Because why sign him for 40 million year or two from now when you can sign him for 35-37 million now? Because had they signed him two years ago they could've got him for even cheaper.

Because you don't know if he will work out. Let him play under McCarthy for one year. It's really McCarthy's decision if he wants to hitch his future to Prescott.

Don't worry if it's 35 million or 40 million. The only thing that matters is getting this decision right. If the team had been sold on Prescott they would have signed him last year. But the team doesn't believe in Prescott 100% to commit to long term deal. So do the next best thing and take it one year at a time.

Slow will win the day.

Yeah it truly makes no sense. Even this. year....they aren't "sold on him yet" so what do they do? They draft Lamb, bring in McCarthy who's considered a "qb guru"....so you want him to raise his value even MORE. It makes no sense.

Exactly.......they've positioned value to only increase. All I know if it doesn't get by the 15th, the 16th start what certainly will be a hell of lot drama the next couple years.

Watkins probably tweeted that five seconds after he got off the phone with Dak's agent. The terms from each side have been in place for months, one side or the other will blink on the last day. Maybe the last hour.

But the deal will absolutely get done no matter what fans think.

it matters when it’s all guaranteed money due immediately. Next year he gets 37 mil. So you’d rather pay him nearly 70 mil for two years that you can’t spread around at all, only to comeback and negotiate with him again when he now has ALL the leverage. Or let him walk w/ zero compensation? Feels nuts. The cowboys have done well with their contract structures and ability to limit the risk and dead cap, and at the very least could explore trading him with a deal secured

He's a 4 year pro. You know what you have in him. You think Rams and Eagles didn't have questions on Goff and Wentz? But you sign them before they reset the market at 40 million.

No way, I read all the posts here worrying about it and then Zeke's contract was all front loaded and destroyed our salary cap.

Oh wait, Zeke's deal was three times more cap friendly than Gurley's. Never mind.

It was never going to happen. Teams who believe they have a franchise QB find a way to get this thing done. If the Cowboys don't get this done then at this point they are telling you they are not completely sold on Dak. I guess they have 3 days left

lol. Dak is not sold on the Cowboys terms.

Politics huh? And what are these politics you are referencing?
If they outright pull the tag and let him walk then there will be some in the locker room who may become buttt hurt. Because they will feel Jerry done Dak dirty.

People say Dak is owed after the last 4 years. Well 31 million comes out to about 7 1/2 Million for each year owed

You need to think of the McCarthy angle. If you sign Prescott to a long term deal you now have handcuffed your head coach. McCarthy had a rough relationship with Rodgers and everyone knew what he had at QB.

Go with the tag and let's see how this year plays out for Prescott, McCarthy, and Dallas.

Don't worry about the market and price. This will always be worked out.

I said before, if there isn't a deal by the 15th then most likely Dallas will find another QB. May tag Dak one more time next year if they haven't found a replacement.

Anyone can find a QB. Finding one's that throw for almost 5,000 yards and 65% completions isn't so easy.

Because it helps the team. Remember the Dallas Cowboys

Takes two to make a contract.

I've expected Dak to refuse to make a deal since last year. He wouldn't sign last year when faced with a 2mil year. Why would he sign when facing a guaranteed 31.4mil year?

Since last year, the reasonable inference is that he wants to get to free agency. I wouldn't be shocked if Voldemort has sufficiently changed economic conditions for him to change his mind, but I've seen no indication of that.

68 million for two years and no strings attached is better than 110 million and being locked in long term, if you don't believe in the player 100%.

The two years is time enough to come to a plan "b".

If Prescott leaves Dallas, Dallas will probably get a 3rd round draft compensatory pick. Not exactly nothing.

Jerry is rolling the dice. He’s a whale...always has been. If Dak balls out big time this season(if there’s a season)then Jerry cashes in, pay the kid big bucks but will recoup coin in the intangibles of marketing and promoting over the long haul . If DP falls flat and doesn’t ball out with the talent around him...so be it. Move on and JJ will flap his gums about being a judge of talent and how the NFL works. Win win.
Jerry wins either way really

Dak was a Garrett and Scott Linehan find. Now that McCarthy is here things will change.

If that means we move on from Dak so be it. Dak is not the type of special player that can win you a game by himself. Surround him with talent and he will flourish but take away that talent and he’s just a guy.

Good point about the comp pick.

But I'd say roll with Dalton this year if we can get a trade for Dak. A short timer QB looking to move on elsewhere is not great for the team. Bidness decisions.

Get a contract, or move on. Dalton gives us an easy move on strategy that we wouldn't have most years.

Jerry should be negotiating an option extension with Dalton right now, and announce it Monday.
