i agree... to a point.

brees and big ben have been hurt, and those teams still have no idea whether they have their heir apparent.

also, just because you draft a qb in the first round, it doesn't mean you've got a good one. ask cleveland.

there wasn't a whole lot that dallas could have done over the past year to guarantee what you want them to be able to guarantee -- which is either that romo will never get hurt again, or that a qb they brought in was going to be The One.

in the meantime, they have added what appear to be good players at a number of positions.

Nice reply...and I loved Tony Dorsett.

All added to DL in the last 2 years: Collins, J. Crawford, Gregory, Irving, DLaw, Mayowa, T. McClain, Okoye, Russell, Tapper, Thornton. They may not be as established as the OL but that looks like a pretty big commitement to me.

Good post, Big Dog...I agree. And, I like their product...

Not so fast...age with Roethlisburger, Brees, and Brady?
Those QBs have won 7 Super Bowls between them. They aren't in the same boat as us in what we are trying to accomplish in present and future. Those teams are going to be ok when those guys move on because the franchise won. They will reset and rebuild
We have a team that hasn't won in over 20 years with a borderline hall of fame QB. It seems we will be resetting and starting over if and when Romo goes down most likely with out the sniff of a ring

That's what stings

This is a QB Driven league and guys like Romo are hard to replace

Maybe but when faced with the prospect of not bringing back Hardy from a team that couldn't get to the QB to being with, bringing in a Mayowa and Tapper and Russell (off the practice squad) isn't exactly a "commitment" to a real problem. It's an attempt to fix a problem on the cheap.

I hope to hell it works out. But if come end of the year we have the same problems along the defensive front, it will be pretty obvious as to why they continued.

To me it looks like the Cowboys are showing up to a $1000 buy in poker game with $1001. Sure, it could work out but you've left yourself no room for error.

Sort of, the team was also without Dez Bryant and Orlando Scandrick...

With those two maybe we win 6 games.

Romo makes this entire machine go. That should be obvious to anyone who is actually paying attention to Cowboys football.

There are some hits and some misses.

What I think we have struggled with is knowing when to take a chance and what kind of guy is worth taking a chance on. We have our typical reach for a TE. Taking a risk on a druggie. Using a first rounder on a position that isn't considered a high priority in today's NFL. Taking a guy at the top of the second that likely won't play for us this year and there is no guarantee he will ever be able to play.

Given the fact that in most cases the reaches never seem to work, whether from a draft or free agent standpoint, we should probably shy away from the risk taking and continue to play the steady hand. We have a pretty decent corps of young to middle aged players. Guys that will be solid for another 5 years. We obviously have to consider making the investment in a QB high in the draft. Hopefully Jones locks down the safety spot and Claiborne turns into the corner we thought we were getting. If those two pan out, and we get a healthy Smith next year, we could have a really solid team for Romo to finish his career with or a young QB to develop behind.

Ahhh, we have a pretty good idea of what this team looks like without Romo.

You're showing your lack of knowledge again. We have a good idea of how last years team looks, not this years.
