I hate hand-picked statistics like this.

So the Buffalo Bills' secondary was Jairus Byrd and nobody else? No pass rush, nothing. Just him in coverage by himself against spread formations? Stephon Gilmore didn't do anything for them?

These kind of stats are stupid. Plain and simple. They pander to the Madden/fantasy football fans and its a travesty that the game has been reduced from an 11-on-11 battle of teams to fans quoting individual statistics on Twitter.

If this is the case, then why didn't the Eagles go to the Super Bowl with Nnamdi Asomugha?

now he might be another Nmadi in that there were easier targets to throw at and when he is actually targeted seriously he might not be as good. But you never know.

I've brought this up in another thread but in my opinion at age 27 and with our needs Jarius Byrd is the
one Free Agent the Boyz need to target along with Henry Melton. If we could possibly sign one or both
and with a solid first 3 rounds of good Defensive picks our Defense could be retooled very quickly. I
believe with a few restructures and on the basis the Salary Cap will increase the next 2 years this can
be done but we probably need to cut Ware and Austin and take DE, DL and OL with first 3 picks.

His tag is only for 8.3m and that is after a 20% bump for tagging him last year. Why would they offer 10m a year to a safety, but not tag him again? He could hold out, but the fines add up quick and if he misses the season, he loses a lot more than he gains in the long run.

Just told that Bills have chosen not to use the franchise tag on Byrd. He's a free agent.

Byrd would be a great signing but sadly our cap position is not where it needs to be putting us out of the running.

Sure we can make some room and squeeze him in but you are robbing Peter to pay Paul etc.

If they want to sign Byrd, here is a way to make it work. Give him 6yr/50m with 15m signing bonus and 24m guaranteed.

Year Salary Bonus Restructure Cap Hit
2014 1m 3m 4m
2015 8m(1.5m) 3m 1.3m 5.8m(restrucutred)
2016 3m 3m 1.3m 7.6m
2017 5m 3m 1.3m 9.3m
2018 8m 3m 1.3m 12.3m
2019 10m 1.3m 11.3m

Byrd can be signed but it would take just over half of the cap room expected to be freed up by expected restructures and cuts. Jerry would need to give him a pretty significant signing bonus but he's never been afraid to do that. I'd do it, he's legit and exactly what this Secondary needs. Of course we would need to draft 2 maybe 3 defensive lineman but we should be doing that anyway. His presence would improve Mo's and Carr's play for sure (IMO).

Yup. He's a special talent, he might be a better CB than he is a FS.

He was in college. The Ducks had TJ Ward, Patrick Chung, Byrd, and Walter Thurmond III that year. Byrd was a team player and slid over to CB due to injuries.

And he did a damn good job. He's been an exciting player to watch in the pros, the Bills just have a way of pissing off their elite players.

Gotta admit, this guy has a point. I predict the bidding on Byrd will be from quite a few teams, including the Cowboys. He will get bid up to about 12 million a year, over 30 guaranteed, and we will back out. That's my prediction.

I don't think this team values the safety position near enough to spend big money. They have been trying to get by on the cheap for years since Woody and the one time they spent some case on Hamlin they did not get the return they wanted.

When you combine how Jones was burned by both Hamlin and Sensabaugh along with how historically people like Kiffin and Marinelli have viewed the position, this signing is quite unlikely.

Sensabaugh didn't really burn the Cowboys. It was a pretty fair deal all around. Average pay for an average player.
