No, IMO we've missed that opportunity with the losses against Washington, Seattle, and Houston. I think that 9-7 is a reality and as fans we will be looking at the "what if's" again at the end of the year like last year when we missed the playoffs. Can the boys make it to 10-6?
The defense is one of the best in the league in those stats, but not one of the best in the league overall, because it doesn't generate takeaways. As a result, our offense's starting field position is among the worst in the league, which is a part of what's holding our scoring down. We've also only played one team that ranks in the top half of the league in points (the Texans), so you have to take those numbers with a bit of salt. Our defense is one of the best in the league in both yardage (313) and points allowed (17), so we will likely be in a position to win every game. The question will be, can our offense manage to score more than our current 26th ranked scoring offense at 20 points per game (it would be much worse than that if not for the one outlier against Jax).
If this defense can keep pace with where it is now and the offense can somehow raise that to a middle of the pack 24ppg, we will have a great shot at 10 wins.
Of course opponents factor in but you also can only play the people on your schedule. It's not like they went up against those offenses and let them score a ton of points on us or march up and down the field. The defense did what it was supposed to and held them down. We held Carolina to 16 points. Baltimore just gave up 36 to them, but I do not see anyone questioning if their defense is really any good. I've seen more to make me believe that our defense is the real deal than I have to believe otherwise. The defense is one of the best in the league in those stats, but not one of the best in the league overall, because it doesn't generate takeaways. Swing games are at ATL and home vs Phil. Can the boys make it to 10-6?
THISI haven't seen anything in 7 games that would lead me to believe this a ten win team, all due respect to the new WR.
NopeCan the boys make it to 10-6?
The interplay between offense and defense in terms of the field position battle is not a "spin", it's pretty basic football. Our offense's starting field position is among the worst in the league; that's a direct consequence of the defense not generating takeaways.Of course opponents factor in but you also can only play the people on your schedule. Our defense being a factor in holding our offense from scoring points is a spin I haven't heard yet. The defense is doing it's job. The offense has been stuck in the mud more often than not because the offense isn't very good. Period.
