The fact he was moved around so much last year was a red flag to me.

Its difficult as a rookie to learn one position but this team had him playing like 4?

That tells me the coaches had a problem.

Or the player had a problem.

Nowhere else on the team have we moved a rookie around so much.

Not in the OL..

not in the running backfield..

not with the WR corp.

So it needs watching..

he needs to make some plays to justify his draft position.

He can't just be a JAG

Yeah, it's not like there were no injuries in the secondary.

Or safeties that couldn't cover.

And other than S and CB, what were the other positions? I hope you don't mean LC, RC, SS and FS. Because DB swap from side to side all the time . . .

Subpackage CBs tend to move around alot. Then they pulled the plug on Wilcox. Him moving around is a non story IMO

The people on this forum are ridiculous in their defense of professional athletes who don't contribute at their positions. It's always an excuse for them.

Byron Jones is just another guy and has yet to make a single impact play in his time here.

Its a fair question to ask. In 16 games he hasnt flashed a whole lot of playmaking potential. You dont draft a DB in the first round solely to stick TE's. This could very well be a case of fans falling in love with his measurables and it never translates to on field production.

The guy is in his 1st game in his second year playing on a defense that everyone acknowledges has the worst defensive line in the league. 1 real LBer, a complete bust at one CB spot, another CB that found his first interception in years this week, and a slot corner who played half a game and pulled up lame......

And yet we are such experts on the play of Safeties that we should be concerned about Byron Jones.

i guess he hasn't become Ed Reed or Kam Chancellor yet. But we don't have the Ravens or Seahawks defense yet either.

The guy isn't a problem. He is one of the few reasons for hope on a hopeless defense.

The fact that he comes out for Wilcox and is essentially in a rotation with him at safety? How about no interceptions in his career yet?

Are we looking at a possible bust here?

I did see him covering the slot a bit , I just need someone to reassure me because it is concerning.
Crazy question given the fact that all rookies should be given, at a minimum, two full years before being truly evaluated at the NFL level.

That said, if we were never concerned about Morris Claiborne (who took forever & a day to just become serviceable), there should be no concern at this point for Jones.

I think it's too early to be worried.

Last year he was shuffled back and forth, due to lack of depth and he was seen more as an athlete than a stud football player.

Let him gel/get comfortable in one spot.

I am concerned, yes.

Has all the talent. And the intangibles. Unfortunately, it may take more time to put it together

It's the guy's 1st season playing that position full time (one game in, mind you) and you've got people ready to jump off the cliff over that? Really? ****, come on man.
Read some of the posts some of the time,
All of the posts none of the time,
And none of the posts most of the time.

That's what I do:thumbup:

Was he out for Wilcox? I thought he was up at the line while Wilcox was deep.

Too early to tell.

I thought he played really well last year.

Something about that Cowboy uniform causes DBs to not make plays.

I missed the game on Sunday.

Was he beaten deep?
Did he take bad angles?
Did he miss tackles? Blow assignments?

If the answer is "no, but he didn't cause a fumble or intercept a pass," then no, I'm not worried.

Yes
Yes
Not that I could tell, but he made 1 tackle .

I love the vitriol because I am asking a question of a first rounder who hasn't made a play in his career.

To early to tell on Jones.

I do know that most of us did not have Dallas taking him in the 1st round.
I think two on the radar were DE Preston Smith and , cough-cough, DE Randy Gregory.
Smith would have been a great add (8 sacks as a rookie) while Gregory, a full round earlier than Dallas took him, would have been a total disaster.
