'd rather us not rely on him coaching up scrubs and invest in getting the players instead. When he's here, JJ has a tendency to think guys like Selvie and McClain are legit starters simply because Marinelli can motivate them to not suck as much

Just the opposite is probably true. Give Marinelli the talent like we will add this off season and watch how good our defense is.
