Can Noah Brown push Hanna/Swaim off roster?

True, although there seems to be some doubt if he'll recover satisfactorily from the micro fracture surgery on his knee. Let's hope he does.

Agreed.

I'm looking at the question as a hypothetical with the assumption of both guys being healthy.

I would also add Hanna is a proven special teamer. Something that remains to be seen with Noah.

Brown is a intriguing development prospect, but the talk of him replacing Butler IMO is premature. Butler has a unique role in that outside of Dez and Williams, he's the only other legitimate outside receiver on the squad, but he's 4th/5th on the depth chart. Should either T-Will or Dez go down for a extended amount of time, I feel much more comfortable with him filling in than Brown.

I think 4 TE is pretty likely, unless Hanna is a no go. I think they want to keep Gathers, they've seen more then we have and it seems like they like what they've seen. Swaim is going to be here.

Brown has to beat out Butler or Whitehead to be on the roster, and there's at least a chance that they view Whitehead as filling a different role then Brown could. Seems like a PS guy that you make a Gathers deal with this year.
so are you saying 4 TEs and 6 Wrs?

Dez, Twill, Beaz, Switz, plus two of Butler or Whitehead or Brown?

I tend to think its either 4 TEs or 6 WRs, but not both
Or...less likely but possible with how tough the defense cuts will be..... 5 WRs and 3 TEs

It's pretty strange we heard nothing about the guy when they were in t shirts and shorts.

He may just not be a very good,player..

Cherrypick much?

As a general strategy, any time you think pointing to a low probability occurrence from 20 some years ago is making a relevant point, you should stop, close your browser, and abandon the post

Cherry picking because I supported my stance with examples instead of broad generalization? And FYI I was not disagreeing with you just saying just because a player is cut/undrafted/drafted late is not indicative of his ability to play in the NFL, personnel evaluators are fallible and the evaluation process has missed many such players. I don't have to go back 20 years to show this and you know it.

James Harrison
Wes Welker
Arian Foster
Jeff Saturday
Miles Austin
Cullen Jenkins
David Irving
Danny Amendola

And some of the absolute greats were also cuts, like Johnny Unitas and Kurt Warner. This is just the tip of iceberg and doesn't even include undrafted or low draft misses by talent evaluators. Should I go on? Happy 4th Abe!

You wouldn't think that from his You Tube highlights where he catches a ball on the defender's back. Of course, You Tube highlights are just that--highlights. He'll need consistency in multiple roles to make the 53.

I'd like to see Hanna come back 100% if possible -- he's been a valuable blocker to have available as well as a STs guy, as you noted.

As far as Noah Brown is concerned, I'm anxious to see what he's able to contribute, although I definitely have my doubts about him replacing Butler at this time as well. Butler has been showing up really well in practice lately, so he won't be outdone easily by any means.

I'm pretty sure Brown will be getting good exposure in camp and if he does reasonably well, I expect him to be assigned to the practice squad. I agree that it's premature for him to challenge Butler very seriously at this point. Next year might possibly be a different story if he's able to digest the playbook well enough.

It just takes considerable time for WRs to gain sufficient readiness in the NFL. He's an exceptional athlete, although I think Butler has more speed. What Brown has to his benefit is the type of physicality that Dez is noted for. We'll have some nice competition available at WR this year.

I'll say it right now...Noah Brown will be your starting Z WR in 2018. Why he fell in the draft is beyond me. Great Blocker...Big body...shields off defenders..good hands. Kid is gonna be everything T. Will is not...

They played 3 games last season without Dez and didn't miss a beat. I have not gone back to study the WRs in those games, but Butler must have been good enough.

Butler also adds a speed element which is not Brown's forte.

Hanna has a 2.25M base salary. He'll need to show that he is 100% and probably need to show that he is better than Swaim.

I like the kid's upside, and while he is trying to realize it, he has a talent that he can be unusually good at right out of the chute that is rare for his position. I think he has a real shot to land on the 53.
