I aint throwin no bouquets at the line until they show me they can move the Washington, Philly and 49er fronts off the ball. Beating up on Detroit and Chicago aint showin me nothin..

Okay I'm only half kidding. Obviously they've played pretty well overall. Not the best in the league but have not been the unmitigated disaster some predicted either. What's always interesting is that looking around the league you can definitely see that there are some lines that are MUCH worse.. and a few that are a little better.. I'd put this bunch somewhere in the top 10 but I think they might be capable of better if Philbin and Moore could stop with some of these stupid blocking schemes that almost seem designed to allow the defense to have at least one unblocked guy in the backfield.

I was a little worried about Steele, but he proved me dead wrong. But I figured Biadasz would come around, and I thought Tyler Smith would be at LG and Tyron would be at LT, and Tyron would be in and out, and we'd likely work Tyler in that way.

We haven't missed a beat . . .with Tyler, that is.

I figured we wouldn't, though, when we drafted him.

I'll tell you this much, though. If Tyler Smith were playing guard, and Tyron were playing LT, we could dominate in the run game with either back.

I ultimately think that's what we'll do anyway. Not many teams with more potential in the run game than ours regardless of the back, really.

Any back would like to be behind this line. Jerral and Stephen did fantastic work in the offseason and then topped if off with a cherry by adding Jason Peters.
I so badly want to see, when Tyron Smith returns, have Peters check in as a TE, McGovern check in as a blocking FB.

Then line up:
Peters/Tyron Smith/Tyler Smith
with McGovern being the lead blocker for either Elliott or Pollard (Davis too).

You could do several different things. They can just pound the left side of the opponent's defensive line; have both Zeke and Pollard pull off a misdirection; or even have Turpin go in motion even just for the purpose of confusion. Something is bound to pop.

Then you can bring in the receivers and tight ends in various combinations and get the ball in the end zone.

LT- young starter…at least average with chance to be very special
LG- young, but no better than when it was Connor Williams…need a long term starter.
C- average maybe? Certainly good enough and should keep improving.
RG- all pro, HOF player still playing at a high level, but with age comes both injuries and retirement.
RT- young starter…already shaping into an above avg starter and special run blocker

Tyron may come back and take his LT spot back. Maybe he comes back next year….who knows what the guy is thinking?

Either way, guard is the position where maybe we have a young backup in McGovern, but we don’t have a guard who isn’t the weak link and not a guy we know will be a future starter.

I feel the off-season needs to focus on at least 1 prime guard prospect, if not 2.

I mean, Cooper Rush was fantastic. But he doesn't do that without the offensive linemen who did the dirty work.
Rush was one of the best getting the ball out, need a bigger sample size with Dak, who holds onto the ball much longer. Chicago traded away their only pass rusher and Hutch got 2 sacks against us.

Indeed, this OL has been a pleasant surprise, we thought we were doomed when Tyron went down, but have come together as a solid formidable OL.
Zeke isn't done doing what he does, and Pollard is just getting started, and the running lanes/blocking has improved more than I thought it would at this point.
There is some cohesiveness in that group, and they are playing together, Rook is holding the fort nicely at LT, and has room for a future HOF LT returning when he is ready.
Don't care if it takes till post season, if TS can return and contribute?

Yeah this line aint playin so well that it can thumb its nose at getting back a future Hall of Famer who is only 31 years old. Maybe his body has let him down completely and he can't play no mo.. but if I'm McCarthy and Co. I'm going to make him show me that on the field before I just assume. And if he DOES get hurt .. I already know I got a pretty good backup plan in place.. So re-inserting Tyron for a game or two to see what he's got is a no-lose proposition. If he can't play you bring Tyler back in and continue forward. If he CAN play, you take this line and really the whole offense up another notch.

I gotta think that something is going to go Tyron Smith's way. He can never catch a break, so he's due.
By the time post season rolls around and TS returns to full duty status, we might need to make room for the full house party on game day.
Pollard
Zeke
Davis
Ollison
Just a daydream but love the concept of going old school and pounding defenses with a strong running game.

The ultimate conspiracy theory is that we are just resting TS for post season duty, strongest OL in the play offs, and just go dominate in the trenches. :D

I’m not giving out a round of applause until I see how we finish up. We still have nine games left and I‘ve seen too many fans start celebrating and patting the team on the back when there’s still a long way to go. The OL has played much better than expected let’s see if it holds up once we get to December and January.

Your just being too conservative, but eventually you will start seeing the light and begin to start understanding that this team can play with any team.

Too conservative? Where have you been the past 27 years? Lol I’m sure you were around last season watching the rug get pulled right out from under us in the playoffs. I understand that this team has a tendency to sputter out in December and January and fold in the playoffs.
