The Griffin chatter scares me far worse than the Manziel rumors.
I can live with Johnny Football. Griffin would make me question my reasons for being a fan.
The Griffin chatter scares me far worse than the Manziel rumors.
Latest Cowboys headlines: Will Cowboys look for a QB in the draft or in free agency? Will Greg Hardy remain a Cowboy? How long will Commanders play their starters?
Monday kicks of mock draft season in earnest. We get a head start with two mock drafts that have the Cowboys picking - you guessed it - a quarterback.
2016 NFL Mock Draft: Why Cowboys should be searching for Tony Romo's successor - Peter Schrager, FOX Sports
Could Jerry Jones and Co. be in the market for a big-arm talent like Memphis QB Paxton Lynch? Peter Schrager says so in his first annual mock draft.
4. Dallas Cowboys: Paxton Lynch, QB, Memphis
Cowboys fans got a glimpse of what life without Tony Romo could be like this season, and it wasn't pretty. No veteran journeyman or practice squad fixture (Kellen Moore) can replace a franchise quarterback. Especially in Big D. Barring a trade (Manziel?) or a notable free-agent acquisition, the Cowboys should look to pick Romo's successor this year. Lynch is 6-foot-7, surprisingly mobile and very accurate. He's a mold of clay, still, and could use a few years of learning from Romo before being elevated to the No. 1.
NFL Draft Mock 2016 - Drafttek.com
Drafttek.com uses a computer program to simulate a 7-round 2016 NFL Mock Draft, and they end up giving the Cowboys the other quarterback.
5. Dallas, Jared Goff, QB, California
Although Dallas has issues other than QB, another FG-only offensive output against Buffalo proves opposing defenses do not respect the Cowboys' passing attack inside the red zone. By the way, did anyone else notice that former Cowboy Brandon Weeden led the Texans to victory with a 34 point offensive output? But I digress . . . it has always been better to develop pro quarterbacks over a couple of years and that may be all Tony Romo has left. Jared Goff compiled a 156.4 passer rating over Cal's 12 games in 2015, highlighted by 64.2 completion percentage, 4,252 yards, 37 TD's, and 13 INT's. Goff's performance in a loss to eventual Pac-12 Champion Stanford may prove to be the tape that scouts utilize in making their case for the tall Bear signal-caller.
Four more months with unending iterations of the two mocks above. Yippee skippee.
Of course, there's always free agency to drive you to the drink as well.

None of them. They aint worth it.
I'd pick Cardele Jones and sit him the first 2 years. And i mean SIT and develop him. Dont let him be your #2 guy. We need to find a good backup QB in the offseason to make this work!
I think we can get him i round 2 or 3.
Just curious, what does everyone think it will cost to get Manziel?
sorry but that guy lost his job to an option QB because he was so inaccurate,he may develop but he isnt worth a 2nd or 3rd RD pick.
He won all of the 11 games he started.
But this pick is not about what he has done. This is what we need, what we dont need and because of that where we can safe pick and do not spend stupidly.
And we are able to give a new player at QB 3 years of development. BEcause we still have a QB who is able to play that long.
So the best right now is to pick a player who has alot of talent but is still raw and needs development. Jones is that type of guy.
Why not draft with intelligence ? Why not draft to our strengths ? Why should we burn a first rounder if that QB is not what we need now (because he will be able to start at a point where we dont need him to start) ? Why not draft what we need and what fits us and safe picks we can spend at positions we are in need of (DT/CB/WR/RB) ?
I actually like Dak Prescott as a 4th rounder. Very raw guy but I think a few years behind Romo can help him.
No thanks drafting a QB in the first round would be one of the dumbest picks this organization has ever made. Sitting behind Romo for another 4 years.
It would be dumb if Romo played another four years. I doubt that he plays another two years and even then, he will stay injured. The dumbest move that this team can make is not to have Romo's replacement drafted and ready to step in.
Very good athelete , but he is not a legit QB prospect. I have watch many of his games and since I live in Mississippi, so I see more coverage than most fans. He is a typical athletic college QB that doesn't have the accuracy or ability to read defenses to even be a quality NFL back-up. He is a fine young man though.
Like drafting a Qb is a sure sign of success. How many QB's have been busts even in the top rounds?
One thing is for sure , the bust rate for QBsvpicked lower in the draft is much higher than the ones picked higher. I don't think s 6th round pick is going to do much if he has to fill in for a injured Romo. Are you suggesting that they wait to Romo retires before drafting a backup with starting talent? Yeah, that is a solid long term plan . Another post-Aikman era is really something to look forward to.
I guarantee you if they sign Griffin, they are not drafting a QB in the first.
In their minds, that signing will be addressing their big hot button issue they said they would do: the backup to Romo.
They are not that gung-ho on throwing that many resources at the position.
Cowboys News & Notes: Paxton Lynch or Jared Goff or RG3?
Omg that scenario would make me soil my shorts.
