I officially would like to propose trading Martellus Bennett for draft picks. The guy under performs and seriously lacks the work ethic and attitude from what I've seen. For most of the season I've put all the criticism about Bennett aside hoping that the guy would perform on the field but it's not there. I'm watching the Cowboys Hard Knocks from the 2008 season and his work ethic on that show is garbage and I doubt he's changed.... I say get a 2nd rounder for him or something.

The story that the Bengals offered a 1st rounder for Bennett is pure rumor, it has never been verified by anyone. All we know is that the Bengals offered a trade to Dallas and Bennett was part of the trade deal.

We have Jason Witten and now John Phillips, between Bennett and Phillips we have the best chance to get a good pick by trading Bennett. The guy was a huge disappointment this past season and Phillips outplayed him. My current TE depth chart:
1) Jason Witten
2) John Phillips
3) Martellus Bennett

Love MartyB cause he's hilarious but the guy isn't performing and apparently the work effort is there. Ownership has noticed it as has the coaching staff, the guy needs to concentrate on his game instead of his persona.

Bennett did the dirty work this season, that was his assignment.. plain and simple. Garretts' scheme didnt include Bennett in the passing game, he was an extra OL for the most part.

We saw what happened when Bennett was sent out in route against the Vikings,,, Columbo got abused.

Its just my belief, but I dont think Im going out on a limb when I say that as this OL improves over the next couple seasons, so will Bennetts role on this team, as a pass catching option, and Red Zone target.

When he becomes a viable Red Zone target and has a role on third and long, all the Bennett haters will be re-evaluating his value.

ok, you say get a 2nd rounder....which team is willing to do it? bennett is talented. yet his head is the problem. everyone knows that. I think last year they kept the foot on his throat and he performed. they thought he might have matured a bit, and pulled back a bit and he regressed.


I agree that he is a high maintenance player and he is a back up at the end of the day. but if you are going to propose, at least be realistic as to who will be willing to pay a 2nd rounder, specially now that he is a proven under performer? I say we need to keep the foot on the throat during next year's camp, get him to perform in preseason, show case him a little and then trade him.

plus, lets not under value his blocking skills. he did excel in that department and at times ever better than witten. and we better be damn sure that phillips can give us what we expect and not trying to click our heels wishing he was something based on a one game performance

What makes you think he underperforms, watching the games on TV?

What coaches have commented he lacks work ethic?

My point is you draw many conclusions without my evidence. Perhaps it's your perception of Marty that needs re-evaluated.

BTW Hard Knocks was a year and a half ago already.

It was Jerruh that flat out said he needed to concentrate on his game. I really doubt that he would have said that if he had not also gotten that kind of feedback from the coaches.

the other funny thing is that we had our best passing season ever. one of the best rushing seasons ever....so how many balls were there for him? the 22 formation was really successful, and a lot of it was because of him and his blocking.
