BROWNS RELEASE BENTLEY

LeCharles Bentley’s two-year tenure with the Cleveland Browns has come to an end, without Bentley ever playing a down for the team.
Bentley’s agent, Jonathan Feinsod, said he asked for and received his release today.

“LeCharles came back to Cleveland to be in integral part of the Cleveland Browns, his hometown team,” Feinsod said, per Mary Kay Cabot of the Plain Dealer. “Through no fault of the Browns at all, they didn’t know if LeCharles was going to come back or not and they moved on with their plans. But this is not the same team LeCharles signed with. They have commitments to other players. LeCharles is not ready to be an insurance policy at this point.”

The 28-year-old Bentley passed a physical yesterday and expects to play in 2008. It just won’t be with the Browns.

A native of Cleveland, Bentley signed a free-agent contract with the Browns in 2006, only to suffer a serious knee injury that kept him out for the entire season. After developing a staph infection in the knee, he also missed all of 2007.

tough break for him. dude just can't stay healthy than he finally gets healthy but the team is tired of waiting.

This would be an outstanding pick-up for anyone as a back-up Center!

He could also play guard, but thats if he really is well which is probably pretty doubtful since they cut him.

has a player ever sued a club for staff infection?

Too much of that is passed around locker rooms

Covert to WR and compete with Matt Jones for the final slot on Cowboy roster. ;)

As a back-up -- I'd certainly take him. They said he passed his physical...

Joe Jurevicius just became the sixth Browns player in 4 years to get a staph infection following surgery.

So did Alonzo Highsmith, but he was done after his knee problem. As far as Olinemen, Erik Williams was never the same after he tore up his knee in a car accident. Passing a physical doesn't mean the knee is back to normal.

He's going to want to go somewhere where he thinks he can start--and get paid like a starter. I bet he can find some place. Hell, the Skins could use him badly to shore up their geriatric ward... i mean, offensive line.

It's a shame that he couldn't get on the field in two years. He was a very good player from what I recall. Hopefully he'll catch on somewhere and rebound.

The Commanders need to sign him immediately.

IF Bentley is healthy, this is the exact kind of player every fan should be excited about their team acquiring. He's young. He has multiple Pro Bowl selections on his resume. There are no strings from his ex-team. Not only can he play as a starter at center, he can start at guard.

He wouldn't unseat Gurode, but he would be a clear upgrade over Kosier. Helloooo?

Just like with Columbo, I would be fine with rolling the dice on this guy. We don't need him to start in 2008, but his depth over Proctor or Berger could be a benefit. In a year or so perhaps he is back to being our best option at LG.

Worth the risk.

That would give the Skins some outstanding depth on the O-line with Heyer, Bentley and the rookie Rinehart (assuming he doesn't honk)
