Heres whats going to happen. IF Jerrah tries to go after mick shannahan, I'm sure shannahan is going to say that he will accept ONLY if T.O. is not part of the package; i.e. its either him or me.

If thats the case, we definitely should keep austin.

Even if shannahan doesn't come to the cowboys it owuld be stupid in my opinion if we didn't keep austin; I mean he has been our baby that we developed to this point why shouldn't we reap the benefits of the work?

Shannahan actually wanted TO on the Broncos, I doubt that has changed

considering Shanahan wanted TO when we got him, I doubt your scenario is accurate.

As a Titan fan I'm really interested in Miles Austin in the offseason. I think he was really starting to emerge and his going to be a restricted free agent. With the contract extensions given to Crayton and Roy Williams there is no way Austin gets more than the minimum tender, right?

I also don't think there is anyway Jerry lets TO go.
Doesn't matter. We have time to progress through 1 maybe 2 reads every pass attempt.

I like Austin, but we certainly don't need four WRs. Our base set should be two TEs with Witten and Bennett. Throw in a RB or two and we should usually only have two WRs on the field. I don't know why we gave up two high picks for Williams, unless we're letting another wideout go.

You know, some times I think Mr. Jones is flying by the seat of his pants.

Given that there might be over 100 Juniors declaring, I'd take a second round pick for Miles.

Yes he does, unless he's at the zoo.

Felix Jones is the return man. and how is Austin gonna get on the field with the other 3 WRs?

I see no way Dallas gives Austin anything more than the minimum tender.

Those Jrs will need just as much time, if not more time than what Miles needed. Why let Miles go when he's finally coming into his own? Go Away!

I guess the Cowboys could tender Austin with a 2nd rounder tender, which will costs around 1.7 mill or so, but to me that makes the Roy Williams trade and the Crayton extension look even worse.

If Austin was is so vaulable that the Cowboys are willing to use close to 2 mill in cap space on a guy that will rarely even get on the field why did Jones give up so much in terms of picks and money to Roy Williams? Why even trade for Williams?

Jones had to think at the time Crayton was extended and Williams was signed that Austin was going to be let go or tendered low.

Assuming Austin is kept how much would he really even be used assuming everyone is healthy?

This pretty straightforward. They wanted Roy as a future 1 and a current 2. 2 million isn't squat in terms of a cap hit. When they signed crayton they didn't know if austin would develop. Why would they even consider letting him go now that they know crayton is more of a 3rd than a 2nd? Crayton and Austin both will be dirt cheap. You're just blind to the obvious cause you want to continue hoping we don't sign him.

If Austin stays healthy he's the #3 over Crayton next year. After that either the #3 or #2 depending on TO.

I said it was possible they give Austin the higher tender. Its not like Austin is some probowler, I just thought he might be ok for a non draft pick tender on a WR rich team.

It just makes Jones look even worse signing Crayton.

Like someone posted Jones doesn't ever seem to have a plan and flies by the seat of his pants.

Its not as if Austin hadn't been on the team for a few years when Crayton was signed and Williams was traded for.

Austin was a project receiver 4th on the depth chart when he resigned crayton.

I don't know that the Cowboys ever have or ever will lose a RFA who has shown anything ever.

Jerry would have no issue at all paying over a million for a guy who actually gets on the field. That's chump change.

He probably gets a first round tender.

Austin is a 4th WR and special teamer worst case and he is a good enough special teamer to play on coverage and return units. He is a gunner on the punt team.

It doesn't make Jerry look dumb at all. 2 million is nothing against this cap. By signing guys you have their rights but it isn't like they can't be traded later.

The Roy Williams trade looks bad because he came over injured and really couldn't play. But time will tell with him. If that trade is a flop it will have nothing to do with Miles Austin or 2 million dollars and everything to do with RW not delivering on expectations to develop into the lead WR here as T.O. exits in 2/3 years.

I dont think tendering Austin with a high tender would make him look bad, but about 10-15 other things sure have lately

There is no such thing as a 2nd round tender.

He either gets the minimum tender, a 1st round tender or the highest tender for a 1st and 3rd.

We have plenty of cap room and almost all of our core contracts are locked in.

Plus Stephen Jones has been very aggressive with tenders, so I would bet they tender him that first round tender.

So if you want to give up that first round pick, we would be happy to give you Miles Austin.
