It's time.

Today is Year Four, Day One as a Cowboys blogger. I live-tweet every game. I've done a post-game insta-recap article on 95% of the contests. I've filmed dozens of videos and recorded half a hundred audio podcasts. I've interviewed Staubach, Emmitt, Demarcus, Novacek and countless others; all highlights of my fandom.

However, in 1,096 days I've "covered" this team from long distance, I've never once been afforded opportunity to write, film or record anything remotely related to this team and a playoff game.

That's a sad, tragic, heartbreaking sentence to produce, and one that leads me to admitting it may be time for drastic measures.

Bravo to you for this analysis and set of recommendations. I'll need to read it again the process it all, but I can tell you put a ton of time into this and I applaud you for it.

Edit: Just I just reply to some sort of bot? Whoops.

I enjoy reading articles when someone obviously spends a large chunk of time researching, crunching numbers, etc. Well thought out

While I applaud the effort put in to the article, it just seems kinda funny seeing this written about a 7-6 team that controls it's own destiny. Seems more like a plan for the Texans.

Good stuff. And something tells me, that if this did go down, we'd only have to suffer through a season of 7-9 or 8-8. Much more palatable when your rebuilding, instead of keeping the "window" open.

You make a good point.

This season is crazy. You wouldn't expect a team make a real good run at having the worst defense in the history of the NFL to have anything near a winning record -- but the Cowboys do.

I chalk it up to defense not being an essential ingredient during the regular season any more -- see the 2011 Packers who went 15-1 with the 32nd ranked defense and the worst pass defense in the history of the NFL as recent example.

The thing with that Packer team is they were bounced right out of the playoffs when the weather got bad, and their high flying offense couldn't put up 40+ points.

So we are to expect the guy that picked this current roster and put us in this mess to blow it all up and somehow trust him to do it right next time?

Right. You could cut every player but it wont make one bit of difference with jerry jones running the show.

It's not "savings" 3 years down the road. Ideally you'd have replaced all those cuts before 2014 instead of waiting until 2018.

Rebuilding is the quickest and most effective way to becoming contenders again. Doing things the same way will not work.

Uhh yeah. If you haven't noticed, it's the only hope we have as cowboys fans. And I will cling to it.

Jerry will see it the same way. That is why this team has remain in this average rut.

Keep Bruce Carter? Why? So he can rub his lazy, effortless attitude onto other players? No thanks, I'll pass, Carter can hit the door after this year as well.

As for cutting all the other players, I think it's a wait and see approach. It's not like we still don't control our own destiny, so who knows.

Nice work. Would be a great plan for a team that was not led by one of Al Davis' biggest hemorrhoids but since we are stuck with Jerry, we just have to hope we get lucky. Ware will retire a Cowboy mostly likely after at least one more extension. Not only will Witten be here many more years, Dallas will add at least one more TE using a top 4 draft pick. Best hope is for Romo, Ware, Hatcher, Lee, Bryant, Carr and Bailey to have great games all in the same game for 5 games in a row.

The way I see it, this plan would be too painful for Jerry.
He will ride with his veterans untill their wheels fall off.
Now once Romo hits the decline and we start having having losing seasons, the poop is going to hit the fan.
He will probably pull another Parcells type hire and face that we have to start over.
As long as we have a Romo in his prime, which is good for 4 to 6 wins every year, Jerry will be able to put off the inevitable.

Nice plan, but I didn't see anything related to coaching changes. It would make no sense to rebuild keeping one of the worst head coaches in the league. We would end up with a rebuilt team with similar results.
