Given how much Cowboys value position versatility, how they used Vince Mayle as a move TE when they had to, and Linehan's comments below, maybe Brown makes the 53 and we carry 6 WRs and 3 TEs (one of them Rico). Thoughts?

“[Brown] is a little bit of an all-around guy,” Cowboys offensive coordinator Scott Linehan said, via the Dallas Morning News. “He’s an outside receiver with a big frame. He’s kind of got a ‘tweener’ size (6-2, 222) when it comes to receiver. He’s got a little bit of a TE element to his game as far as his size and the matchup and the people he’s blocking. So he should match up well in that area.
“He’s a good receiver, too. He has a real consistent game, and he’s a smart kid, so we’re excited about him.”

No he can't esp since he's unlikely to be on the roster although it's possible.

I think he makes the roster but it will not be at the expense of a tight end unless said tight end has injuries preventing him from playing this year.

The only way Brown is going to supplant Butler on the roster is if he has a Dak-like preseason. And I don't know if that's possible with second and third string QBs throwing to him.

The only way he's going to supplant your 4th string WR is with an Dak-like presence?

Seems that if the team felt they were bad calls, he'd not have been cut

Perhaps but performance evaluation is not always so cut and dried. Cowboys also cut Brian Waters, Todd Christiansen, Jimmy Smith who became perennial pro bowlers and kept and an aged Nate Newton and let go of the younger soon to be multi-pro bowler in Ron Stone.

I am betting he makes the roster, look at how Linehan is so giddy. They see packages and plays for this guy, and he can block. He'll be a fine special teamer. Switzer is not an outside guy, Brown is. They need the depth. Hanna going to PUP would free up some room. This guy is gonna show up in preseason. And you don't throw him away after the good camp he'll have.

Brown, Rico, Woods....members of the all-hype-czone team...throw in Ivie, Carrell and sprinkle in a lil white dust (marquez, had to clarify that) and our late round picks are gonna run the show....

..I am gonna temper my enthusiasm until I see them in pads...if these guys can all play and make the roster as many suggest, then there are a buncha current players that will get their walking papers...minimally, there will be MUCH more competition in TC - that is a great thing

Dak went from a QB we wanted to see over a few years, to see if he was worth developing as the QB of the future....to back up after Moore broke his ankle to starter after Too went down.
Then he had to prove it, and he did.
So Brown can prove it as well, hopefully without any WR injuries. He is vying for a spot against an extra TE and maybe even a 4th TE. And maybe even if they keep a 3rd RB, if that guy is not Rod Smith.

The 2 WR's he is really competing with is Butler, and even Whitehead. I don't think they keep 2 rookie WR's with only keeping 5. So he really needs to stand out to make them keep 6. So the key is, can he standout out with more throwing to him or a rookie 3rd team QB...yeah, tough way to show you need to be on the 53.

But I think he can do it. Though he is also competing against if they keep an extra DB or DL as that 52nd or 53rd player.

Yup, only way is if we go with 6 WR. I believe the last time we did that was 2013.

You are so right. The only way he can stick is if he balls out on special teams. He has to excel on more than one team.

So the usual off season / TC hype? LOL. I can see where you think this, and especially since last years later round guys looked good too. So can it happen. 2 years in a row? Yes we need to wait and see.
But you can't deny the potential is there.
I even throw in Jaylon Smith too. We know the talent is there for him, but has he really recovered enough to make a difference?

To me since the draft I seen Carrell as a PS player, and possibly even Ivie, until Irving got suspended. I even question one time that Woods was on the edge to be a PS player, but got blasted for it. So be it, it wasn't the 1st time and won't be the last. LOL.
I even said White was a possible PS player too, but had them keeping Woods. So one makes it, the other don't type situation.

But I really believe Brown can make them keep 6 WR's. If they don't keep him, some team will claim him from waivers before the others players they try to move to the PS.

If Moore is who Floaty makes him out to be, he should make Brown look like Julio Jones

He may get his chances with Dak.

I suspect the team to still barely play Dez and Witten until dress rehearsal. I believe Bease probably starts getting veteran days as well.

I don't think teams spend draft picks on guys they envision for the practice squad, you just have no guarantees there. They hope these guys make the roster and I would hope they give him a chance to showcase what he learned in camp.

I think 4 TE is pretty likely, unless Hanna is a no go. I think they want to keep Gathers, they've seen more then we have and it seems like they like what they've seen. Swaim is going to be here.

Brown has to beat out Butler or Whitehead to be on the roster, and there's at least a chance that they view Whitehead as filling a different role then Brown could. Seems like a PS guy that you make a Gathers deal with this year.

Cherrypick much?
