I don’t think he’d be great at the position.

I would describe La’el as a guy that doesn’t have any quit in him, but he is not a technician and that doesn’t bode well for the position.

This is especially true because he is not an overwhelmingly lengthy guy, and he would actually give up size to rush ends like Jason Pierre Paul. I don’t think he would be able to get by on his effort like he did in college when it comes to pass pro. Needs refinement.

He's a tenacious player, but I think he’s where he probably should be. Just gotta give him time to really take off.

i hope so. That way we can hopefully hang on to Ron Leary who is one of the most underrated guards in the business imo.

I absolutely would love if that was the case. Its a travesty to lose a player like Leary for nothing, but unfortunately the consensus is NO he can not. I am on board with re-signing Leary and trading Collins. Ive read on here Collins only has one year left under contract anyways so the money issue isnt far off with him either. Of course this COMPLETELY depends on what a trade would bring. I realize Collins doesnt have a huge body of work but in my bias opinion he still worth alot. Would be great to get some help on defense.

As crazy as it sounds, it might be Martin at RT someday.

I could see it.

Yes he is one of the best guards in the league but that's because he is a great football player. He could easily make the transition and make pro bowls at tackle. I do think him and Frederick both benefit by being next to each other though.

That's my thought as well, resign Leary and package Romo, Collins and a swap of 1st round picks to make a significant move up in the 1st for a stud DE or one of the safeties if one of them falls a bit.

Collins played some RT in OTA's when he first came to Dallas and was terrible, struggled with his footwork and technique.

He was quickly moved to LG where he has stayed the last two years, he has never played RT in college or in an NFL game.

Prior to the draft, scouts looked at him as a possible swing tackle but Brugler and others viewed him ideally suited for G in the NFL and based on what the Cowboys have done with him accordingly, he is right.

I think the question is not can he play RT but rather should he attempt to play any RT since he is better suited at playing G in the NFL.

Free agency and the draft can add to the RT position depth with players who are ideally suited to play the RT position.

He has one year left on his contract. However, he will then be an restricted free agent and we could place a 1st round tender on him for around $3 million. So technically we control him fairly cheap for two years (or get a 1st round pick next offseason as compensation if some team wanted to sign him).

I Would love to keep Leary, but his cost will more than likely be too high, and as others have said he does not appear to be willing to give a hometown discount.

He wouldn't be the first rookie who struggled in OTA's let alone a position he never played before.

I think that might get considered. Tackle is a more premium position.

I do think the Cowboys like martin lined up next to Frederick. It virtually ensures a zone to run behind. (which we sometimes under-utilize)

He is more ideally suited at G and has limited length and limited kickslide range which does not bode well for a T.

Collins is exactly where he should be playing right now.

Agreed. It's probably his most natural position. But I strongly believe he's got the feet and ability to play anywhere.

Agreed. Some on this forum are forever in love w/the idea but I doubt seriously we'll ever see it. Collins is a mauler but he is a feast or famine type blocker. He can pancake a guy one play and then whiff the next. You don't want that for pass blocking!

Lacks key ingredients of a tackle.
