I want to find the reasons for all the Ogletree hype going on around in the forum. I just cant understand what so many people are so excited about. Now this doesnt mean i have an opinion either way on whether he will ever be a starting caliber player in the NFL. I dont know. He has 6 pro catches. Thats right 6 catches. Why do so many people keep calling for him to start? I know people have made it their person mission to bash Roy Williams every chance they get and i dont post this in defense of Roy. I just want to figure out why i keep reading post after post about how Ogletree is the answer to Roy's lack of production.

Please explain a few points.

Ogletree's best college year was 58 catches 723 yards and 5 TD's.

He wasnt drafted for a reason. He wasnt productive enough in college and now he is supposed to come in as a rookie and leapfrog Crayton and Hurd.

Sam Hurd best college year was 65 catches 1064 yards and 13 td's. He is only 24 years old. Why is no one making his case?

Crayton has produced tons more than ogletree.

Please explain what is so amazing about this guy that warrants him leapfrogging Roy Williams, Crayton, and Hurd? What are these amazing factors that qualifies him to get so much hype?

Every game when he catches a pass the groupies come out and call for him to start. He has 6 catches for the season. 6.

Miles Austin only had 15 catches in his career before this season. just saying....

He catches the ball cleanly with his hands.

His routes are precise.

He is explosive and quick out of his cuts.

He can run after the catch with wiggle, power and desire.

He understands how to set-up CBs so that he is open when and where he wants to be open.

He seems to have excellent body control.

He shows tremendous focus when he is out there.

He makes plays, not excuses in press conferences.

He doesn't make a stupid gesture after every first down.

He hasn't created a fuss when inferior receivers in front of him steal his snaps.

Yes but he wasnt being called to start as a rookie. And Miles had 2 college season with almost 1k yards each and double digit touchdowns.

From what I understand he has been tearing it up at practice and he has the physical tools needed to be a game breaking receiver.

Babe keeps talking about how great of a player he is, and he is as well connected with the Garretts as any media guy. So there is obviously a buzz around him.

Sherman is also great at developing receivers without egos - see Hurd, Austin, Crayton, and now Otree.

Just a shame Roy is taking snaps away from guys that deserve them.

And you know all this about him how? What secret tapes do you have? So do you mean you studied his 6 catches and came to this conclusion? Wow.

great college stats dont equal NFL success

when will some of you ever learn

That's enough for me to see what is perfectly obvious.

Actually, I read something today about how Ogletree didn't carry over his progress from camp and preseason to the regular season until he got a good talking to.

He's improved recently and that's why he's on the field. And if he keeps making big time catches like the one he did on Sat, he'll get more snaps.

let's go Ogletree, he needs more playing time, especially now and the playoffs.

6 catches is all it takes to come up with the list you made? From what you said he should not only start for dallas he should start for the NFC probowl team.

Good list.

And perhaps most importantly, Romo likes throwing to him.

let's go ogletree, if the coaching staff let the youngsters play we will not have to worry as much when a starter gets hurt.

Let Tree get more PT

What makes this a good list?
I assume its good because it is both accurate and you agree. So please explain how you know these things? Is it from his 6 catches this entire year? Or is it from the insider info you have from the team?

I'm trying to understand the hype machine so maybe i can jump on someday.

You could say this about anybody that hasn't been "given a chance" yet. It's like employers not hiring due to lack of experience...if EVERY company was the same way, NOBODY would get experience.

From what he HAS shown, people like....is that so wrong?

I guess the question is, outside of his lack of catches, DUE TO LACK OF PLAYING TIME, what DON'T you like about him?

Also, collegiate stats and careers really don't impress me too much at this time of year....shall we go through all of the #1 draft choices in the past 10 years?

Someone is trying to get over 1,000 posts by the end of this thread.

Starting Ogletree now is insane. Getting him more involved earlier on might have been a good idea, but heck we can't get Felix involved. I think the thing is that fans want to see Kevin more involved. He will be if not this season than next. The guy has NFL skills. We just aren't sure how great. Though waiting on Austin sure paid off. I would love to keep Sam around, but I feel like he will probably go to the Dolphins, KC or even the Saints. Somebody from the Parcell's tree will grab him.

also #11 isn't doing anything that any of our other wrs can't do.

Agree with you there. But still why Ogletree over the rest? Thats what i cant seem to find a answer to. If you think Roy needs to ride the bench then that probably agreed upon by many many people. But why call for Ogletree to jump over Hurd, and Crayton?

Intuitive, this one.

Actually, my initial reaction to the guy came from attending training camp. I was pretty skeptical about the post-draft hype considering his lack of production in college. But he stood out in camp like a sore thumb because he kept make plays all over the field. I continued to watch him and many of the attributes that Eskimo described were apparent. I wrote about this at the time.

I still think he's raw in certain respects and needs to develop more strength and confidence, but very clearly he will be a starting receiver in this league in the future.
