Calling Stasheroo... Mort wants 'boys to sign Matt Jones

We know how everyone feels about Matt Jones.

What do you mean everyone? Bring him in on a low risk deal. Roster is already full of journeymen WR's, one more wont hurt. Especially knowing that if he screws up, he is outta there.

Good point!

Lets trade for TO too and bring back the pacman.

So our new savior is an undrafted rookie free agent? Amazing !!!

Where did I say that?

Your comprehension skills are the opposite of amazing.

If Matt Jones had been available for free last year, maybe J wouldn't have made the miserable RW trade that still makes me buckle over and retch. RW may turn out better than we think, but oy veh, what a pitiful price to pay ..

Let's look at the 53-man ...

OK. Brewster, Mike Hamlin are kicking around and you have a few weeks to IR them if you are going to ... Duke Preston on the 53, anyone?

Jones was 65-761 last year (only two TDs though). Whatever scenario you can think of, that counts for something, even if he was a FB or something ..

He's not a divisive guy, just a slacker. He's shown the knack of playing WR. He can get open and catch the ball. He's not a straight-line guy, but a Witten type. He gets open.

My prediction: Ogletree and Jones are our go-to guys later this year. .... Maybe Crayton in there too ...

At least you're honest about the habit.

Actually the reason he is suspended is because he violated the terms of his strict probation. He drank a couple of beers and he was to not have alcohol. Surely he is frequently drug tested so he must be clean.

Sorry to reply to my own post ....

But as you wise guys know ...

Matt Jones was 65-761 in only 12 games he was active last year.. that projects to ..

85 catches, 1014 yards. ...

He's improved every year except for 2007. He said he wouldn't shave his beard until he scored a TD that year. Week 8 he scored. His beard was like Socrates until then and DBs would get an advantage by yanking on it ...

Hurd and Austin, pretty good. Matt Jones may be better. And may be the Wildcat guy you are looking for! .. Hire the Pacman security guys, and let's go with Matt Jones ..

Kind of kidding, but this guy has talent, showed it last year. ...

He must get open. He must have something. Sign him!

Srry is this a record, two replies to my own post ...

Wonder what DeCamillis thinks of Matt Jones ... his opinion may be the linchpin ...

Mort is on GAC lobbying for us to sign Matt Jones. He says we need a red zone WR, and while Matt has been lazy before, Mort says he's very motivated now. With Mort's Arkansas ties, maybe he knows something.

He actually went on for a couple minutes about it. Kind of odd for him to bring that up out of the blue.

We know how everyone feels about Matt Jones... Just thought I'd throw it out there. :)

Ogletree da #1 matt jones #2 RW#3

sounds promising.

I just want to add, something I forgot to earlier.

Mickey spagnola was talking about this in august. He said there was zero chance it would ever happen because Dave Campo and Joe Decamillis have let it be known that matt jones is lazy and mickey said Campo told him right out "he didnt think matt jones even liked playing football"

So if mickey had it right, this is all a waste of time. He wont even be considered.

If 65-761 in 12 games he was active (last year) is lazy ...

He may be frustrating, may not listen to coaches, may not like playing football, may be an ***, but ...

Looks like he can play unmotivated better than our WRs can play motivated ..

As long as Matt Jones doesn't divide the team ... he gets it done ....

Is he so miserable in practice that he hurts morale? Does he dog it completely? ..

Put him on the 53 .. he's going to be more productive than anybody on the 46-53 right now ... Dam right, it looks like.

Would he be really worse than Marty B? ... Would MJ disrupt WR position meetings by firing up a dube?

At least Matt Jones would have maybe a month of good will when he would try at least a little bit ... I wonder how much guaranteed money he has left from his contract(s) ....

Yeah, and if he were any good, why would he be available?

Because he's been a productive receiver, last year a very productive receiver ...

Look, the guy's priors are:

1) Being too apathetic in 2006 (?) and being suspended by the Jags for a few games ...

2) Smoking out with buddies in an SUV in their Arky hometown in July 2008, and MJ admits to the gendarme that the coke he had under the floorboard was his. Probation.

3) M. Jones has a great season fall 2008, but missed the last 3-4 games due to NFL drug violation/suspension after appeals (because of the above incident, see above)

3) Some hard-*** dude saw him drink a beer or two on a golf course last February (2009)... thus violating his criminal probation (maybe a fan of the Colts or Texans got wind of this and sent it to the league ...)

This guy has real ability. You think that stopped us from signing TO because he was a knucklehead? ... At least M. Jones isn't a divisive locker room or huddle guy ...

Cowboys have overestimated their talent, no doubt. So sign Matt Jones ... he is at least as good as our 4-5, whoever they are nowadays ..

We can pair him with our former undrafted free agent QB

Mort likes the Cowboys. The whole Parcells thing started because of him.

Yep, they share dope. :laugh2:
And then Mort takes a share. At least it seems that way by some of the reports he puts out.

It's worth noting that Matt's #'s last year were with David Garrard as QB, DAVID GARRARD! Come on, he would be sooooo happy to play with a real QB and you know as bad as Romo can be he is still better than Garrard on his bad days. Bring him in Jerry and do it Monday, two weeks to prepare during the bye. To add a guy with his skill set and the other Jones back healthy would be a big help.
