Anybody who expected him to come in in year one and produce was kidding themselves, he's a project player and was a luxury pick for a team that can't afford luxury picks.

A project player? He was a first round draft pick and you're making it sound like he was taken in the 7th round. He was no luxury pick he was a "need" pick with Claiborne being a bust and coming off a serious injury. Carr hasn't exactly been Mel Renfro so the Cowboys had a need at corner. With Scandrick out for the season the Cowboys have an even bigger need a corner. Maybe not you but I'm sure most of us expect Jones to at least produce some this season it's not like the Cowboys defense is loaded coming off a #1 ranking. The defense was average last season and just lost their top corner for the season and Mo who's been a disappointment has been rehabbing from a serious injury all offseason so there's an opportunity for Jones. If he doesn't make a few plays this season looking the part of a #1 pick then he's not going to end up being one of the cornerstones for this team. Teams aren't as patient with players as they were years ago and if they aren't showing signs of development heading into their second season they'll move on from them regardless where that player was taken in the draft. Just look at AJ Jenkins the 49ers used a #1 on him in 2012 and dumped him after only one season. In the past few years we've seen some top picks and #2's given up on after only a year or two.

I'm not saying this is going to happen to Jones but it is a little concerning that he hasn't looked better than he has. Some who get paid to talk football were penciling him in as a starter on draft day because the Cowboys defense needs help. As I stated earlier in this thread if we're having this same discussion about Jones next year at this time then the Cowboys obviously made a mistake. It doesn't take long for a player to show they're a "player" we saw it in year one from Ware, Lee, Dez, Tyron, Frederick and Martin. Naturally there's going to be some growing pains with all players even those who turn out great but most players who turn out to be "solid/great" players show signs their rookie year. If Jones doesn't make some plays this season and look the part of a #1 pick then I don't believe he's going to end up being what the Cowboys were hoping for. It seemed like most were talking about his athletic ability and world record broad jump more than his playmaking ability which made me start wondering about him before he ever suited up for his first practice.

Just look at Gregory you can already tell barring an injury or off the field issue he's going to be at the very least a solid player and possibly a great player. He already looks the part of a terrific player. Obviously corner is a much more difficult position to play but Jones needs to show why he was drafted in the first round. He needs to make some plays this season and start living up to his draft status.

I have to disagree. Revis when he started didn't look the part of a top notch CB coming into the league also. CB is a hard position to play especially your first year. They are also pushing him to learn the safety spot as well - which means that he has to learn both the corner and safety position. I think the team thinks highly of him for them to be throwing him into the wolves and is giving has much rep as possible. Eventually I think he will be fine and in the long run they will use him as a safety. That doesn't sound like someone who is going to be a bust. I think he is here to stay and will eventually be our starting safety of the future.

I was probably one of the most vocal both here and in the draft forum against Jones, and even I am not bashing the guy yet. Corner is the second most difficult position to play, particularly with all the no contact rules in the NFL. He'll be alright. I still don't think he'll ever live up to being a first round pick, but he doesn't have to as long as he becomes a solid contributor.

As a rookie Revis made 74 tackles the most of his career with 13 assists which ties a career high. He also had 3 int's with a FF. He may not have looked like he was going to become the top corner in the game but he showed great potential his rookie year. No one is expecting Jones to become the next Revis we're just hoping he becomes a solid player. Again, I'm not saying or suggesting he's going to be a bust but if he's going to be a "solid" player we need to see some of that first round ability this season. I don't like the Cowboys moving him around they need to settle on a position for him and allow him to get comfortable. If they throw him out there and he's hesitant resulting in some poor games he could end up losing his confidence and may never regain it.

The Cowboys obviously thought highly enough of him to use their top pick on him but it's apparent he hasn't come along as fast as they would have liked or he wouldn't have been on the field so much going up against a lot of bubble players last week. The Cowboys didn't risk Gregory last week because he's played well and they couldn't take the chance of him being injured. They're going to be counting on him to rush the passer especially while Hardy is serving his suspension. I fully understand corner is a very difficult position to play in the NFL so we're a long way from knowing where Jones will end up. I won't be overly concerned about him unless he just can't get on the field this season or he gives up more plays than he makes when he does.

My opinion is this if you use a first round pick on a player who doesn't become a starter you made a mistake. They don't have to become a starter that first year but if they don't crack the starting lineup at some point during their second season they're not going to be near the player you were hoping for. With all the OTA's and mini camps teams get players ready to contribute quick. I mentioned earlier teams aren't as patient with players as they were years ago they want results soon or they'll move on.

Revis got burned for TDs many times his rookie year as well. They saw potential in him but he also had to learn the ropes just like any rookie.

The season just started so you gotta give him a chance to learn. Remember he's not only learning how to be a corner but also a safety. Its really hard to judge from just one preseason game. So far, I like him. He's the opposite of Mo Claiborne - who we gave an arm and a leg for and whose talent is marginal. At least Jones has exceptional talent and has a willingness to learn.

Revis got burned as a rookie but he shook it off and made a bunch of plays. Most rookie corners are going to get burned for a few but they have to have a short memory and Revis did. The Cowboys shouldn't have Jones learning both positions this could screw him up. Settle on a position and allow him to learn it so he can build some confidence then make the switch later on when he's become more acclimated to the game. As for Jones having "exceptional" talent he would have been drafted higher than #27 if that was the case. The only time I heard the word "exceptional" used with Jones was concerning his athletic ability.

I don't know where you got the word "exceptional" about Jones from but we all know that he is a very talented athlete. Whether that translate to the field is yet to be seen. I'm saying though give the guy a chance and lets see what we got at the end of the season not before. His a rookie and he will make mistakes for sure. But thats not a true indication if he's a bust or not. From what I read he is a fast learner - thus the team wanted him to play more reps at the last preseason game.

Don't even think about trying to stir something up.

Like you are by fretting about a player's production before a game of consequence has even been played?

Please. If it's so distressing for you, then put me on ignore.

I got the word "exceptional" from you, you claimed Jones had "exceptional talent." You said "At least Jones has exceptional talent and has a willingness to learn." Now you've gone from claiming he has "exceptional talent" to "very good talent." Apparently my comment that Jones would have been drafted a lot higher than #27 if he had "exceptional talent" caused you to pull back a little. lol We had a discussion not long after the draft and you claimed that you predicted Mo would be a bust immediately after the Cowboys selected him in 2012. You went on to predict big things with Jones but as of right this moment Mo who's been a bust is ahead of Jones despite spending the entire offseason rehabbing a serious injury that reportedly had his weight down to 150 pounds.

Some will say that Mo is ahead of Jones due to his experience but Mo has missed a lot of practice and game time over his 3 seasons which has stunted his development. Either Mo has looked really good and that's the reason he's ahead of Jones or both players haven't looked that great and the Cowboys are going with the lesser of two evils between the two we'll just have to see. If Mo has looked better than Jones it does leave some questions about him. Most experts said Jones would struggle covering WR's. Charlie Casserly said he didn't think much of Jones as a corner but thought he could make a good safety. Jones may end up being a very solid player but we need to at least see some flashes of that this season. The FAN who claimed Jones is a project is kidding himself you don't draft "project's with the 27th overall pick.

Show me a post where I'm fretting about his production? How much production is he going to have in only 3 preseason games? Dude, I'm not the one who started this thread saying he looked crappy and lost. You won't find one post where I'm complaining about his production or saying that he's looked crappy and lost. I posted that he hasn't looked good but I'm putting some of the blame on the Cowboys for moving him around and his lack of experience. I haven't closed the book on this kid far from it I've been very clear expressing my opinion and suggest you do some reading to understand the concerns I have instead of making unfounded claims.

Ok my bad. I meant to say exceptionally gifted as in athletically gifted. I don't know why you keep saying that we need to see something from Jones. The season hasn't even started. As for Mo - get real. His been here for 3 years and yet your comparing him with Jones. Why not wait till they play a few games first before busting on Jones? He was selected 27th overall and I believe that is where he should have been selected. I honestly think that they are going to move him to safety. He isn't a project and he will play a big part of our defense this coming year.

I said we need to see something "this season" from Jones. Why can't you comprehend that? As for Mo he's been here 3 years spending most of his time off the practice field and out of games rehabbing injuries. He's been a terrible disappointment and is the main reason the Cowboys drafted Jones. This is Mo's last stand so the Cowboys had to cover themselves at corner due to his disappointing play and injury issues. Show me where I'm busting on Jones? Not once have I disparaged him during any of the discussions I've had either some of you can't read and comprehend or have an agenda. I've said all along let's wait until he has a season under his belt but some here aren't paying attention. He hasn't looked good so far but we're just getting started with him. I make a few observations and they get spun into throwing in the towel on the kid. lol
