BROWNS RELEASE BENTLEY
LeCharles Bentley’s two-year tenure with the Cleveland Browns has come to an end, without Bentley ever playing a down for the team.
Bentley’s agent, Jonathan Feinsod, said he asked for and received his release today.
“LeCharles came back to Cleveland to be in integral part of the Cleveland Browns, his hometown team,” Feinsod said, per Mary Kay Cabot of the Plain Dealer. “Through no fault of the Browns at all, they didn’t know if LeCharles was going to come back or not and
they moved on with their plans. But this is not the same team LeCharles signed with. They have commitments to other players. LeCharles is not ready to be an insurance policy at this point.”
The 28-year-old Bentley
passed a physical yesterday and expects to play in 2008. It just won’t be with the Browns.
A native of Cleveland, Bentley signed a free-agent contract with the Browns in 2006, only to suffer a serious knee injury that kept him out for the entire season. After developing a staph infection in the knee, he also missed all of 2007.
