Can the Joneses resist signing Hardy to a long term deal

I am for resigning Hardy.
I just have zero confidence that we will be able to find a pass rusher if we let Hardy walk.
Randy Gregory? This guy was too light before he got hurt and disappeared. Not a sure thing.
Lawrence? Zero reason to believe he should be a starting DE in this league.

We know this team values pass rush and we know they have not been successful drafting pass rushers since Demarcus Ware.

I'd rather pay Hardy since he has proven production over a several year period than have my hopes in Gregory or Lawrence.

And I doubt we're tempted to give him a long term deal. Apparently the guy can't even act right in his one year back in the league to repair his reputation before he hits FA again.

I believe in Gregory. I still think Lawrence can improve. I hate to lose a pass rusher but this guy is just nuts and probably not long for the league.

Some of the best pass rushers are crazy...

Let him test the market at the very least. I doubt he gets many offers...

This is exactly what I'm doing at this point. Given the number of issues this season already - one in which he was supposed to be working towards repairing his image - I'm done talking about any sort of extension until after the season.

I would treat this just like the team treated the Rolando McClain situation this past offseason. Let him hit the market and get a dose of the reality of his situation. If he gets big money elsewhere? Fine, let him be someone else's issue. If he doesn't, sign him to a reasonable deal with protections for the team against future problems.

The worst of this saga is likely behind us. If he has another domestic violence dispute, he is an easy cut but there are no more pictures or news to be released. It is just up to him to earn a spot at this point. He has still been our best defensive linemen. He doesn't get sacks every week but he has got pressure in the clutch.

The initial (and anticipated) PR hit that the CBS, NBC, FOX, ESPN, and especially the NFL have put out didn't push the Jones' to cut or bench Hardy. After surviving the bombshell of that Philly hack reporter releasing photos, from here on out there is going to be less controversy involving Hardy (ulness he opens his mouth). So...it's going to be purely on how he grades out the rest of the season. If he doesn't close out the season looking like his former self, he is either gone in the offseason or stays on a much cheaper deal.

I think Jerry and Stephen will do exactly as they did with Mcclain. Let him test the water knowing not many will bite, and when someone does bite they'll guage how much they're willing to pay from there

As long as it's structured in our favor, or has some out clauses, I'm ok with a long term deal.
Gregory and Lawrence have potential, but have yet to show they are quality NFL DEs.
Mincey is getting up there in age, and is a solid player.
Irving seems like a hybrid 3 tech/DE.

Hardy has not been invisible even the last few games. It's not his fault nobody else is cleaning up, while he's putting pressure on the QB. His motor is also endless, while the scrubs on our squad just like to give up when stone-walled, particukarly Hayden who is blown off the ball and pushed back everytime he's next to guys like Hardy.

When he is off the field our defensive line is even more pathetic.

More than ninety percent of this board kept defending Ware for disappeared by at the end of the season and he kept disappearing.

It's gonna be like re-upping TO ...thinking he would behave. Not!

Well he would get a TO like deal if he signed long term. If I remember correctly, we paid TO as an elite deal but it was a series of one year deals so we didn't receive a cap hit when we parted ways. Something like a 4 year, 40 million deal (example) but it is really like a series of 1 year, 10 million deals. That is likely to be the contract Hardy will receive if he even signs anywhere for longer than one year.

He hasn't been dominant but the play that almost won the game against Tampa Bay (the Winston fumble that was reversed) was caused due to a Hardy pressure if I recall.

He also came alive in the fourth quarter of the Dolphins win. I would take 4th quarter plays any day.

Now doubt, but we are expecting him to be a Romo on defense. That spells desperation.

Hardy, to be dominant, needs help as well and scheming to maximize his talent. That being said he hasn't disappeared at all NOR is he NOT a
force right now.

And I believe he's playing with some injuries.

Ware was getting blown out of the play by the latter half of his career by TEs.

I should take back saying Hardy is the only player getting consistent pressure, Crawford is doing far better than a lot of here think he is. I still think Crawford could has the ability to have a monster year here soon and we'll be looking back on his deal as a great one. As of right now, the deal is perfect for his production.

Sign Hardy and let Lawrence/Gregory battle it out next year while finding a way to get Irving into the starting lineup.

Well, so has every player on the D-line who's been here in forever, even dominant ones that we don't draft like Hardy. I think it's high time to recognize that perhaps it's no longer the players.

I get what you are saying, and I agree the players aren't all to blame. But defensively at least, the Cowboys have not been a force despite employing Zimmer, Phillips, and Marinelli. All 3 guys are highly respected, all 3 have enjoyed prior success, and at least 2 of them are again enjoying defensive success.

Surely these guys weren't here and just forgot how to coach. I wonder what the problem could be...thinking...what is the common denominator to the Cowboys not having success all these years...I just can't put my finger on it...
