It does, Denver got a steal at this price. He signed early so its basically a 6 year deal with the actual extension not starting until 2026. Over that time its a 6 year /$121M deal. That's not bad for an elite level CB
This is true if he was going to play out the entire contract. That's not likely.

I haven't seen the actual terms but they probably did what Philly did with D Smith and added money to this year and next so it's really just a two, maybe three-year extension, and they'll have to extend him again after 2027.

I agree but my problem with waiting to sign Parsons is the position he plays is more prone to injuries/wear N tear. Even Stephen Jones once said LBer position has more injuries and than all other football positions. I would hate to make him the highest-paid non-QB two years from now and only one or two healthy years from that contract. This is why I'm in favor of paying him NOW while his body isn't still young without a lot of wear and tear. In other words, I don't want us holding a contract and player similar to Sean Lee last few years.
Parsons said himself that the longer he waits, the bigger his contract will be. Parsons will have a CeeDee type holdout. The Cowboys cannot do anything about it unless they offer Parsons a quarterback type of contract now.

Well, out of that 2021 quite a few reset the market for their position. Micah will do the same. It's just that edge is the #2/3 most valuable position in terms of payday. Nick Bosa was the highest paid non QB for a stretch.

I have a feeling if Dallas went to Micah and offered him 36mil AAV, and bonuses that exceed the Bosa contract, he would sign it/get close in talks.\

If Dallas went to him and offered 32mil, 6 years, honest offer he would balk.
The Cowboys don’t reset the market unless they have to. I agree though, offer Parsons a Jefferson type of contract, he will have a hard time saying no.

Well all we know is how this franchise has ran its team in the past.

If they made Micah the highest paid non quarterback in the league righ now would he turn that deal down? If so I’d agree with you. But I don’t think we have that confirmed.
The Joneses never reset the market unless they have too. We are not the Eagles.

Big difference. Parsons wants to be the highest non quarterback in the NFL. CeeDee wanted a contract that made him the second highest paid receiver in the game, and finally Dak wants to be the highest paid quarterback in the league. None of the big three were going to sign early. I can’t stand this narrative that media is trying to put out there.
the narrative is that the longer you wait, the more expensive it gets, and they aren't wrong. Making each of those players the highest paid at their position last year would've been cheaper than what it is this year.

My ideal contract for Parsons would be 4 year extension at $35m per, but I wouldnt be mad if at $38M per year either. With his last two years on his rookie deal that gives you control through his age 31 season. After this season though I get the feeling that number is going to be at least $40M to get something done. If the cap jumps to say $280M next year Micah probably wants 15% of that which is on par with what Bosa and Watt received. That would put it at $42M.
See....this is what I'm talking about. I would have Parson in my office right now trying to convince him to take $35-38M. IF he flat-out refuses, I'm sorry but would def start considering other options.

Very possible, but even if that is the case its nice for the team if they have those years of control as leverage when those next negotiations start. People are probably going to be disappointed after this year when Diggs goes through the same thing if he shows he is 100% healthy.

Keep in mind, that he was in the same draft class as Parsons. THIS is how you get a deal done early and not wait until the last min.

That is peanuts compared to what Micah is going to want. I think Micah is going to want 40 mil a season. Maybe for 5 years.

for sure. Parsons is that type of player that resets the market so I hope they are not in denial about his $ demands.
That being said, I'm sure Dallas is in no rush getting him re-signed this year, especially if there are serious about re-signing Dak. They have the cash for it, but I doubt they want to sign 3 huge deals in one season.

if they signed him now, the new contract will be the same length and go into effect at the same time as a contract he signs next year.

I love Parsons but I would have to think long and hard about $40M, Not coz he doesn't deserve it ( if the market says it he does, I'm fine with it ) but the injuries ar his position scare the heck out of me. Imagine holding bag for a player making that much money who can only give you an average 10-12 games a season after signing his contract.
