I think my advice is short and sweet for Jerry Jones, who, according to Chris Mortensen of ESPN, is pondering trading up to get the first pick in the draft so he can take Arkansas running back Darren McFadden.

Don't even consider making such a foolish trade. That's right. It's foolish. Never, ever, ever, ever pay a ransom for a running back. They're too plentiful and too easy to find down the line, and too easy to make a mistake picking. As the Bears have proven (Curtis Enis, Rashaan Salaam, Cedric Benson in the first round between 1995 and 2005), picking backs is a dartboard science.

In the last two years, eight backs drafted after the first round have gained 1,200 yards -- Frank Gore, Tiki Barber, Willie Parker, Rudi Johnson, Brian Westbrook, Chester Taylor, Travis Henry and Clinton Portis. The Giants picked up Ryan Grant off the street, and he just helped win a playoff game for Green Bay against Seattle.

And to think of including restricted free-agent Marion Barber III in the deal ... lunacy. Pure and simple. Barber's a top-10 NFL running back right now (the only reason he might not be in the top five is he hasn't proven he can carry it 20 times a game every week; he's had 339 carries over the past two years). Under no circumstances should he be dealt. If I'm Bill Parcells and can give you the first pick in the draft for Barber and first- and second-round picks, I make that trade this morning.

I wonder if any of this is true on what the boys would offer. Maybe MBIII wants way more than Dallas wants to pay him. I just have this feeling that Parcells would make Jerry look like a fool.

Man I hate agreeing with The Peter King. :bang2: :bang2: :bang2:

We don't need McFadden. Save our picks and use them wisely, get good value for them and solid players. No reaches, no project players.

As much as I like McFadden, the skunk makes excellent points here. This team is not a RB away from the SB. I can see trading up a few spots though.

I think we already have our RB for the next few years.

All we need is better depth and variety.

He is absolutely right.

there is absolutely no reason, no logic and would be no forgiving Jerry and the rest of the front office if they were to do that.

Guys on this team look to barber for a spark. I am going to keep repeating this, we need a vet rb who could play multiple roles in a pinch...stecker type....a young runner who can run and catch. Dont fall in love with speed, we just need another good runner who has the ability to take the ball as many times as you can give it to him. Speed would be fantastic, to have a guy with sproles type speed, but I would prefer another good running back over just a fast player.

I would also love to see us find a way on the second day of the draft to get a hester or schmidt, OS could block, play special teams, catch the ball out of the backfield and who knows what else. He seems like the prototypical parcells-belichick type of player. That would give us to fb's who could catch and block. Plus schmidt could spell fasano.

That would give us serious youth and talent at rb, fb and te.

RBs- Marion Barber, Draft Pick..(choice, mendenhall, slaton??), Veteran
FBs- Deon anderson, Owen schmidt
TEs-Jason witten, Anthony Fasano and Tony Curtis.

Throw in the youth on the line with the guys drafted last year and Tony Romo would be only needing the influx of wr to have a plethora of talent available on offense, coupled with a very good offensive coaching staff. Can only lead to good things.

and the best part. No trading draft picks, no getting cute. No major hit to the cap. Just status quo and using your leverage in the draft to bring in good young players.

now, As I have said a bunch of times, I know very little about this draft class right now. I am trying to catch up but I am still way behind. I am not even sure what round Schmidt is being projected to.

It is just the way I would go. The only trade I would make is if you could get wr roy williams for one draft pick, just one. other than that free agency doesnt interest me that much, unless one of the corners sneaks through and is available. That is something you have to think about.

Me and Peter King on the same page?

~Checks out the window for snow in case hell is freezing over.~

He is right on the :money: IMO. I love McFadden, but he is not worth all that it would take to get him.

Wow, Peter, you're a genius. Who else would realize that Barber plus a first and second would be stupid?

I think half these stories -- no, way more than half -- are just written to make Jerry look like a fool. I mean, where has it EVER been reported that Jerry would even consider offering such a high price to do this?

Nowhere, that's where. It's all pure speculation. But it's funny how the speculation is always swayed to make Jerry look like a bumpkin.

Need a running back? How about a Eric Metcalf type back? Draft Chris Johnson as a 3rd down back. Explosive first step, high top speed, elusive, can run, can receive, and is a kick returner. Teach him to not try and jump over people all the time to prevent injuries.

I was just watching a segment on ESPN's First Take-they said that ultimately, the Fins LIKELY WON'T trade their 1st round pick b/c the likes of Glen Dorsey will be off the board early if they do indeed try to trade down.

Again-this trade ain't happening.

I disagree. The Fin's need fresh talent. Will they take Dorsey? Yes, but if they could rangle a boat load of picks (especially first round picks) it will happen. If Jerry offered both of this years picks and next year's #1, they would jump all over it.

Of course that would be absolutely stupid. One pick in my eyes, just isn't worth three first rounders. The draft is a teams life-blood. If you drain that blood away, you will wither and die with a very expensive unproven player.

But Dorsey, Long, et al will be LONG gone by the time #22 comes around(assuming there's a trade between us).

Anyone with a brain realizes that giving up Barber is not going to happen.

But for all the press the Patriots passing offense receives, the speed Maroney provides at the RB position is invaluable. When teams defend the deep pass and give the Pats the run, Maroney makes them pay. His speed to the corner and his ability to hit the hole fast is deadly.

We don't have that type of back. If Jerry did move up and get McFadden and still kept Barber we could have an offense that could be unstoppable. Plain and simple, McFadden in an offense adds firepower like no one else out there outside of Moss and Peterson.

There are no restrictions on front office staff like there is with the coaching staff which only accounts for coaches moving to head coaching positions I believe.

I believe Ireland was under contract, so Jones did infact let him go.

An absolutely insane trade.

I still think Felix Jones will end up being the better all around back than Mr. "Chicken Legs."
