Not at all. He caught a lot of heat here last season, meanwhile he was one of the best things about our secondary last season. At least IMO

He's not horrible. He's the reason why Cook was open on the final play. His athleticism doesn't show up on the field. He's kind of just there.

He's great at covering tight ends, but has a lot of work to do to be an NFL safety.

I have seen some articles that are not from a Dallas based media who also think he is better than the fan base thinks he is as well.

I would love to see what he could do on a team that has a good established Pass rush and a secondary that stays healthy and productive enough that he is not asked to play different positions.

I think he is much better than much of our fan base thinks.

With that said...I think he would be much better with better players surrounding him.

It's relative. He'd be considered "pretty good" if he was drafted in the 4-7 rounds.

But as a 1st round pick, he's been lackluster. No ball skills whatsoever. Super athletic and smart, but not living up to the standard set by his draft position.

If he shows no improvement next year as far as being more instinctive and becoming more of a game-changer, I'd probably not offer him a second contract.

I get what you're saying, but I think that's only justifying his mediocrity.

With great, or even really good players, their skills and abilities show on the screen, no matter the talent they're surrounded by. Just think Romo before we built the offensive line up.

If he was as good as some say, Jones would be much more noticeable out there.

I notice him quite a bit. They manned him up all the time and his range from midfield to the sideline. It was his first year there. He's jsut scratching the surface.

I don't disagree that he gets a lot of unnecessary flak but couldn't what you said be applied to all players? Of course if BJ was playing with better players he would be better.

Jones was also a big reason why the corner play improved so much. A FS that can help over the top allows corners to play the underneath stuff. Coverage in the middle of the field was better than I had seen it since the 90s.

Hes the reason Cook was open? Rodgers made a throw that only he can make, after being forced out of the pocket and Jones took the other man. Yeah, lets put the whole play on him.

I'd like to see him start putting the athleticism to use a little more and become a playmaker, but that's what separates the solid guys from the great ones. I think this is the year that we'll truly be able to determine whether or not he can be that guy now that he's got a full year at the position exclusively under his belt.

But to answer the question, no, he's not a bad safety as is.

Only one of those is a FS that got man call after man call. Playing off man coverage without help --Church is not help-- is a tough row to hoe.

All the other players are not getting as much praise by NFL commentators during games like He is.

For those that only focus on the other players around him part of my post...please do not conveniently dismiss those who call the game and talk about his play and others in the NFL who have done so as well.
