Yep. The Durant contract was stooped. The Carter contract given by the Bucs was even worse. The Bucs have been especially bad at free agency.

Bad is a serious understatement describing the Buccaneers free-agency failures. We're talking about an utterly imbecilic front office that literally gifted MICHAEL JOHNSON with one of the most profoundly absurd contracts that I have seen in recent memory.

I would love to see Carter brought in as a designated speed rusher. The guy can flat out get after the QB. He get's mixed up when he's asked to do too much, just bring him on 3rd downs and tell him to sack the QB.a nice 1.5 mill/year contract for 2 years.

Other than in Carter's last season (2014) in Dallas he has more interceptions in one season than Mo has had in his entire career.

Cool story bro.
Carter's 5 INT year is pretty sweet. Too bad that's also his career total.

Nice stat though for the goofy people to point too.

Carter hasn't has a single sack the past 2 years. He has 5 in his NFL lifetime.
If you want a 3rd down sack guy add an actual stabd up pass rusher like Bruce Irvin.

NFL.com had him down for 2 last year with the Bucs? As a LB, not sure how many opportunities he got to rush the passer. Not a big deal, but that is how I would slot him going forward if I were to take him.

On the other, like what I see in Bruce Irvin also, hoping for bigger things from him next season.

Agreed. That's why he seemed to excel at SAM instead of WILL. Give him one job, don't let him have to read too much. Blitz a gap or drop back in coverage.

His best stretch of his career by far was the small stretch where he played MIKE for an injured Sean Lee in 2014. Tampa not surprisingly signed him to play MLB.

At SAM teams found a way to get him matched up 1 v 1 in coverage versus quick RBs and he failed miserably.
Carter was moved to MLB after Kwon won MLB easily... and he spent the season as a back up SAM.

Not sure there is a role for Carter in Dallas unless they want him as starting MLB.
But the issue is I am not sure he can beat out Hitchens, much less a possiby re-signed Ro.

Again, the far better signing would be Durant as LB4 since he has the ability to fill all 3 positions well but just can't play 16 (and perhaps not even 12) games.

If you're talking about the last year in the 3-4 at inside lb, yeah that would be his best stretch. The light had turned on at that point. The new defense set him back.

I know he gets a lot of hate but would like Carter back. He led the team with interceptions his last season and was the most reliable LB.

Bring him in, shouldn't cost to much and let him compete

I would bring him in as well. He's a good special teams player. For the most part, I think the SAM position is his position to play and when he went to the Bucs, Lovie tried him at the WILL and he couldn't get it. I would have zero issue with bringing him in cheap.

Rob Ryans last year was 2012. It was Carter's 2nd year and he played only 11 games. He had only 51 tackles with no sacks or INTs.

Carter has been in a 4-3 since 2012. 2013 was actually better. He started 13 games and made 20 more tackles and a couple sacks.
He looked like a force with nearly 100 total stops. Being in a 4-3 is better for him, not worse.

2014 he had those INTs and played REALLY well for a stretch but lost his job and was really bad at times as well. We made no effort to keep him in free agency.

He went to Tampa and couldn't win any of the 3 LB jobs. They are cutting their losses and dumping him.

I think he is back up MLB and special teamer. He's maybe a 1.5m a year guy.
But I don't see us being the fit.

Carter lead the team in INTs when he played primarily the SAM in 2014. Ro was the MLB in 2015 AND 2014. Carter took over from Lee at MIKE in 2013.

Why on earth would they cut a talented, young, athletic LBer with experience in multiple schemes?

Yes, And it was 2013 which was Carter's best season by far. ~100 total tackles and a promising future.
In 2014 that was just my clerical error... he was benched, all the excitement for his (now so meaningful) INTs not withstanding.
He was benched then not resigned. Calling that his best year is a fallacy on every level.
Dallas literally didn't want him back at SAM in 2015.

He moved to Tampa but lost MLB and SAM jobs in training camp.
He started 3 games after Kwon was injured and the Bucs gave up over 31 PPG in that stretch.

People arguing he should be brought back as a starting SAM are just wrong.
As NFL teams will show this off-season and he wills how next season again on the field.

Never said he should be brought back, I agreed that he plays best when his assignments and responsibilities are simplified.
