The longer this draws out, as Laws options dry up as they ARE! Our chance's of landing a Parcells player go up day by day...

Who's to say he doesn't have a call into Parcells and a chance to match beat all offers? And there are no offers of substance so far!

I admire your fortitude, but it is over.

Wouldn't argue with you but for one thing...Law isn't a FS! He never said he'd even play the position.

He wants a big contract which Dallas won't be giving him. To make matters worse, his foot is still a problem. There are no offers of substance so far because he STILL can't pass a physical.

He's a CB who wishes to remain a CB. He's not in our plans....

Law will sign with a team from either the AFC South...INDY...or West...OAK. Teams that play them twice need at least 3 starting quality corners.

Ty Law

By Todd Korth , packrepted@aol.com
Date: Jul 1, 2005

The longer Ty Law remains unsigned, the better the chances are for the Green Bay Packers to obtain the perennial All-Pro cornerback. Law has negotiated with a handful of teams this off-season, but is seeking a multi-million-dollar contract, despite the fact that he is coming off of foot surgery. So far, he has come up empty-handed, and that's good for the Packers.

The Packers are in need of help at cornerback opposite Al Harris. Ahmad Carroll and Joey Thomas will be battling for a starting job in training camp, but Law is head and shoulders better than either of those two second-year players.

Plus, Green Bay’s depth at cornerback is shallow at best. Jason Horton, Mike Hawkins and Chris Johnson are in line to play behind Harris, but all three have been bothered by injuries. Horton had chest surgery in late March for sarcoidosis, the same ailment that contributed to Reggie White’s death in December. Hawkins tore cartilage in his knee in late May and had arthroscopic surgery. Johnson has been bothered by a stress fracture in his leg, and has yet to play a down in the last two seasons because of injuries. Rookie free agents Patrick Dendy and Leigh Torrence have a good chance of making the team because of the injury history to the other backup cornerbacks.

Does this mean the depth is sufficient at that position? Not unless the Packers can obtain a top cornerback like Law. With Law, even for one season, the Packers can continue to work with Carroll and Thomas. Both cornerbacks had trouble keeping their hands off receivers last season and were often flagged. Judging from their performances in minicamps this off-season, their progress is questionable because both are still grabbing receivers beyond the no-chuck zone.

Law, 31, would give the Packers’ defense instant stability in the backfield. Jim Bates’ defense demands one-on-one coverage from the cornerbacks. Wth an inconsistent pass rush, the Packers have to have reliable cornerbacks.

Law’s price tag has continued to drop since he turned down a contract extension offered by the New England Patriots in 2004 that included $16 million in guaranteed money. Law wanted more, and the Patriots said, ‘forget it.’ Law subsequently suffered a left foot injury last October that has required surgery.

Law has drawn interest by a number of teams, but he inexplicably has continued to turn down some big offers. Kansas City, Jacksonville and Detroit entertained the idea of signing Law to a long-term deal this off-season, but he has yet to agree on anything. Law visited Jacksonville last week and left without a contract. Kansas City is still interested, though, they traded for former Dolphins cornerback Patrick Surtain earlier this off-season, so their interest has cooled.

"Before they signed Surtain, the Chiefs gave me, like, a $42 million offer,” Law says. “But it was structured so bad that I'd probably only make $10 million before they'd cut me. So I didn't do it."

The Lions signed former Chicago Bears cornerback and return specialist R.W. McQuarters to a $1.6 million deal. McQuarters is no where near the same level as Law, but if Law’s stock continues to drop, his salary might be the same as McQuarters next season. He is basically on sale right now at a summer-clearance price. The Packers would be foolish not to pursue the 11th-year pro. "If healthy, Ty Law is still one of the best cornerbacks in the game," Browns head coach and former New England defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel said. The Packers have been very quiet this off-season in free agency. They are about $6 million under the salary cap, and could clear more cap space by releasing Cletidus Hunt. Signing Law definitely gives the team a better chance to win.

I will. I don't think there's a snowball's chance in hell and I have outlined why several times. Recap...

1. He is a CB not a FS.

2. He wants a lot of money. Contrary to popular belief a substantial offer was made and he rejected it because it was not enough. He said within the last 2 weeks that he thinks he deserves to be the highest paid CB in the NFL.

3. His agents are still the Postons and Bill Parcells was adamant that he does not want to deal with them.

4. There has not been an article anywhere with Dallas showing interest. In fact when asked directly about it Mickey Spagnola shot it down.

Wishful thinking is good, but it won't help this get done. It will never happen.

Funny how Nors continually shot down the proposed Darren Howard trade from start to finish, yet we keep hearing about Ty Law. At least the Howard trade was actually being discussed by the teams involved.

I agreed with Nors about Howard for the most part, but there is nothing to substantiate any prediction Dallas would even consider signing Ty Law. He's a CB, not a FS. He wants huge money that Dallas isn't willing to offer him. His agents are the Postons. Law is 31, has a serious foot injury, and can't pass a physical. His foot is such a problem, he needs nothing short of a miracle to be ready for the opener. In fact, he's got Oral Roberts' phone number on speed dial.

Maybe Nors should take his own advice, break out that Van Halen album (5150), and listen to the song "Dreams" a few times. :D

If Law had any chance of coming to Dallas, the call from Law to Parcells or vice versa has already been made. Parcells has been known to call his guys directly. If he wants Law on team, he'll try and circumvent dealing with Poston's, drawing up parameters of the contract with Law.

I think the call was already made to establish Laws health, role on the team and contract parameters, should the market not prove lucrative for Law, hopefully he'll become another Parcell guy to join the team.

I don't see why Law can't make the transition to FS. His game is very similar to Rod Woodson and Anease Williams. Infact Ty Laws scouting reports leading up the 1995 draft frequently compared his style to Rod Woodson style. A physical CB that loves contact and is great in run support. No surprise Parcells selected him when their were more sexy picks like Devin Bush, Corey Fuller and Craig Newsome in the same draft.

I think if healthy Ty Law can make the transition to FS, but if he can get CB money................I agree with Nors though, the more teams drop out of the Law sweeptakes the more likely he'll realize his days as being considered a top CB are done and he'll fit in right in with star on his helmet in our secondary.

I have zero doubt Law would come play FS for us and play it at a Pro Bowl level this year provided we gave him 20 million dollars. From a pure football standpoint there's little doubt he's physical enough or quick enough or a good enough tackler: JUST that he may not be ehealthy enough. Thats a big if.

Law is Izell Reese times 2.5; but he wants Reese times 3.5 salary and that would be hard to cough up considering other DB investments.

The Postons need superstar clients because they aren't gonna get any buddy deals. If Law was represented by Sexton who got Dallas first crack at some other guys we might be willing to overpay the guy as a favor. No one is doing the Postons any favors anymore than anyone in baseball doing a favor for Boras: the great satan of baseball to most GMs/Owners.
