Broadus is saying they'll go DL at #9...

I think with Luck not declaring, and the likelihood that Peterson will be long gone by pick #9, that many on this board are going to get their wish.

We'll stand pat at 9 and draft the highest rated Tackle or possibly trade down a few spots IF we have 2 players with high grades and feel safe we'll still get our guy.

Whether that guy is Derek Sherrod, Gabe Cirmimi, Tyron Smith, or Anthony Castonzo will depend on how these guys perform over the next few months (Combine, Pro Days, Team workouts) and how our scouts grade them.

I think Garrett wants this Offense to be high-powered and he knows the offensive line and running game must improve for that happen. I'm not saying he'll ignore defensive needs but his bread and butter is the offense.

With 4 months to go I just see the draft playing out this way. The only other thing is if Jerry falls in love with Peterson he may be willing to move up and get him.

Defensive Line is a strength at the top of this draft and could be a major need with our potential Free Agents but I just don't see how we justify a Top 10 pick and whatever money that comes with it, on a 3-4 Defensive Lineman.

Im usually like Jon Gruden in my love of draftees but Im calling it now. Marcel Dareus is way suck.

I dont see much difference between the 1st round DE's and the 2nd round DE's.

We lead the legue in sacks a year ago w/ these same meh DE's. Just get an OLB to actually make Spencer give a damn. Contract year + hot young rookie = production

:laugh2: Yah, the D Line doesnt need any help, didnt you see how dominant they were this year?

Very good post imho.

I do expect in his first draft as Head Coach Garrett gets a new toy for his offense.

We may trade down a few spots but I expect an RT to start next year instead of Columbo. If you upgrade that terrible, terrible RT play you can prop up Davis a bit and create a workable makeshift unit. But Columbo was just totally outclassed almost every down.

Insightful post!
We were so good everywhere that we shouldn't even bother drafting at all.

:p:

We get one top 10 selection and we will not be able to use it everywhere we need help. We were middle of the road in sacks and perhaps had the worst secondary play in all of football.

Totally.

As suggested by other posters, what we need to do is resign those man-beasts to long term, big money contracts since they're unrestricted free agents and all. Then they'll really turn it on.

Why settle for mediocrity for one year, when you can tie mediocrity up long term and be saddled with it for years??

Sounds like a great plan.

I'm sorry .. did you mean to imply that we were "stockpiled" because we had Junior Savii? Or was that a typo? And heaven forbid we attempt to upgrade over world beaters like Igor and Bowen.

And I'm not sure what you mean by "control our destiny" with our free agents. Do we have the opportunity to pay for a bunch of proven mediocre to sub mediocre players? Or vastly overpay Spears more than he's worth? Sure, I guess we have the "destiny" to do that. I guess it's good to be the king.

Sorry I forgot the 7th round draft pick in Brent. If that's considered stockpiling talent, then we're pretty much set at every position. No need to look at secondary, we've taken Ball, AOA, Scandrick and other late rounders there. Looks like we're good. I guess we can focus our attention on spending another 1st round pick on a 3rd down back or WR or 2nd TE. Can't have enough of those.

Name the 3rd down back or TE we drafted in one?

I'm waiting..................

You take a 2 down run stopper at 9 you aren't fixing the secondary or OL to the extent that need to.........unless you do it in FA which usually doesn't work out.

I'll take a CB at 9 all day every day vs a DE.

And I'm a guy who is always for drafting front 7.

Ridiculous! He played with an ankle injury all season that had him barely able to walk but he battled through it and continued playing.

He played in the 3-4 for Saban but is really a 4-3 DT so we probably wouldn't go with him even if he was there.

But the guy is an animal when healthy. He was absolutely unblockable in the bowl game which was the first time all season he was healthy. He literally destroyed the MSU OL.

I hope he is. It will be difficult to replace him. He had a terrible year, but we know he can have a great year too.

I think Davis returns because of his contract but I hope they told him to lose weight and he has to fight and win the starting position in training camp.

Koiser is a FA, Columbo is done and is gone; the Olinemen in this draft is not very top heavy of the draft. If Jerry goes to go get Logan then he can not cut Davis because Koiser is a fA we will probaly add a young FA linemen as well to compete at RT. I see some type of salary cap still in place after the lockout ends. Worse case scenario is we keep Davis and he is an expensive backup olinemen, best case he loses weight and comes back strong next year,

If we sign Mankins and re-sign Kosier, why can't we cut Leonard Davis?

Kosier >>>> Davis

I take anything Broaddus says with a grain of salt nowadays, guy seems like an idiot.

Not that im a draft expert, but depending on what we do in FA, if Peterson isn't available when we pick, i'd trade down to the mid teens and try to pick up an extra second, and take Cimiri/Sherrod. With our 2 2nd round picks or late first/2nd round i try and grab Heyward or a DB and with the other take Wisniewski/Pouncey.

Maybe Moffit in the 3rd round and Kenrick Ellis in the 4th.

I'd rather pay Spears free agent money than pay #9 pick top 10 money to do the same job.

I agree... And I get the feeling Dallas wants to bring back Spears.

We have plenty of talent at the skill positions. More than we need.

We suck in the trenches. We must upgrade both OL and DL in a big way.

And we must upgrade safety, corner and LB.

Our areas in order of needed upgrade per impact on our success:

1.OL
2.DL
3.Safety
4.Corner
5.LB

We need at least 2 new OL that are really good. We need at least one more disrupter on the DL. We need a FS, since we played with 10 on defense most of the year. We need competition at corner. We need a LB who can hurt someone.

What's the deal with Deunta Williams? Does anyone know where he's projected to go?

He broke his leg.

He was probably a 2nd rounder, now a 3rd rounderish.

Besides Peterson hes the only safety I think is better than AOA

Maybe he could be our Chris Canty this year?
