Thank you for the Videos
What I see is UCONN most times left him on an Island one on one with the WR.
Very few times in Zone.
You could tell when UCONN was in Zone as Jones shifted his body position to look into the backfield.
One v one he is square and right on the line.
The other teams seemed to stay away from his player. Not all the time but enough to notice.
May need work on getting off WR blocks.

Well...atleast the secondary got an upgrade in the smarts department.

Let's be honest, Mo Claiborne is a few pennies short of a nickle.

:45 Jones is about to get beaten on the inside slant, but the pass is tipped. I like how Jones tackled him after the tip. Good awareness.

The QB didn't get the ball out early enough for that route because he had to take an extra step back due to the pass rush. If he'd actually got the ball out in time, Jones would have been in perfect position to step in front of the route and make the INT. But Jones couldn't impede the route so he had to fall in behind the receiver and when he did so he was basically laying on top of the receiver's back. Absolutely perfect coverage by Jones on that route.

2:06 Jones never turns his head around. This is PI in the NFL.
You mean turning his head around like this? (This is the replay of the play you're talking about.) In no way did he commit PI on that play.

3:34 He stays with his man for a full 5 seconds, which is impressive, but you notice, he has his hand grabbing the guy's waist at all times. This is defensive holding in the NFL. Seriously, he held his jersey for a full 5 seconds and then pushes off and intercepts a terrible prayer of a pass.
Not sure what you're talking about here. That was a quick out to the opposite side. Jones never even touches a receiver in that play.

Any games against real teams?

ECU probably had one of the better Passing games in the country. Two of those guys will be drafted and one is the NCAAs all-time leading WR in catches. He ate up next year's top returning CB (Florida Gators kid).
No need to be a dick

Umm.. After watching the "highlights" some really think that he can cover Megatron? I must have seen a different video than those who suggested that. I guess time will tell but on the bright side at least we didn't trade up for him.

Agree...........

Stayed up late watching his tape vs E. Carolina

oh boy.....I hope we plan on playing him as a FS because I don't see CB skills. Plays way too high in his back pedal. Would have given up huge chunks of yards had E.Carolina's QB put the ball where it should have been thrown.

Noticed he got away w/ alot of hand checking. Don't think he will get away w/ that on this level. I can see him getting a rep pretty quickly. Hopefully he isn't a penalty machine.

Great pick for us.. Jones is the best pure cover cb in this draft. Hes a good tackler, not a big hitter and im fine with that.

Let's look at the plays Jones was involved in.

:30 Jones is beaten off screen on a comeback route. Would have been a bigger gain if the QB releases the ball earlier.
:45 Jones is about to get beaten on the inside slant, but the pass is tipped. I like how Jones tackled him after the tip. Good awareness.
1:15 Jones is beaten downfield, but the QB overthrows the WR. Jones got away with a PI because the ball was overthrown so badly.
2:06 Jones never turns his head around. This is PI in the NFL.
2:25 This is a completion if the QB and WR execute. Hard to tell if the ball was on target or not because it's a youtube video.
4:05 Beaten on a comeback again, but you can't see what is happening.

I stand by what I said earlier. He was facing sub par talent at the WR and the QB position. Nothing like what he will see at the pro level. He grabs receivers well past 5 yards, and has a tendency to get more grabby when he's beaten. He is relying on grabbing the WR to stay in position, and doesn't play well when he has space in front of him.

I think the two comeback routes that he was beaten on are due more to the scheme and not wanting to get beat, but you can't really tell because you can't see what is happening off screen.

I don't have a pet cat, and I don't mind the pick, but I see him as a big project in the NFL. He is an insane athlete, and if they can coach a little NFL technique into him, I can see him as a solid player.

 So if your hypotheticals become true he had a bad game.

Very smart, tall receiver with 4.35 speed and a 44-inch vertical.

That sounds like a ball-hawking free safety to me. And the Cowboys DESPERATELY need this.

Maybe. I've never seen a UConn game, so all I have to go by are youtube videos with QBs who can't make a 15 yard throw to save their life. Blake Bortels may have been the only NFL QB he saw in his entire career.

Can't imagine he saw much NFL talent in 2013, his last full season:

Let's reveisit this one more time.

Who was Louisville's leading receiver and where was he just drafted?
Who was UCF's leading receiver and where was he drafted?

I get that you are young but that is no excuse for intellectual laziness. You throw crap out there and hope that it sticks.

Not sure what point you are trying to make there. If your point is that he was facing NFL competition, then he and his team failed miserably, as they lost by a combined margin of over 60 points in those two games.

I wrote the wrong timestamp on the last one. Obviously, I was talking about the interception play right after.

He basically holds him for 5 seconds up and own the field, and pushes off for the pick on a prayer of a pass.

If he wasn't armbarring and grabbing up and down the field, he wouldn't look nearly as good in coverage.

You have no idea how he played as you have not seen the tape. FAct is he did play top competition which is what you have been claiming he didn't.

If it helps, they say he's come a long way technique-wise since the season due to extended individualized coaching.

His upside is what put him at the top of board of players remaining.

If you weren't crying about play that is legal in college you would have a point. Half that was within 5 yards anyway.

What you are going is filling in the gaps with your BS. What you are saying is exactly what people complain about SEattle's secondary btw. No flag is no flag.

That seems to be the tactic many posters use on this site.

I really don't think this guy will ever be a starting CB in the NFL. He doesn't move like a CB. Maybe safety, but I doubt that too to be honest. Cowboys became enamored with his workout #'s and personality. He's stiffer than Carr.
