Who has more power and authority: Stephen or Jerry?
McClay and Vital, Lord willing.

But to answer your question, it's probably 50/50 at this point. Even tho some fans will wax-poetic that "this is Stephen's team."

Jerry is still the captain at the helm. He's been more front and center, lately, too, with all the drama going down.

They really didn't give him the keys to the offense til later in the season in my opinion.

He was more of running the plays that were called earlier, but later he was doing what he does now.
He was definitely learning, no doubt, brother, but he was calling audibles and changing calls at the line in '16 preseason.

I agree that by season's end he was beasting at the line, but it started in his wee days of his career. That's one of the reasons why (most of us) were fawning over him :)

Yeah my main point was it went up as the season went along, while erod asked if Rush could do it immediately, well no......but we really don't need him to do that right now.

Babe said in that piece, NO team in the league would have him as there #2! Where does he get off?? I've grown so tired of this stooge, like he has any clue. Meanwhile in Denver last year and Houston Simien and Savage are starting! Get a clue Babe.....this isn't your NFL anymore!

So Rush got 2nd team reps today. I said cracks in Moore's backup spot would begin to appear this week. I was wrong. Looks like the Grand Canyon just opened up.

Question...

Is Cooper Rush ready to look at a defense, recognize the scheme and blitz, audible out of a bad play call, re-adjust receiver routes, and execute the play in less than 10 seconds at the line of scrimmage?
Yes.

Well Dak didn't do all that last year til towards the end of the season. It was shocking for me to see him doing all that, I even said in chat, 'why is Dak talking so much all of a sudden?'

They would treat Rush just like they treated Dak.
Great perspective.

I don't know why everyone is getting their panties in a wad over this. There are two more games. Kellen and Cooper are both going to get about 3 more quarters of action a piece most likely. Hell, Cooper might get the entire game 5 for all we know.

To play devils advocate, Cooper has only played about a game's worth of snaps so far. Just because he had a good 4 quarters of play doesn't mean he is a viable #2.

Let's see some more. If he continues to shine, he'll win a roster spot.
Cooper will remove all doubt and sew up #2 this week.

Let's do this!

I'm so happy the Cowboys have learned from their errant ways. After seeing Weeden make bone headed plays, and poor throws in the pre-season, and then sticking with him as the backup in 2015, just for it to turn into a disaster. I'm ecstatic Kellen Moore is not getting the same length in that rope, after his dismal performances.

It's great that they're no longer ignoring how a backup performs in the pre-season, as it is very relevant. Churn baby churn! Let's see what Cooper Rush has to offer playing with the #1s and #2s.

There's a lot more to playing quarterback in the NFL than just throwing pretty passes in an organized scrimmage against scrubs.

All of those things can be taught. What cannot be taught: arm strength, accuracy, and pocket presence. Moore lacks those and will never improve.

The gameplan for Moore is easy: bring the S down and blitz the A and B gaps. He melts down under pressure and run blitzing prevents OL from getting to the second level limiting gains in the run game.

Rush has a shot as the season progresses of improving to the point where he can read defenses to the point of stringing together wins. Moore has not won a game in the NFL. When Laufenberg was claiming he was a winner I wanted to reach through the TV and punch him.

That's the thing. @erod makes some great points about the question marks posed by going with Rush as the No. 2.

But we've seen how miserable the Weedens and Moores are/have been -- and even Sanchez. I'd love a Kitna/Orton style backup, but the best comparisons -- Hoyer, McCown -- have starting jobs in SF and NY, respectively.

Well I do think his potential is interesting, we just have to see more of Rush.

I do wonder in the back of my mind what would happen if Dak actually got hurt, hoping not, but then Rush comes in and leads us to a SB.....what would happen then...

Likelyhood is very low of course, but thats how my mind thinks sometimes. I don't see any excuse for us to cut him if he continues to play well at the most important position on the field for someone at a less important position.

Well, Choice did have some intangibles to be a productive back. Not real sure why he failed miserably

I liked him at first too but then again, I did not go shout it from the rooftops either :muttley:

T.O. 's influence on a young Tashard Choice did not help matters much. Not saying he'd be a star but
I wonder how Choice's career would've been with a more positive locker room presence his rookie year
and beyond.

Good point but...

Do we really believe that if Dak gets hurt, Moore will finish our season?
I'm saying there's no way Romo doesn't return this year if Dak has a serious injury.
So, really, the back up QB spot is more for next season than this one. In that case,
you gotta give Cooper Rush a hard look.

Optimally neither. Optimally we would have a stronger backup and could develop Rush in the #3 role to be our long term backup.

However that doesnt seem to be an option at this point without a trade, and Im not willing to sacrifice draft assets for a player we hope never plays ( and most likely wouldnt get us to the playoffs anyways). Rush is the much better option for me
