Now, if the Lions would just take Jason Garrett. The Cowboys don't have time for on the job training. Plus, that was the biggest wast of $ 3 million dollars I've seen.

Cripes, how transparent can this be? Phillips is such a lame-duck head coach -- even if he weren't the laid back, mellow type, Jerry Jones doesn't exactly create the perception that this guy has any juice whatsoever when it comes to player and coaching decisions.

Quote: "Everyone on his coaching staff will be subject to an evaluation process."

Translation: "I'll get rid of whomever Jerry wants me to get rid of and I'll keep whomever Jerry wants me to keep."

Yeah, but it's like throwing a cup of water on a forest fire. It doesn't mean a thing -- the problems on this team run so much deeper than special team gaffes.

I was searching for a similar analogy. Great one. :)

one scrub gone....

Read definitely belongs up there with the Shula's, Reilly's and Zimmers as worst coaches we've ever had here

Don't forget Bruce Coslet. Friggin awful.

But this is the first great news of the off season. Now, maybe they can also get rid of Wade Wilson, and that piece of furniture known as Brian Stewart.

Read Becomes First Major Change
Posted by mickshot at 12/31/2008 1:53 PM CST on truebluefanclub.com

Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips on Monday talked of change taking place around here after the Cowboys' disappointing 9-7 season, and it hasn't taken long for the first change to occur, the Cowboys announcing on New Year's Eve special teams coach Bruce Read will not return for the 2009 season.
The Cowboys struggled in coverage most of this season, and they never really established much returning punts or kickoffs, either. Coverage also was a sore spot last season, and breakdowns in the two seasons he's served as special teams coach under Phillips have cost the Cowboys severely in several games.
Phillips was asked specifically about Read's status on Monday, and he basically said everyone on his coaching staff would be subject to an off-season evaluation process, although readily pointed out his two coordinators, Jason Garrett and Brian Stewart, would return.

2009 is already starting off well!

This move should have been made 2 years ago.

Yes but what about continuity?

With all due respect Juke, what kind of continuity was there when J.J. Arrington was taking the opening kickoff for a touchdown? That alone possibly could have cost Dallas the season as McBriar was injured in overtime.

McBriar meant better field position. That was something Dallas really could have used in the losses against Pittsburgh and Baltimore.

There were many other breakdowns on special teams throughout the season. A changed definately needed to be made.

Just the thought of McBriar back booming punts 50+ yards next year makes me :D

...anything on his recovery process, but don't be surprised if it takes a little longer to get his leg back.

I believe it was his kicking foot that was broken and outside of your kicking hip that's the worse type of injury to come back from.

When I was younger and went to a kicking camp one of our instructors was promising college Div. 1 kicker who's career ended due to a broken foot.

Circumstances make comparisons difficult, but think about an injury to the part of of your body that consistently comes in explosive contact with a football warm and frozen.

We will have to see how he is when he comes back.

If I was Wade/Jerry or whomever is running the ship I would make sure I had my scouts looking for a punter this off season.

This is an absolutely fantastic post. Anyone who has not read this is missing out on a gem.

This will make you horny.

...back when I was getting flamed about the football teams needing specific position coaches to improve the performance of players this guy was one of the better examples in the coaching profession.

As part of the NFL/CFL exchange he has done a few clinics here in Canada and I got to attend one through Football Saskatchewan.

He was way over our head, but you knew that he was the real deal. I enjoyed his sessions on the kickoffs given my past as a kicker.

He is a step in the right direction and he has a passion for directional kicking which I firmly believe in and his unit's stats support his theories.

I'm going to try to find my notes from his session which I attended (5) years ago and see if there is anything interesting I can post.
