not better than jimmy, but better than anyone since.

dez, tyron smith, frederick, martin, even zeke and smith -- those are long-term investments.

one can knock the reliance on romo (seriously, who wants to stick with the qb with the third highest rating in history,
amirite?), but the quincy-henson-hutchinson carousel is over
. johnny football isn't here, and that's a fantastic thing.

just because we haven't won it all doesn't nean that there aren't positives. of course there are negatives, too. but optimism alone is not equivalent to blind homerism.

Going to quibble with this. Yes, we have Romo but the Cowboys are trying to sell Showers, Moore and Prescott as legitimate options. That's exactly the same as Quncy-Henson-Hutchinson when one realizes Romo has a pretty short shelf life of a few years.

So your predication is we could be good or bad?

Pretty much. There are way too many questions on this team, especially the defense, to really get a good feel how good this team is. Frankly, if not for the fact the offense has a chance to be really good, we could be talking about another 4 win season.

What's it going to be then, eh?

Because you can't see the changes taking place over the last few years that are setting the team up for consistent success.

Other than finally figuring out that the OL has been a problem and committing to fix it, where are the rest of these "changes"?

Have they bothered to do the same with other bad areas of the team?

To me, it seems business as usual otherwise.

Sorry, but not all of us...I was an instructor during a period of my service. Kids do become soldiers, and not all from high points in the past. Forged in fire...

They brought in Mayowa, Irving seems to be making huge strides, and they drafted DT, DE, and CB in the draft. What else do you want? Rounds 1-7 all on defense? Elliott was the must pick after Bosa went. Ramsey over Elliott makes no sense to me. Counting on McFadden to stay healthy again, and Morris to replicate form isnt a good policy. If we had signed Miller, then by all means, DEFENSE first 2nd third and 4th. Jaylon Smith is also a stud, and IF he plays again, which i think he will, we will have yet again the steal of the draft. Just like Collins last year.

Mayowa is a total question mark. Why do people keep listing him as if he's some proven pass rushing end we added? He's an athletic DE who has shown nothing in his first few years in the league but we are taking a risk on that we might be able to develop.

Also, they drafted a CB in the 6th round. Odds are if he develops, it will be as a nickle or dime CB, not as a starting CB that solves our CB problems.

You hope that Mayowa becomes a stud. You hope that Brown is so good he puts Claiborne on the bench. But are those really realistic conclusions at this point?

My 1st post on the fan forum.
To be sure there has been some improvement in the draft. A great job building the best offensive line in the NFL. A true commitment to rely much less on free agency and more on building from the inside out through the draft.
But this will only get you so far when you throw away your 2nd round pick 7 or 8 times out of 10.

When your defense has obvious, huge needs and you use your first two picks on a running back and a linebacker who won't play this year?

Sorry, I'm not seeing what you're seeing. But hope springs eternal I guess.
I understand, we will see how that pans out. But please talk to me if it does, I have to admit it confused me in the 2nd round bro.

The "you started it" defense. :D

I made you do it.

I thank you for the congratulations. Very nice of you.

If that's where you get your kicks, starting arguments while pointing fingers, you accomplished everything you set out to do.

Take the continual Jerry rants to the right part of this site...

Maybe you need to learn the difference between a 'comment' and a 'rant'? And welcome back from your latest 'time out'.

Two undrafted free agents is now something to point to as an accomplishment? How low does your bar go?

They had the opportunity to truly help their defense - this year - in the draft and instead chose to draft a running back and a player who won't play this year.

Only difference is they got Collins for nothing and he was ready to play from day one, but other than that, sure.

They had the #4 leading rusher in the league last year, despite a late start and poor scheme fit. And they added a multi-time 1,000 yard back and Pro Bowler to the mix. Elliott was far from any "must pick". It was a luxury pick, given the quality of the offensive line. And one that has to produce ridiculous numbers to show it was ever worth it.

Del Rio wasnt happy about losing Mayowa, and that man knows his defensive players if anything. And do you remember where sherman was drafted? Hes been ballhawking in camp, and has turned a lot of heads. I dont know why people continue to use where someone is drafted against them. Its just my opinion.

So you are hoping McFadden stays healthy? He couldnt even make it through the offseason without an injury. And morris who has been declining every year. Cool. behind this line Morris will do well, but no where near what Elliott can do. Also, McFadden had how many yards last year? Awesome. How many touchdowns did he have again? La'el Collins out ran him, sure, lets count on him to lead our rushing attack.

Thing is I dont think Jerry feels hes selling as much as I think Jerry believes in his special sauce.

I completely agree. Its like the Cowboys are being run by an overzealous HOMER. You cant be a good GM of a good analyzer of your team or its chances if your mindset is that the glass is always full. Or even half full for that matter.

We all sure hope for that. For the young man, for the team, for the owner, for us fans. But it was a curious move given the circumstances and I don't think it's out of bounds to question it considering where we're at defensively.
