Cam Newton... Grandiose showboater or just showing his swag?

Him playing the race card is kind of lame. Yeah, Cam, we've never seen anything like you. We've never seen a talented, young, mobile black QB in the Super Bowl. Well, if you ignore Super Bowl 49. And Super Bowl 48. And Super Bowl 47.

Many of you say he's playing the race card, but you haven't been privy to some of his mail and email.
Based on some of the comments I've read about him on anonymous newspaper message boards and posts, I can understand why he factors race into the reaction against him.
Not saying ALL the criticism is race-based because there are people who legitimately hate end zone celebrations of any kind. But ... there are a lot of people who don't like Cam, and it's because he's black. And let's be clear, it's not JUST about his skin color. It's the culture that comes along with his skin color and perceptions that HE is the one who shouldn't be haughty when others (like Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady who don't get the same criticism over their celebrations) can.
Racism isn't just not liking a person because of the color of their skin. Nor does having a black friend mean you're not a racist. The root of racism is superiority and privilege, thinking that your race and your culture should be predominant and superior to others and reacting as if another man's culture is inherently inferior to yours or the way that he does things is inferior to yours because of who he is.
I know a lot of white people who I sing and pray with on Sundays who if a black minister were chosen as pastor would leave the church. Sad but true because I've seen it happen before.

I dislike Arrogant Rodgers for his attitude and behavior on the field as much as I do Tom Cry Brady for his. Cam is no different. I dislike all 3 of them for how they act. So am I a racist, or an equal opportunity disliker of non likable fools?

You are consistent in your condemnation. I don't have a problem with people not liking end zone celebrations. I really don't prefer them either.

Ill root against him in the Super Bowl. Not because Im a racist. Because he acts the fool. I think JFF is a fool as well, but nobody gets labeled a racist for feeling the same way about JFF. Cam brings up the "African American QB" topic to defend his acting the fool then acts offended when people ask him about it after that. IMO the more he talks the more he looks like a fool.

What has Cam done that JFF has done? Cam has swag/cockiness (whatever you wanna call it on the field). His teammates like him and he stays out of trouble. JFF is a drug addict, an attention seeker, a spoiled brat, and a cry baby. He's an awful teammate and not a very good football player. I don't see the comparison.

But how many "Does Aaron Rodgers' personality annoy you?" threads do you see (on CZ and the rest of the internet)? Very little compared to the amount you see on Cam. In general, society seems to voice their frustrations more with someone of black skin than white. That's just the way it is. The fact that people are having discussions about Newton's showmanship or Kaepernick's appearance proves that.

Just a little test. (Cam has been a starter for 5 years and Aaron for 8, so there has been more time for articles to be written on Aaron).

Number of Google hits:

cam newton ego 446,000
aaron rodgers ego 295,000
cam newton arrogant 220,000
aaron rodgers arrogant 146,000
cam newton jerk 413,000
aaron rodgers jerk 164,000

You get the picture.

Maybe Cam is just a bigger jerk?

He is more in your face about it IMO. So the more defiant someone is and throwing it in people's faces that he knows dont like it, the more he will be disliked for acting like an * * *

How soon we forget after the Turkey day game when he said "id get everyone top do the wave but they all went home". Don't care for his showboating and ditto for A Rodgers. I hope someone knocks him clean out and he wakes up more humbled and in a hospital room.

He's got a lot of "swag".

Not really my type of thing though.

From this fan's perspective, rooting for, or against a player, a team...is one of the the most color blind actions that I know of in society.

It's not about the player's color...but the color the player wears.

Yesterday I cheered for DeMarco Murray because he wore Silver and Blue...we all know how this story ends.

I can't stand Cam Newton because he is a hot dog and plays for the wrong team. Cam plays for the Cowboys, and you will see how quickly my attitude changes.

If Sports writer's want to make cheering for, or against, a certain player about race...I find that to be race baiting and a huge insult to those athletes that have acheived that level of success!!! Just my 2 cents!

So your logic is that people hate every player who doesn't play for their team. That's crap. First of all, the media isn't supposed to be biased yet they still praise certain players and target other certain players. Second of all, the collective of real fans and passive fans of all teams still show more interest in certain players, which is why Tim Tebow is the only 3rd string QB to ever hold his own press conference. And third of all, people don't equally hate every player who doesn't play for their favorite team. You read all the time on CowboysZone that people want to see Peyton win another and ride off into the sunset. There is bias toward players. The internet doesn't have a favorite team yet there are many more Google hits about Cam Newton's arrogance than Aaron Rodger's.

Fact of the matter is, no Panthers fans care what he does as long as he's scoring and the only people are upset are the fans of teams who he's ran and thrown all over.

He said it best. People have never seen anything like him. They hate it. Aaron Rodgers does the same antics as does the smug Tom Brady......but it shows their "Competitiveness". Cam does it and he's arrogant. Yeah I hate looking at it but its because he's dominating lol.

Lots of people dislike Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Jay Cutler, the Mannings, and Tony Romo to name a few. I don't why people act like Cam is the only hated QB in the NFL.

Cam is just the face of the NFL right now. Plus with all the goofy clothes, the shoes, and celebrations he does he is obviously is trying to get attention. Not all that is going to be positive. People need to get over it.

I can't stand the guy. He is arrogant and he likes to showboat too much. I didn't like him when he was stealing computers in college and I really disliked him after his father made him attend Auburn. It sure looked bad when Cam's father came up with the money to build a new church soon after Cam signed with Auburn. There was a big stink about it and there was a new article every day in the newspapers about Cam and his family . I don't have any respect for any member of that family.
