Except every time we focus on the run we don't score :(

The Cowboys identity is Red Ball. First and goal on the one? GIVE ME SHOTGUN!

Every time like when?

Herm the germ has it wrong.

Austin is going back home and he will demand enough respect to get multiple looks. And Witten will need throws and Williams too to save him from further embarrassment.

So while I hope that Barber and Choice pound for yardage inside the 5, I really look for possession ball via the mid-range passes to Austin, which he can break, or to Witten. And yes, token passes to Williams, who will waste downs for us.

Herm be wrong.
The Cowboys passing game will dominate Sunday, and the beauty of it is the Giants defense has been expecting the Boys to run all evening. They won't know what will hit them.:D

Not sure if we have an identity.

It SHOULD be running the ball and playing solid defense but that is pending.

The defense has an identity. The special teams has an identity. The offense does not.

Our Offensive idenity SHOULD be...a team that comes out firing with a pass heavy mix of run and pass (60/40) that puts points on the board and for three quarters and gets the lead. And then puts the game away with a heavy dose of run run run in the fourth. Passing in the fourth only when necessary to get the next first down.

If the Offense scores points the Defense will do its part and so will special teams. True the Defense let us down a couple of times late in games early in the season but I believe we are past that now.

Nobody....NOBODY understands football like Troy Aikman and he speaks facts.

"The game has changed a lot in the last ten years..." he said. Passing is what moves the ball. It's what scores points. It's what wins.

The teams that are run heavy are loss heavy.

Nope, he's wrong... We are a passing team that uses the pass to setup the run.

Why do you think we see so many damn draw plays? Using the pass to setup the run.

Do we have a good running game? Yes. But the reality is we are a pass first team.

It goes good with the 8.2 per pass which is 3rd in the NFL. May have something to do with being 8-3 when you start combining the 5.3 and the 8.2 per rush and pass

People seem to want to lock in this offense as either running or passing, but the truth is that we succeed when we don't try to push either one.

It's when we try to beat teams with one and don't do anything with the other that we get into trouble.

That's funny. A good number of playoff teams last year were run heavy.

The Dallas Cowboys have found their identity and that's running the ball. It was also noted that we have a tremendous three headed monster at RB.

:clap2:

Herm and I would get along very well.

Choice for president.
Considering that Dallas rolled the Giants D for 250yds Week 2, I'm sure Garrett will come out passing like a mad man

Check the Super Bowl buddy. 80% of the plays and 90% of the yards were through the air.

Check the undefeated teams this year.

And before you try to contrive something about New Orleans being "balanced" realize that they pass to get up 35-3 and then they run the last 1/3 of the game.

That would be a likely story if they weren't tops in rushing TDs, top 5 in average, and top 5 in 1st downs gained. Oh yeah, Top 5 in yards per game too.

They are balanced. INCREDIBLY balanced.

We do run the ball we also have one of the better QB's who can put up big numbers. I think the identity should be a team that is very capable of hurting you with the run as well as the pass and a defense who is playing as well as any unit out there

This.

However, I think our first emphasis should always be on establishing the LOS on their side of the ball and letting them know it's going to be a long day in the trenches. Then when they load up the box hit em with some play action.

To the OP

The papers I read seem to think the same thing. Everyone knows we have good rbs and just assume we run like crazy..

Yeah I know. Regardless of what Herm has won, he is spot on with his assessment of what we should be doing as move forward into December.

Teren_Kanan;3117435 said:
Hello? You play to win the game.

I couldn't resist.

I'm not one of those who think we "need to run the ball more". I think we are actually pretty well balanced right now. I do however, think we need to run smarter, and at more appropriate times.

1st and goal from the 2 should entail at LEAST 2 running attempts from power formations, and NOT draw plays.

We are good at running, great at passing, where the hell is the play action?

This is an excellent post. Thanks.

He lost his job for a reason..........and part of it was his coaching decisions.

That really has zero to do with his ability to form an opinion as an analyst. Many analysts are respected nowadays and most of them have either never played/coached or weren't much when they did play/coach. You guys crack me up with your veiled attempts to discredit people...

I think you'll be in for a big surprise tomorrow. Big and pleasant for some. I believe our focus will be 60/40 with an emphasis on the run as we move through a very difficult frigid December schedule.

And you want to claim this guy as your big buddy and your point of reference in claiming some truth?

Really now... The guy is an analyst and happens to have a very good opinion of the Boys "as an analyst". Sean Salisbury never won **** either but many here thing he is a lovely analyst. Perspective please....

You are so off base that it's not even funny. A good number of teams that have success nowadays utilize a good 60/40 mix of run pass. Balance is the word and we have already talked about it on this board many times.

Our "Identity" is when Romo plays well we win. When he doesn't we usually lose. That's the identity of this offense. It's always about him.

That's very unfortunate. It shouldn't all be about one person if you have the ability, as an offense, to diversify. I will agree with anyone that says Romo is an important part of this offense. However, to ask him to place it on his back game after game (especially down the stretch when weather becomes part of the equation) is simply asking for more disappointment.

It's really not. If Brady, P. Manning, or Brees plays bad do those teams win? The NFL has always been about the QB. How that one guy plays determines how everything else develops.

You can cover up lack of running game, bad Oline (see GB), and depth if your QB is playing good.

If this team could actually engineer one extended drive without committing a false start I would have more confidence in what Herm said.

COWBOYS-GIANTS

Cowboys –2: For the first time since the end of the 2007 season against the then-perfect Patriots (minus-13) the Giants are home dogs.

Rood opened Cowboys -1. “We immediately got some professional play, so we’re 11⁄2 on the Cowboys,” he said. “There are 21⁄2’s out there. I kinda have a feeling this game’s gonna go to 3.”

Everyone is off the Big Blue bandwagon.

“The public will probably pile on,” Rood said. “We’ll be gigantic Giants fans on Sunday.”

Avello opened Giants -1.

“It’s now Cowboys 2 and climbing,” he said. “Which means it may not stop there.”

Las Vegas Hilton Sports Book Executive Director Jay Kornegay opened the Cowboys at -2.

“I think the Giants should be a slight favorite,” Kornegay said. “If you were to say the Cowboys were at home, I can’t see this game being Cowboys at 8 or something, because that’s what it’s telling me.”
